Do you want pooping in this game?

To poop or not to poop

  1. 1. Do you want pooping?

This argument could last forever. Both sides are claiming that the other has no valid reasons for being for or against it. Im amazed an argument about taking shits has lasted this long.

There is realism, then there's too far. Pooping in a video game it too far.

Stop thinking of dayz as a video game and your problem is solved.

For all of those in support, please make a list (bulleted, whatever) that describes the rationale you have behind supporting such an activity. It would make things far clearer than "REALISM AND STUFFS"

No need for a detailed list but I will run down on the main reason why I think it will be good for the game not this particular feature alone but as a whole package of features that are similar.

The entire goal of the game is to immerse the player into this world and to believe they are looting areas in order to survive.

Pooping is just another device used by the devs to hammer in the fact that this is not just another shooter, your player has very real wants and needs.

It needs food for energy, it needs water to stay hydrated, it needs rest hopefully in the future for over excertion , it needs to defecate .

all of these things add to the game by ensuring you know that your player is healthy, they are all combined tiny additions that immerse the player more and seperate the game from other shooters.

without such features Dayz is simply COD at the coast with occasional eating and perma death.

SPAWN - Find gun - run to coast - PVP - die

Repeat.

Hello there

There are many things we dont "need" that does not invalidate them.

Defecation, if you take a minute to think about it could add a whole range of mechanics and situations to the game.

Rgds

LoK

There are a lot of things we don't "need" that you can implement that could add a whole range of mechanics and situations to the game. However that does not validate that these things are a good idea by any means, such as defecation.

I am certain a lot of the people who think beyond just flinging poo at each other and defecating on captured or dead players have thought about the addition of this in detail; disease and tracking are the first two that come to mind. However I am certain that there are other ways to implement for example disease and tracking without the inclusion of defecation, without wasting additional dev resources and without wasting additional server resources, the latter of which is already a problem without loot spawns and a large zombie population.

Do tell...

It will force you to pay more attention to your char's well being, something that is crucial for survival games, and isn't very present atm.

Edit: Cooked meals should give you a faster crapping animation  And a whole bag of uncooked rice should double it :D

This.

Here's the thing.  You won't even have to worry about it if you keep you character in good health assuming it's not being added as a bodily function that you actually need to do.

If you get dysentery you shit yourself - it is one of the ways the disease spreads as it enters the waterways.

Realism card again, I am sure I have told you this before but that doesn't justify anything if it doesn't add to the game or if that addition can be done in better ways. By your logic they should add everything a human body needs to stay healthy, that is neither possible nor viable and will just be tedious.

It will force you to pay more attention to your char's well being...

There are better and easier ways to accomplish this without adding defecation.

What's left? Temperature, diseases and dampness? Random traits like diabetes or something that require constant medical supplies?

Why not take that extra step for defecation? Is it that disgusting?

Everybody poops.

Have I said anything about it being disgusting?

Please do tell what will it add to the game that cannot be accomplished in other easier ways, and won't be just adding pooping?

- Disease: that can be achieved with a large variety of things from food to drink to human or npc interaction

- Tracking: they already had that in for a little while where empty cans of food or drink would be left on the ground but I guess they removed it due to server load

- Health concerns: There are way more vital things that could need to be maintained like stamina, e.g. your energy status actually effecting your actions and the need for rest perhaps?

I fully expect a Poop Pyramid in the centre of Cherno within an hour of this being added.

At least I know what those log cabins will be useful for now...

They can add all those  + pooping and the helath related risks of not pooping or improper sanitation.

As I said, health risks can be added in a numerous of ways without going too over the top and without wasting resources both development wise and server load wise. So it comes down to improper sanitation? Really? That is your argument?

No my argument is #1 the poop is done, the animation is done so what little dev time is wasted in adding this is negligible.

This is a potential mechanic that can add depth and when combined with other survival mechanics could really work to make it a challenge to keep your player healthy.

Outright downplaying something without seeing how it is incorporated is not the way to go.

Reminds me of all the mad people back when wind was confirmed for shooting. All the people were mad cause it made the game harder and because it added a layer of depth to a certain mechanic.

Yea something's gonna come out hard alright :P

I am downplaying it because everything that they want to achieve with it can be achieved in better ways and still give you just as much of a challenge. This isn't whether the game will be harder or easier, no need to take that direction in this discussion.

edit: Also you keep talking about this adding depth yet fail to mention what it is. What is it that no other feature can add to the game that pooping can? Well besides improper sanitation which is rather ludicrious

My stance still stands that we need to give this a shot first see if it adds to the game and the survival mechanics.

If it does keep it in if it doesn't remove it but at the same time I am sure they will think of other survival stuff to add.

I am not trying to convince you or anyone else but rather trying to understand if it is me who is missing something here.

Well, you see, people are getting this post-apocolyptic zombie survival game confused with a tamagotchi pet

Will we also have to carry toilet paper? What if I use a surface that gives me a rash? They should add baby powder for those with sensitive skin

Think about it. You can't just take a dump in the middle of the street. What are you going to wipe your butt with? They should make different quality wipables that will attract less zombies if the good ones are used. Quiltin Northern > Tree brush > note book paper. If you use the quiltin northern your behind will be nice and clean and no zombies will be attracted. But if you use note book paper you will miss some feces and have some crotch rot that attracts a horde.

Please don't use that argument. As you and others have been told numerous times: They are actually capable of working at several things at the same time, because contrary to very popular opinion, it is not one person developing the game, but a whole team, with smaller teams working on different things.

Using the "fix the zombies first" or "bring us vehicles first" argument is like invoking Godwins Law, you automatically lose the discussion.

(Also, what is with all those non sequitur gifs you spam your posts with?)

Fortunately, there are better ways to get people to play the game as you want

Thats the single biggest problem i have with 90% of decisions being made. Devs seem to really be intent on making pople play it "thier way" rather then going "heres the tools best of luck yo ya in the wilderness"

On topic add it. They already force us to play field medic simulator everytime we log in, might as well take dumps too.

Field medic simulator ?

Hmm the medical system is quite slim at the moment and it will probably and should get more complex.

It is complete bullcrap that you can heal a gunshot wound to the neck or heart with a simple rag.
