Capo 323 Posted April 28, 2014 Hey everyone! While playing earlier today I realized that the PU scope for the mosin nagant and SKS is missing a critical feature, the ability to change view to under the scope. I'm sure some of you would have noticed how high the PU scope sits on the rifle, this is a design feature which allows the soldier to look under the scope and down the iron sights if necessary, and in relatively close quarters this would be the ideal thing to do, I don't know about you guys, but I find targets harder to hit when they're huge and their movements are exaggerated by zoom and close range. Anyway, the general idea is to allow us to look under the PU scope rather than have to take it off and store it every time we feel it's a hindrance rather than a help. Thoughts? I think it would be a nice milsim feature and also really make the PU scope feel less awkward.
modis002 78 Posted April 28, 2014 i agree. and its funny because today i told my friend about this feature and how cool it would be if they would add it :D

MetapoliC 263 Posted April 28, 2014 Yeah I hope devs are looking to add that. Pretty much a needed thing in this game
OrLoK 16185 Posted April 28, 2014 Hello there Here's an old rough vid of mine (I really need to redo it, ta for the reminder), but it shows the 2 scope option in action. I cant imagine it'll be hard to implement, its just probably not "done" yet. Rgds LoK
TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted April 28, 2014 Yes, Acog needs this too...just in a different way.
preacherlr 614 Posted April 28, 2014 Yes, Acog needs this too...just in a different way. Most acogs have either Irons or a red dot on top of them. There's your different way. ;)
eskamick 20 Posted April 28, 2014 Ive never used a PU scope before but trying to use the top mounted sights on an acog (either rds or irons) is a pain in the ass and not too fast.
Jack456Z 5 Posted April 28, 2014 Even Red orchestra 2/rising storm has this feature and it is rather useful. They also don't black out the rest on the screen when you look down the scope(which is realistic because nobody likes having a black eye) but this does tank your fps for some players.

RO2 (great game) and being trapped in an ATC was what inspired the suggestion. The way scopes are done in RO2 is superb, 3D scopes all the way.
Sike (DayZ) 8 Posted March 13, 2015 Bump. And just to prove it can be done in this engine.
gibonez 3633 Posted March 13, 2015 Let's also not forget that the elevation adjustments only go up to 300m in game when in real life its 1300. Lastly the sks should not mount the pu and even if mounted the elevation adjustments would not work for the 7.62x39 round coming out of the sks.

The Mosin apparently doesn't need a mount either for the PU. As for the adjustments it is pretty unrealistic but so is attaching a scope and having it zeroed right away. Some people can actually match irons with the scope pretty well and with the dual sight pictures on side mounted rifles makes it pretty easy. I would say zeroing it perfectly to 300 meters is a bit of a stretch, but hey so is a zombie apocalypse!
gibonez 3633 Posted March 14, 2015 SKS can mount a PU, you need a special mount but it is doable. If that were the criteria for mounting things then yea I can mount an SKS on a broom too with a special mount. My point is would it really make sense to find these highly specialized mounts in Eastern European country sides ? Having the AKM also have a side rail makes little sense since the most common ak models did not have side rails and it was not only until the akm-n that side rails were added and those were issued in crazy low numbers. E-Z 25 Posted March 14, 2015 this is standard in Arma 3.

It is fairly unlikely you will find a scope without a gun attached to it unless its still in a box. Also there are still some old soviet era PU scopes floating around the optics market. Some of the chernarusians could have acquired a few if some of them just weren't hand-me-downs from their elders who fought in the great war. As for AKM with a side rail, yes that is pretty odd. AKMs have been phased out of most militaries and when they were popular they all used ironsights but a side rail on a military AK74 or 101 is pretty believable. You also have to remember this part of Eastern Europe saw a large military reaction to the infection so some quality and surplus military equipment would be laying around.
