What should be the civilian 5.56 rifle ?

Recommended Posts

I don't want to tell you how I know that because I'll probably get wrecked by BIS but there's an Mp5 planned for future versions and it's not that military since it's aim is pretty shit.

The MP5K is pretty common knowledge now. Anyone who looks into the weapon model files after the update has surely seen it by this point.

Regardless, it has nothing to do with 5.56x45mm, civilians, or rifles. It's a 9x19mm, police/military issue, submachine-gun.

I'd prefer to see an AR-15 honestly to help compete with people toting M4s.

While it would be good and I like the idea of a civilian rifle sharing commonality with some of the m4s parts and accessories I think the ar15 variant would be too close to an m4 to validate it.

If we had to get a weapon that was close to the ar15 or shared its parts I would prefer the mossberg mvp with its ability to share magazines.

You know that looking into the game files is against licensing? Even if you do poke inside them don't just shout it out here...

Yeah well part of why I'm for it isn't just the interchangeability but it also means the models already exist along with all the functionality just one major difference the selection of fire needs to be between a three round burst and single shot.  Not to mention then people have to wonder... is he carrying a full auto M4 or just a single shot/burst AR-15.

The Vepr super looks very nice, i could see it looking awesome in game. They definitely need to add another 5.56 calibre rifle as M4's only spawn at heli crash sites in  0.45 making them pretty rare.

Give me a 5.56 weapon that can achieve realistic 2000m headshots!!!!!

DISPERSIONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Last night I killed some guy sniping NEAF and snatched his M4 among other things.. I tested it, recorded it and discarded it. The performance was truly disgusting. The range is 53m +/- 2m.

^Yeah there should have only been one bullet hole because every round would land in the same place right bro?

I should not carefully place my sights on a zombie's nose and have my bullet hit his stomach at a range of 50 meters, if I'm lucky that is. This doesn't happen with any other rifle in the game, neither the Ruger, SKS, Mosin, Blaser, etc.

Maybe the game engine factors your fear into the shot, because at 50m you'd be shitting yourself IRL.

After all, anyone who's read a wiki page is capable of 800m headshots with a .22.

Yeah, so when I'm holding an M4A1 I'm shaking like a leaf, but pick up a 10/22 or a Mosin and suddenly I'm Mr. Cool Under Fire? I don't think so. Besides, I was firing at a castle wall, hardly a high-adrenaline experience. I don't care about dispersion or lack of, I care about logic.

Add a few more to stay on topic:

Bars 4-1

Howa 1500

Problem is the first three are all a better fit for the 7.62x39mm.

You can't apply logic to a game based on a reality where logic doesn't exist in the first place.

And the same goes for forum members <_< back to civilian rifles, shall we?

People really have gone to enormous lengths, irrelevant lengths, to discredit the desire for more accurate weapons.

No, I/we don't want "laser-beam accurate, Davy Crockett-esque, single-hole at 1000m" weapons. Nobody's said that. So, that's pretty easy to understand. We don't want laser-beam accurate weapons. Period. End of concept.

I mean, you're seriously asserting that the developers are willfully attempting to simulate EMOTION now? Do you have any evidence to cite? And that somehow translates into MOA values? Absolutely ridiculous.

It went from "Aw, they're simulating our characters being inept" to "Dude you'd be shitting your pants! You expect to actually hit what you're AIMING AT?!?! lolololol"

Both with equal levels of imbecillery. Yes, I just made up a word specifically for this.

Again, our characters are nothing. They don't "feel." We, the players, you... me... neckbeard X behind computer Y... is scared. That's the entire premise of DayZ. They don't need to simulate something as inane as "emotion" or "ineptitude."

Weapons need to be more WYSIWYG, vice aiming at one thing... doing all the right things to ensure you're going to hit your target... and then having the game give you the middle finger and do something else.

EDIT - On-topic.

Call me crazy... but these...

EDIT 2 - Again, I don't think any of these (even the Kel-Tec) should really be a "civilian" spawn. I don't like 5.56x45 being used as a "civilian" cartridge AND a "military" cartridge, no matter how common it is in reality. I'm much more in favor of adding a few more "civilian" rounds and moving the overall hierarchy around so that there's a harder divide.

All these western guns are making me cringe. What the hells wrong with you people?

Well, just kidding :P If we need a civvie 5.56, my vote is on a Saiga variant. It sort of fits the setting. What we really need is 5.45x39. Stop with the western caliber bullshitting.

Rocket tweeted recently saying there would be a fear level that factors the weapon sway and accuracy.

Don't like it then don't play, go back to COD or something kid.

And again, how does sway = downrange accuracy?

If the barrel is swaying away from the intended target, the round isn't going to hit that location is it lol.

Did no one teach you the marksmanship principles?

/facepalm

Says the guy who has no idea what he's talking about (sway =/= natural deviation, i.e. MOA dispersion of a weapon after having fired), or evidence to support his claims. Not even going to dignify your tripe with a long-winded answer, when you're just wrong to begin with.

Here's a bit from Rocket, actually. Not made up out of thin air.

"I completely agree that weapon handling and accuracy balancing is way, way off, and that a pass needs to be done" ~ Rocket2guns

It's not against the licensing at all, unless I redistribute them to people who don't own the game, which I haven't done. Besides, the devs don't seem to care. Hell, they hid a file called "AS50_TWS" which was really just a low-poly model of text saying; "TROLOLOLOLOL", because they knew people would look into the files.

I'm much more in favor of adding a few more "civilian" rounds and moving the overall hierarchy around so that there's a harder divide.

Why does something as ubiquitous as 5.56x45mm have to be limited to military weapons? I can understand certain rifle cartridges should be limited, but 5.56x45mm itself isn't going to cause too much deviation. You're very heavily limiting the possible weapon choice you can have if you have to make one caliber be standardized for "civilian" or "military" weapon spawns.

Even then, 5.56x45mm is pretty consistent with what it has. Most 5.56x45mm guns are rifles, and the rest are largely light-machine guns (there are a few other types, but they're few and far). I don't see too much of a problem with a bolt-action and semi-automatic rifle that just happens to use the same ammunition as an M4A1 and maybe a couple of other ARs such as the Galil, HK-51, G36, or AK-102 and FN Minimi/M249. Sure, you're still going to have problems with that, but almost all of the weapons it will have are long arms.

It's not like 7.62x51mm which is used in break-action pistols, bolt-action rifles, semi-automatic/automatic battle rifles, select-fire rifles, sniper rifles, and all sorts of stuff.

I'm just not in favor of forcibly leaving out guns because they use a caliber that more powerful weapons already in-game use. It's really just doing the same things the devs are doing for the opposite reasons; instead of keeping them out because we want to limit the calibers, you're keeping them out because you want to limit the weapons.

Overused and clichéd. Who doesn't love some eastern firepower?

Nobody. But we can have both. Not sure how a round can be cliché, 7.62x39 is every bit as cliché as 5.56x45.

Granted, I think 7.62x39 is a much better stand-in for 5.56x45 if it were to be applied to "civilian" weapons, as I want 7.62x39 to be "Uncommon" vice "Rare" with 5.56x45. But, no reason we can't have both "eastern" and "western" rounds be equally as prominent.

I'd still kill for 5.45x39. My uncle has a Polish Tantal Ak rifle. Sweet gun.

I'd be vastly disappointed if they never add any 5.45 weapons. Hell, they already have a AK-74, just haven't added the damn thing yet!

Edit: What I meant was overused. Every damn movie and game has a metric fuckton of western tacticool crap, and all I want is my rugged pact weaponry. Too much to ask?
