energeticsheep 95 Posted May 5, 2014 Ever since I bought DayZ Standalone I've been having problems with my FPS, however recently it has got much much worse. My computer also occasionally crashes for whatever reason, it becomes completely unresponsive which is obvious. Before it is suggested, I've gone into my DayZ.cfg and changed around some settings like 'MaxFramesAhead' and what not, and although I've noticed a small difference in FPS, my computer still crashes. I've even tried the smaller things such as Razer Game Booster, but that doesn't seem to make much difference other than give me an FPS Counter in the top left corner (which is what I'm using to find average frames). Over a set time of 10 seconds, I believe I've worked out the average FPS of my computer IN THE MAIN MENU, This is as follows;41 ,, 43 ,, 41 ,, 42 ,, 43 ,, 37 ,, 43 ,, 41 ,, 42 ,, 39 Adding these up makes 412Dividing that by 10 gives you 41.2, so I know my average FPS is 41. Now, that seems all fine and dandy, however whilst in-game and strolling along wide open fields (a stupid idea in DayZ, I know) I get around 23 FPS which drops every so often. In addition, within cities I get around 8 to 11 frames (perhaps even less or a bit more)Along with this, also have another problem which causes my game to freeze (but not crash) and recover around four seconds after (either causing me to jolt forward into where my actual position would be if I didn't freeze, or just making me continue from where my game froze). As you can imagine, this looks as if I am desyncing massively on my other friends' screens. This occurrence can vary, however it usually happens every minute or perhaps even less. SFRGaming 718 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Bunch of technical stuph. Oh my.....who on earth convinced you to go with a top-of-the-line 1920x1080p gaming GPU and pair it with a REALLY bad Dual-Core? That's your problem right there. Run a GPU diagnostic and show us the load % during gameplay. Test it in a different vareity of games such as BF4, DayZ, Skyrim, etc.. Edited May 5, 2014 by Shadow134
energeticsheep 95 Posted May 5, 2014 I've already done this. It's around 78%, which I don't find suspicious, to be honest.
Estevacio 62 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Hi there Mate you said "this looks as if I am desyncing massively on my other friends' screens..:" it is strange, (i am no expert) but if it was just your hardware, i believe it would not show anything in another players pc, only you would see it?? then again, it might be such a serious hardware hangup that the connection itself might freeze?? do you have any programs updating in the back??(one example is Smite's launcher ,it is by default to always run updates on the background, and like Steam when it is updating brings my PC to its knees) just some ideas man, not sure if usefull Also, on other games, is the PC stable?? terminal_boy 860 Posted May 5, 2014 The problem with turning all the details and qualities down to Low or Disabled is that the game actually adds load to your CPU.As the SA isn't very kind to the faster 4 core AMD CPUs, I'm not surprised that it's being mean to your old, slow dual core.May I just ask why you're using a GTX 770 to play at 800 x 600 resolution?
energeticsheep 95 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) @ EstecvacioBasically it shows as if I am running normally on my friends' screen (even though for me I am frozen) and then my game will unfreeze and I will continue from where I froze and my desynced body would jolt back into position. @ Terminal BoyI understand. The reason I'm running it at 800x600 is because I'm playing in windowed mode.Feel free to suggest a resolution to play in, I'm confused as to the entire video options since I have a generally bad computer, so I just stick with the lowest settings. But what do you recommend? Edited May 5, 2014 by EnergeticSheep
Amachie 3 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Are you seriously trying to play with 2GB of RAM? :) Edited May 5, 2014 by Amachie
kugane 4 Posted May 5, 2014 it's your baby core, not enough power & you need more ram2gb is to small, win7 use alone min. 1.2gb, 800mb for dayz & other programs is to small i use a i7 4770k with 780ti, 32gb ram with dayz in ramdisk, 60fps+ ... but a good xeon e3 is better & cost ~160-200€
taco241 393 Posted May 5, 2014 Seems like a new GPU in an old system. It's like stuffing a new 500HP big block crate engine in your mom's Kia Rio. The cheap fix:-Wipe your computer, and install only the essential drivers and updates. Disable any scans, auto-updates, etc.- Upgrade to 8GB RAM ($80)- Add another case fan ($10) and try and squeeze a little more juice out of your CPU by overclocking (do not get greedy) The budget fix (this will keep you gaming for likely about 2 years):You'll need to swap out your motherboard ($60)Get more RAM (at least 8 GB( ($80)New Intel Quad-core CPU ($215) Hope this helps. Try the cheap fix, and then work your way up.
energeticsheep 95 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I'm actually going to be getting some new hardware for my PC in July, but I could squeeze more FPS out of my game and minus the crashes. I am however going to be sticking with the GTX 770, as I believe that has maximum potential. Now that you're all aware, I'm looking for some advice on my new computer, my only question is "Is it good enough?" New PC SpecsGPU - Nvida GeForce GTX 770CPU - AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor (£131.48 >> $221.81)Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£116.99 >> $197.36)Memory - Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£69.71 >> $117.60)Storage - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£52.79 >> $89.06)TOTAL - £370.97 or $625.83 As you can see, next to the specs I have put prices and underneath I have put the total. WilliamShaye 0 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) You can try - 1) Doing a defrag on your hard drive, if it is mechanical2) Shut down every possible background process such as anti virus software -- edit -- felt bad about belittling the people above -- edit -- Your mobo only supports DDR3 memory with a AM3, AM3+ processors, which the 4200+ is AM2 :( so your memory is running at DDR2 specs regardless. Can you go to Start > Run > type in dxdiag, run it > when it finishes click Save All Information at the bottom and post the results :) Edited May 5, 2014 by WilliamShaye

