It's been awhile since I played, so I decided to hop on experimental today. My what teeth you have grown.

So the zeds are sneaky and vicious. The axe is no longer a one shot kill, as of today anyway. I found myself running away more often than fighting today.

I can dig. Though I personally don't think it should take more than a couple swings...I'm sure that'll get ironed out later though.

Anyway, I was wandering through town and noticed a couple things. 1) Some of the buildings that didn't used to spawn anything...now spawn things, and 2) New toys. Well...I only found one new toy, the binos, not sure what else is new. They can see pretty far as well. Really far in fact...

Anyway, just wanted to share a few thoughts and pics. I searched and didn't see any other "in hand bino" threads so I figured I'd start one.

!!!!!!!

As long as they work does it really matter? XD

I mean they probably will give us a few different designs latter on down the road for the ppl that don't  like the current set.

I think they look cool, they go with the compass.  I'm sure eventually they'll add variations of all this stuff, but I dig the rustic look.  In fact I was personally hoping for an old school looking spyglass myself, so this is the next best thing!

This is a nice surprise considering rocket made a fuss about how it was oh so difficult to add binocs on reddit not that long ago.

1 slot. Also, cannot be used when prone (bug?).

           :beans:

Almost seems kinda small to Me. Was expecting 1x2 at the smallest.

They should add in military ones. That are like twice as rare latter on down the line but even better if you can find them.

That would be nice to have a telescope.. little one, like a spyglass. I like variation in this game. Like you may want certain things to fit your style of playing, or you may want to always look for that "upgrade" say from a compass to a gps, etc..

Btw, with the stuff already leaked that they are working on that I have seen recently I am quite excited about where they are taking this game. NVG, GPS, 75rd. AKM drum magazine, etc.. once they have hit beta and the content is in, this game will be amazing. Maybe better than the mods ever were.

LOL, a pair of late Russian era bino's and they have a 20x zoom even though for the size at best they could be a 8x for its era..

Might as well turn the LRS up to 40x now.

Fail...

Overall though I'm very excited for bino's!!!!

Agreed, they should definitely be put at a lower magnification.

Besides realism, having them zoom so far isn't very useful for gameplay because at that magnification, the field of view is very small.

I looked it up - these binoculars should be 6x magnification. So, a bit more than the LRS zooms right now.

Some binoculars they could add that are military and blend in with stuff.

This is a Serbian model but there are many others with similar olive green and black designs.

They take just one slot.

I also noticed that I couldn't equip them properly while crouched. Has something to do with raising the hands not functioning properly. Though I'm sure that'll be fixed.

The model has some nice details. There is a hammer and sickle stamped on them like the pic Gews posted. There was an old post a month or so ago that showed the in game model in greater detail...I love those small touches.

Seemingly anywhere. I found one on the ship (as did someone else earlier) and I believe a friend of mine said he'd gotten his from a military base.

Is this what you're seeing? They work fine standing, you can look through them, but clearly something is wrong when crouched (see below), and can't look through them at all when crouched.

Crouch:

Overall, I think they're awesome. They make scouting at a town much easier. They just need a little work.

Pretty much. It seems that when you try to look through them while crouched it...basically puts your eyeballs into the binoculars while you are holding them at your side...so you end up looking straight down pretty much.

Also noticed that you can't move while the binos are raised. You can lean, but not take any steps.

Here is an extra pic of them in 3rd person. Looking all general like.

Plus a quick pic of a gloomy looking sky I thought was neat. There is a storm comin'

EDIT: I forgot to mention.

I found my pair of binoculars in...I'm not sure how to describe it. You know those houses that have a kinda work room? There are four or five metal shelves along the walls, and I believe a tall dresser in the corner. They didn't used to spawn anything...

Hopefully that makes sense...anyway, I found my pair on one of the shelves. I'll try to take a pic of the house shortly.

EDIT TWO: Turns out I have a pic.

DayZ2014-04-1812-45-14-76-1.jpg

It's not much of a view, but hopefully those who are looking for binos will recognize the house.

Found a pair in a red brick pub today, on the counter by the sink.  They are a little glitchy right now but when the work they work great.

The axe should be one hit kill, but it should have different animations. For example.

One hit kill = swinging the axe into the "so called zombies" bodys and it gets stuck, as it would. Meaning your character has to do a short animation of pulling the axe out of their body.

The other times you use the axe you will knock them away from you, or do damage to their limbs so they limp, or fall down and crawl. Perhaps you take a quick swing at their face and damage their eyes, meaning they can't see you. This short attack would be used if their are lots of zombies and you can't afford a one hit kill.

Will never happen. Oh well.

Weird, I got my grandfathers original WW2 british binocs and it's the exact same. Did the British and Bolsheviks use the same binocs?

Can't post a pic right now, but you'll see what I mean when you search for "British No2 Mk3 binoculars" on google images.
