500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

Recommended Posts

That's all your fault. Get a girlfriend who games, problem solved.

Seriously though, hate when people makes post like this. "I have four kids, a wife who hates me, and I work two full time jobs. And you expect me to wait 500 seconds to switch servers? I'M ANGRY AT YOU BECAUSE I MADE THE TERRIBLE DECISION TO NOT HAVE ANY FREE TIME!!!!!!!!"

This is dumbest fuckin comment ever. "Get a girlfriend who games, problem solved". Really? Really?! what are you, 13 yo?

Only thing that dictates how game mechanics works is BIS, not you, get it into your narrow mind.

Yep, but they have to sell games and make money. What the community, press and the majority of players think is much more important than you may think.

I just lost connection on a server and I'm being punished for that and must wait 250 seconds.

I don't get it.

I just registered to strongly agree with the first (and probably many other posters).

To make me wait 10 minutes of my lifetime in a videogame i play for fun is one of the most tedious things i have ever seen. plus, im not the hopper-kind of guy. in 9/10 times, i had technical difficulties wich made me restart the game. nice job, wait 10 minutes for serverhopping, a$$hole - thanks a lot.

yesterday was fun too. playing 40 minutes, waited for 25. good ratio? no. complete utter bull$hit.

ah, btw. im writing this as my 580 second conter counts down to 0. (i was kicked off a server.)

$0.02

This new timer is bullshit devs.

SOME of US have LIVES, Girlfriends, Jobs, Gardens, A house, SHIT TO DO.  So if we're playing and get a "Lost Session"  or join a server then get kicked by some asshole abusing the server owner rules; WE the normal players get slapped on the wrist for it?

So you think we want to wait 500 seconds.  Yeah, right...  Fix other MORE important things other than screwing with wait timers.  Server hoppers aren't THAT big of an issue, my god.

Who made this 500 second timer? I'd like to slap him across the face for wasting my time.

Community;

A. If you're complaining it fixes ghosting (maybe you fucking camp too much? think about that one :P)

B. If you're complaining it fixes server hopping.  (people are going to get gear regardless, A noob with a weapon is STILL A NOOB.)

This game is going to be in ALPHA for how much fucking longer? And you're incorporating these timers now? WHY, WHY, WHY

THANKS for literally wasting HOURS of my accumulated time in the next year + Should I decide to keep playing the whole time.

End Rant

You will think they are a waste of time until you run into a squad of 3 people and two of them log in behind you because they ghosted over in another server and shoot you ass. Enjoy your 30 minute run.

And again.. game keeps crashing... new patch gg and goodbye DayZ.

Got hit 4 times by a zombie and almost died, i couldnt even pull my weapon (cause guess what BUG), after i waited 500 seconds. At least i survived.

I thought they were testing these patches on experimental? Took ages to get out this patch which bugs even more. I got graphics bug and so on, and yet no improvement of night time or anything. Just new features.

Other alphas try to satisfy their users at least and this was a waste of money.

Maybe you should L2P and not camp for so long. I have never experienced this.

There shouldn't be a timer at this stage of the development. It's just an ALPHA. Server hopping and stuff should be the last ting the developers shoud spend time on now. There are far more important stuff to focus on. People complaining about server hopping can stfu.

One of the issues is that swapping servers causes a serious performance issue for the central server not to mention the game server itself. This involves a real cost, both financial and in overall performance, of the entire network. We have many changes planned for this system, but as it stands now, switching servers places a great strain on the entire architecture so we must do absolutely everything we can to discourage it, and when it does occur, give the server maximum time to process logins at it's own convenience.

On a game server level, the single biggest performance hit to a server is when a new player joins. Depending on the amount of inventory, a new player can have a performance impact orders of magnitude more than a new character for an existing server player. On the central server level, the most demanding thing the central server does is to authenticate and load a player on a server.

It does not matter if the difference between your login is 10 seconds, or 10 hours - each login results in a strain on the system. The main issue with 100 person servers is not the server operating, but it's inability to deal with the constant flow of connections + disconnections. A 100 person server with no connections and disconnections is quite stable and performance is acceptable.

While we are investigating other solutions, such as improving performance and queuing systems - these take time and in order to do this we have to solve some other issues first

There are bugs associated with it, and they're being fixed.
For example no timeout should be submitted for server restart, if that is happening, it is a bug.
Please remember that this is an active area of development, done at a very high level on our central server architecture. The queuing system is not something done by the game itself or even the game server. Therefore some care is required and we cannot instantly make changes.
I've been discussing the issue with our central server architecture team, I currently have no timeframe on when a change will occur. Any changes to this will delay the current tasks they are working on, such as persistent object and respawning loot.

As a workaround, I am looking at how we can lower the penalty maximum down to 3 or 5 minutes, until we can sort out some of the remaining bugs.
The current situation is a mix of new changes have unintended consequences, as we had to do something to limit the amount of people changing servers.
This change has to be made on the central server so I am not sure how easy it will be (if it is even possible) for us to do outside normal maintenance. I'd like if we could do this for this weekend., but I can't promise anything other than Brian is trying to find out what our options are.

I mentioned the same thing a few pages ago, but they declared the reason behind it is due to technical reasons: loading characters and inventory onto a server apparently causes a lot of stress and resources on the server. They didn't say anything about server hoppers.

Adding long queue timers outside of technical reasons is just pure dumb, want to test and help us develop this game? Please hold 10 minutes....

(However there are people crying tremendously about server hoppers, they are at that hardcore level already in an alpha game, I don't why though, when these server hoppers die they give everyone else all that loot, so they spread the joy).

If they fix this so you do not get a timer if you rejoin the same server would you be ok with this ?

The timer should absolutely stay if you join a new server, but if you join the same server it should be gone.

Then ghosting would come back. Timer was put in first and foremost to combat combat logging. Hoppers were secondary.

How can you ghost if you join the same server ? your position would not change.

No man is more miserable than the one who gets the stink eye from his wife every time he wants to partake in his favorite hobby. Its 2014 and 50% of all gamer's are women, so you'd be an idiot to go long term with someone who you don't share common interests with.

Or maybe you're one of those guys who can't talk to women, doesn't have a lot of options and is just holding on whatever girl showed a vague amount of interest in him. That's okay, too.

It's actually 30% maximum if you include casual games like WoW.

Yes, it can be any number you fancy if you arbitrarily exclude games at your own discretion, you are correct.

Hey here's a cool idea for you:

There are 1.9 million players - let's say each of them just once has to wait for 8 minutes (for whatever reason)

Just once

That's 253,333 hours

hahahahahahahahaa .... that's 29 years dudes... hahahahahahhah

Oh shut up...

A lot of men enjoy the fact their gaming time is "Their time" with their buds they don't want to spend every moment of their life with their g/f, or wife alone. Balance is the word here, and Balance is the Casual gamer, not hardcore.