WilliamShaye 0 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Lets try and get some small gains by freeing some memory, will reduce those hangs a little Apart from the obvious such as updating your audio and graphic drivers http://www.asrock.com/mb/NVIDIA/N68C-GS%20FX/?cat=Download&os=XP ( audio 96.36mb, may reduce CPU load for your audio device by a small margin ) Definitely do a defrag over night, Run windows in 800 x 600 native when playing, instead of 1027 x 768If you can, Run full screenEnd all unnecessary processes in Task Manager, this includes any nVidia softwareDelete all unused or unnecessary icons off of your desktopIf your task bar is opaque, right click on the desktop > personalise, switch your theme to windows basic. This will disable windows aero.If your wallpapers are on rotate, disable itIf you have not got any anti virus software installed, you do. It's called Windows Defender, it can be found in Control Panel, un tick automatically scan my computer edit - Within DayZ, go to audio settings and reduce sound sources to 16 It is about all you can do for now, rather, what I can think of, without going into the bios and messing with the clock rates. When July comes by mate try the overclockers website, system and bundles offer, then go to ebay, find the deal. As of now, you can get an i5 4670K bundle in that price range :) not too bad indeed Edited May 5, 2014 by WilliamShaye
Amachie 3 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) I'm actually going to be getting some new hardware for my PC in July, but I could squeeze more FPS out of my game and minus the crashes. Opinions?Yes, it is good enough. However, i´d recommend that you buy some SSD also (60GB version is enough), where you can run OS and DayZ. 2TB HDD as primary can make things slow (even if you do partitions). But right now, with your old CPU and 2GB of RAM (which is DDR2?) you can´t play DayZ without issues. BTW, why AMD platform? If you are going to upgrade CPU and MB, then Intel is bit better at gaming, AMD is better at video editing, etc. (i have Crosshair Formula V as MB, FX-8350 as CPU and 10GB Kingston DDR3 and every game i have crappier performance than my Intel-fanboy friends) Edited May 6, 2014 by Amachie
DMentMan 707 Posted May 6, 2014 2 GB ram? well, 4 is minimum, and 8 is recommended. so thats a problem.

Yes, low-med settings, 50-60 fps in forest and 20-30fps in towns. Maybe bit more, afterall you have 2gen newer GPU than i have. *you forgot to write in italic Edited May 6, 2014 by Amachie

Personally I would go with an i5, which would perform a bit better, over that FX-8350 and 2x4Gb RAM instead of the 1x8Gb, but it's a vast improvement over your current system.
