What you can't see, shouldn't be rendered

Recommended Posts

THIS is a thing that almost every game with a big open world has. Renders everything except what you can NOT see. This should be in the Standalone, like, really. If it has it already then, man, the optimization is really bad, if not, this could solve lodsa problems.

You may want to check your config files. There are settings to adjust the rendering of object on distance

This is rendering DISTANCE, not rendering WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT.

No, I'm talking about rendering the object at distance. These settings are in the config files.

But i'm not talking about rendering the objects at distance, i'm talking about rendering only the things that you currently see on your screen.

I don't get something.... I thought we already only render what you see... I mean.. that's what your commputer screen do, right?

I really hope they can get this game really optimized because at the moment the player render distance is absolutely unacceptable.

I wan't towns and players to render out past a mile.

What the OP is talking about is from your character's POV, it should only render what you can see from your eyes. So if you're standing in a window looking out, it will only show the angle you can see out the window and then black either side of it with nothing.

The other, easier fix for this is to play if first person mode.

Its called occlusion and the developers already know.

More than know. Occlusion culling is already implemented into the game client according to Rocket. I suspect that the RV engine isn't that aggressive with it, though.

The loot is still being rendered though. On top of this the game is running in DirectX9 atm so when they change to 11 which most of our cards are designed for we may run a lot smoother.

Lol.  You guys are comical.  They cant even fix the unresponsive hot keys but you are discussing how they might "optimize the rendering of objects based on player scope and proximity".    Give me a fucking break.    That sounds 1000 times more complicated than making my hot key respond or making inventory slots not be unusable.

Why can't they fix it?

Not sure, but I guess the purse strings holders are not purchasing enough talent and resources.  I feel bad for the developers, unless they got a fair share of the 40 million.... In that case, the joke is on us.

Well im confused...I read OP as Should only render things we see as....well things we see. Meaning its not rendering vybor when you are in electro and so on.

I read it has having nothing to do with distance or a 3pp "fix" lol

As for that im sure it already happens to a degree, we do have gradually less detailed lods. The engine may very well be rendering the low lods for everything all the time, as in arma you could have view distance to 10k without editing configs. So maybe its not required in a game where 3k view distance is max :)

The devs have mentioned the occlusion in the past so hopefully they on it :)

Aah so now we know that you aren't privy to any information so until you are, will you PLEASE stop spouting your mouth off like you know it all?

Since you just stated you know nothing about the game, how do you know the game progress is slow? Compared to what and what issues are the dev team trying to resolve?

What i am pretty sure op means..basically occlusion culling as simple as i can put it in a pic.

34fcisw.jpg

Occluded objects are culled and therefore not rendering which in turn reduces the work load on your gpu. There is a lot more to it that though. Obviously the devs know a lot more about this than we do and i am sure they have mentioned it several times. Cleary they cannot just slip in some code like OCCLUSION MASTER FIX FOR GAME = WORK MUCH BETTER YAY DAYZ COMPLETE.

It's late and i couldn't be bothered finding links where the devs and specifically Rocket has talked about this :)

Object culling. Read the dev blog. They have talked about this multiple times.

Hello there

Even I know that this is being addressed. In fact the whole rendering system is being separated from the game (or they are looking at the possibilities of doing so.)

Known issue, being addressed.

It can still render things you don't see. If it doesn't render those, it often results in pop-in objects.

Better FPS provides smoother controls, along with smoother gameplay.
