Developement time in DayZ

Recommended Posts

Im looking at the date the last update was released, and what it fixed/added/broke. Then i hear that the DayZ team has doubled in size. Is this game going anywhere? Look at the time it takes to develop. Look at every patch, how they sometimes almost break as much as they fix.

I personally do not have high hopes to DayZ in the near future. Looking at the time it "seems" to take, I don't think it's realistic looking at a release date within 2014-15. There is too much to add, and too much to fix. Do you think it is realistic to be able to run DayZ at 60 FPS in the middle of electra one day?

This might be a bit early to say though, so i want to hear your opinions/expectations to the game in the near future. What do you think of it now, and when do you expect it too be golden!

Cheers!

They have roughly doubled in size but being a developer it takes time to train new people, bring them up to speed and assign them what they need to do, sometimes this takes months and with roughly 30 people it will take a bit but once thats done the development should start to pick up a bit.

It's golden now, development will take as long as development takes, if you have to ask these questions I would suggest moving onto something else and pretend the game doesn't exist until it is released.

I understand that it takes time training people. Im a enviornment artist in my free time (modeling, texturing) and several times i just wanted to give up :/

You have definitely chosen the wrong time to say that about DayZ, as there has been a massive experimentalpatch on Wednesday introducing most of the key-features from the last DevBlog, including physics, huntingbow, etc. pp

They still left out the part about the bow not firing, the akm, the crossbow, the p38, the new town, hunting, fireplaces, mosin speedloader, fridges being lootable, zucchini, pumpkin, cooking, tracksuits, to name a few

But throwing yay!

QUOTO!

right words.

1000 construction sides in every new patch, they release... and the bugs/broken things are getting more and more...

They should fix the current, before they add new stuff.

Looks like they want to make it fast as possible as Dean Hall is present this year, before he leave... - fast = not good

PS: and also H1Z1 is waiting to kill dayz

You seem to be knowing an awful lot about the process of gamedevelopment the way you've been criticising its development. It takes times, but there are updates being pushed. What else do you want?

Your beans and your pants

I was just commenting on the fact that a) you said the patch was massive and only introduces bug fixes, accel time mouse accel, a few weapons and throwing stuff when there have been much larger exp updates in the past and b) that when you say most its like 4 things out of the 20 or so mentioned. Im happy to play project zomboid and wait for major patches while playing with my friends occasionlally.

Knowing how much work is involved in that I stick to my comment that it's massive and asking you what you know about the process of development.

You have said that multiple times, yet you're still here.

It seems like they are trying to push more than what they can handle. If they break as much as they fix, they are doing something wrong. Fix the problems, then add new features, and then optimize them. As i have said, i have some developement expiricence and even though it is definitly not an easy job.

I have a feeling they are focusing too much on the upcoming features than fixing the ones that already are in the game

Lets not forget the load one bullet bug for spraypainted mosins, which then appeared on the sks a few patches later.

I wouldn't want to judge the development based on what is currently happening on experimental. If you would believe what everybody's saying about experimental it's next to unplayable, but I spent hours on it yesterday to see what's the deal and I haven't had a single gamebreaking bug - but I was prepared to see a lot of that.

I was surprised in a sense that it was actually extremely playable for an experimental build.

I am more worried about they not being able to stick with the roadmap and hence having to cut content in order to reach beta in time. I don't think BI wants this game to be in alpha indefinitely

Well i was talking more in general, not necesseraly about the experimental. I havent tried it out yet. How big is it?

Roughly 300 MB, I think. I don't really know, as I keep switching between stable and experimental, meaning I have to download extra files anyway, but I have heard that the patch from experimental (Tuesday) to Experimental (Wednesday) was about 250-300 MB

Nearly all of the "fan base" of DayZ are adamant defenders of the developers. They can do no wrong. Ever. While I don't intend to belittle them I just feel that they don't have the ability to get things done in any kind of acceptable time-frame for whatever reason. Team doubled in size? I don't see it making a big difference.

Basically think of the time it takes any other team to develop then add about 800% time and you have a general idea for how long it will take the DayZ team to get anything done.

And then you realize that the progress made is only a pretty little mask.
