weedmasta 784 Posted April 9, 2014 I keep seeing in the update details that "Players will be able to create fires and light flammable objects on fire" Now maybe I just interpreted this wrong? You would think they would refer to it as "cooking", & not "the ability to light things on fire" if that were the case. Now if it is the former scenario (you can only make static campfires as opposed to lighting in-game objects on fire), then this isn't how I originally interpreted the initial update announcement. ALTHOUGH, I would still love to see molotovs in game even if this is a concept that would need to be worked from the ground up at this point in development. Again, think Counter-Strikes incendiaries & molotovs I believe that is just slightly bad wording there as there has been no mention about actual dynamic fire anywhere, to my knowledge. P0rkchop 31 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Some people just want to watch the world burn Edited April 9, 2014 by P0rkchop
tatchell (DayZ) 73 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) I like this idea, however I currently I think there are 2 problems about implementation with this atm.1. Actual alcohol bottles (anyone know when they are going to be implemented?)2. The realism factor or in other words the fire spread system. I see you already mentioned of letting spot X only burn for a couple of seconds but that wouldn't be very realistic would it? The other side is you let the fire spread and let half the map burn down...of course that's not an option either.. 1. Surely the alcohol tincture counts? 2. I'd say that's not realistic either - unless there's a heatwave and none of that Chernarussian grass has any moisture or all those trees are dead I can't see the fire spreading much. The game doesn't look like it's set at a particularly dry period. But yeah seriously, I tried this even during a very hot period in the summer, jacksh*t happened to the rest of the garden :P Edited April 10, 2014 by tatchell
Buck10489 29 Posted April 9, 2014 So anyone who has been keeping themselves up to date with the developers of DayZ would already know that we have a patch inbound by the end of this month (April) A few of the main highlights of the next update are the new throwing physics, & the ability to light flammable objects on fire. What better time to implement molotovs now that we're getting both throwing physics & fire? They could be a craftable item that require a bottle of alcohol & a rag to make. Whenever you want to use it, put the molotov in your hands, & drag a box of matches over it, & it's now on fire ready to be thrown. Throw it, & watch the radius of where it landed burn for X amount of seconds (think Counter-Strike: GO). This could vary as we haven't yet seen what will actually be "flammable" & what will not in game. What we can expect in the next update has really inspired this idea & this is something I would love to see in game. Feel free to post any opinions as to way this should or should not be put into the game. I have a better idea.....why dont they start fixing the bigger issues instead of adding more pointless crap
gibonez 3633 Posted April 10, 2014 As long as the throwing is more ARMA 3 than 2. My favorite throwing method in any arma game.
Rick1633 136 Posted April 10, 2014 The same planet where Dean stated that we will have the ability to light things on fire by the end of April 2014Are you fucking serious? There is lag when we hit our hot key for our weapons. How can we have shit on fire within 2 or 3 weeks on this current game? Does dean mean that a zombie will show a tiny flame on them for 1 second because their bodies disappear even before they hit the ground? I say again, what planet do you guys live on? I say 18 months of serious work and maybe to see lots of fire.

doctorbadsign 645 Posted April 10, 2014 I can see them adding molotovs I don't think they will be that good though. I can't see them setting things alight for sustained periods of time or fire spreading or anything.
