Could polarisation of the community be hurting development of the game?

Recommended Posts

Hello there

Please remember the devs dont apease the community.

They listen to feedback but have a very firm idea of the game they want.

This will NOT appeal to many who played the mod.

Id advise any casual player not to host a server. Not yet.

If you  knowingly buy something that you KNOW will be restricted/broken and acknowledged the fact then that is your choice.

Criticism and feedback is wanted. What we dont like is ranting and crazy supposition.

We are very relaxed here.

Try posting in the BiS forums and see how you fare.

We are very transparent too, although we get the usual abuse and conspiracy claims.

Is everything 100pc perfect? Gosh no. But are We like the WARZ devs/ (old) mods? Heck no.

Rgds

I like that idea! (does that make me sick? :P )

Again you have brought up another good point, how are people who purchased the alpha meant to know the limitations of the engine or gaming in general when they have no experience in development themselves?

I don't have any experience in development but I have learned over the years of my gaming that game engines are designed for certain things.  BiS's engine has been primarily designed as a mil sim engine.  Other companies design their game engine primarily for the role that they want to make their games to be about.

This is actually quite interesting, as I think a lot of people would have paid money for the game not just to test it, but to have an input in the development process.

And this is the problem, the paid alpha 'early access' model is at odds with reality, if you are truly expecting constructive criticism and help from all the people who buy the game, it's a delusion.

Specially when that game was hyped for two years and released right before christmas... "but hell, are you dissappointed? Wellm sorry bud, we warned you"

This is one of the things that I really like about BiS.  They are not afraid to make the game that they want and not sell out to the gaming world with half assed games just to make a quick buck

WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.

That was not directed at you, just a small reminder

In my younger days Alpha's were usually closed, and beta's were free to play.

The fact that they charge a considerable amount of money for "early acces" means they have a certain obligation to deliver.

Well yeah, I guess so, there is no mention of actually being a part of the dev process, for me then this is just paying the company to test when it used to be the other way around. No one can then complain about the community really as they have actually paid for the game.

Heh, getting into Alpha's back in the day was a chore sometimes.  Some companies basically wanted a resume on your gaming experience.

If you think $30 is a considerable then I am at a loss for words.  Look at gaming companies such as EA who charge you $60-$70 for a broken product then charge you even more after words for all the DLC.  Majority of games now a days cost over $100 just to get a reasonable number of hours of gameplay.

That's the thing.  You now own the game.  Once it's fully released who get the full game without paying for it.

You still do need a resume for most game to be an alpha tester, for ESO I had to go through what seemed like a job interview.

Without paying for it? I think I did pay for it :)

Yup and I was not even impressed with the game.  What turned me off with ESO even more was the survey after.

Again

The progress the game went through between November - January was immense, I think that's when the beta started, it's a good model for dev teams as the feedback forums were amazing, people really got into it and the devs listened. Saying that I still haven't purchased the game lol.

I didn't buy the collectors edition but I did buy the game and paid a subscription just to have it thrown in my face.  I still like the Mass Effect series tho :)

Going back on topic, I guess now I understand that the dev's aren't really listening to the community regarding ideas or gameplay (As the quote from the mod earlier), the polarisation, if it exists, doesn't matter as all dev's have to do is look at bugs and hackers etc and fix those. I can say I'm actually a bit disappointed and hoped that the community could help develop the game as it was so much a part of its success.

Yep there is a laundry list of really good companies/products that EA has consumed and destroyed.

A compelling argument for the regulation of monopolies.

you're welcome to post all your inner fears: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/170818-what-are-your-biggest-concerns-and-fears-regarding-the-nearfar-future-of-the-game/

Does RV engine support "two sided" meshes? i don't think that solving the glitch to see through buildings is so easy to get rid of without drastically changing every single object (changing meshes, creating "double-textured walls" -> massive performance hit!). simply changing hitboxes? woudln't that imply even much much more "clunkier" gameplay in buildings creating dramatic issues in "bottlenecks" namely doorways?

is this an issue which is totally overlooked or downplayed?
