Plaguetongue 47 Posted April 9, 2014 To help with develpment what he said, to help the devs, both by alpha testing and economical by buying the game
tatchell (DayZ) 73 Posted April 9, 2014 I like to play because me and my squad enjoy surviving and sweeping the north-east and Berezino of bandits. We enjoy the squad vs squad aspects which really gave the game more appeal to me after I had kind of mastered the "lone-wolf" play style after 100hrs or so. Now I'm on 420hrs and counting and loving every bit of it. So ultimately it's about the shared experiences with friends (most of whom I met on DayZ) and the adrenaline pumping moments of risking it all in combat. I can live that post-apocalyptic life that I sometimes visit in my sleep ;)
tatchell (DayZ) 73 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) What would make me quit the game? Quite simple really, if I have none to play it with, I will probably not play it myself. He gets it! Exactly the same. I know people complain a lot about how PvP or KoSing is bad but honestly, there's nothing more team-binding than getting assaulted by an unknown, hidden malicious player/group and subsequently spending the next 30mins clinically executing them with your friends :P ahhhhh the memories  But yeah if my squad mates stopped playing then I'd run out of reasons to play immediately. SoWeMeetAgain 100 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) As the current state of the game stands, if you want a challenge, per say, simply log into a 39/40 pop server. I guarantee, 90% of the people who complain that they get geared up in 30 min are those that log on to low pop servers. Of course you will gear up fast. Try logging into the ONLY HC server on experimental atm. Yea, see how long you go until you starve of hunger and die. Don't placate your grievances with complaint threads about how easy the game is and troll about why you "should" be playing Dayz. Play the game for what it is, and if you want to play it in accordance to your lack of "challenge," then get on those high pop, non 2 hr resets and then get back to us. Irish. 4886 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) I think its the most exciting shooter Ive played in a long time. I love the thrill of the hunt, and so few other games give that. I love to see someone, get close to them, and then tell them I intend to kill them or die trying. The tension that builds, and the anticipation of what could happen at any moment is just amazing. I love the epicness of ongoing firefights involving large clans and vast expanses of Chernarus terrain. Getting killed and rushing back into battle to help your mates. The laughter, the pain, the ongoing quest for more.. and not even knowing why you do it. But you come back. Why play a game for points? Or stats to gloat over? Why play for leaderboard status or achievements and trophies? Why waste your valuable time in this short breath we call life with something so meaningless as a video game? Distraction. We all crave it. Edited April 9, 2014 by lrish
Ubermaster 39 Posted April 9, 2014 Because I can't be a physodelic killer in rl and bully everyone that I encounter.Dayz is the perfect place for me to expres my feelings. And to run for miles because I can't do that anymore. (I lost my legs during a catfight)

TheScruffyBandit 382 Posted April 9, 2014 Honestly? A friend got me hooked. Flawed though the game may be, it's a fantastic idea and also a cool little sociology experiment.

brumey 116 Posted April 9, 2014 I do agree though, that some kind of story or goal would be cool, though it could take away from the openness, free, roleplay, sandbox aspects if done wrong. For me, some more unique buildings, notes, graffiti, dead bodies in interesting positions, etc. would be enough. However.... There's only so much they can do with the ARMA assests, and server load restrictions. they could tell a Story through item descriptions like demons souls or dark souls does! WOULD BE AWESOME! zeroy 240 Posted April 9, 2014 What are your reasons? And no, "for fun" and similar doesn't cut it obviously. I have been playing video games for quite a while and I must admit there is simply no game like it in my experience. I ditched the DayZ mod aside shortly after trying it - found it just too cumbersome to even install let alone play it - but was drawn to buy DayZ SA after watching a few videos. Basically the gist of it for me is two things: 1. The Sandbox experience. A game that has no goal, you just spawn there. What? Yes, I found this single feature just brilliant, at the time of Operation Flashpoint I had loved the concept already with the Expansion pack "resistance" where you start off alone as an escapee prisoner. For once a game that doesnt guide you in any way. A simplistic, beautiful uncluttered HUD too to go along with this :) 2. The tension created by the PVP experience. I have played many FPS, RTS, MMOs and others type of Multiplayer games but there is nothing quite like Dayz SA when it comes to building the tension for this ultimate PVP confrontation. At least, with my style of gameplay... I do see a lot going on on the coast in streams or videos but to be honest this is not my cup of tea, I can play GTA or COD even to get that messing around spawn/die/spawn/die style gameplay. So yeah, this is why I play Dayz SA, for its total freedom and infinite role playing ability but also for its constant tension that forces you to be on alert all the time. AdmiralBull 15 Posted April 9, 2014 I played the mod until it became so saturated w/ hackers & cheaters that I had to leave it behind.I played most of the other maps that had been modded and several different mods of the original mod.I found that much of what Zeroy99's post said fit me too. I just stuck it out longer than he did. I find that this game is ultimately about survival, adapting and, overcoming. There are parameters that are setup within the game that allows you so many choices of what you can do within the vast map of Chernarus. The quest that each of us partake of is how to learn to survive, not so much the longest but,how much are you willing to lose in order to figure out how to gain it back without struggling as much as you did the last time you started from scratch? That is what I get out of the game.I try not to depend on others to help me gain my personal items within the game so that I don't become reliant on them. That is not to say that I don't play with others to help them or to kill them for my survival. It depends on the situation and the interaction each and everytime I logon to the server to play.I don't judge other folks gamestyle and tell them how to play the game. Its about choice and covering YOUR OWN ASS while in the game.Closest thing to the Walking Dead that I have ever been immersed in and I hope that it will not become hacker & cheater infested as the mod before it did. This particular mix of PvE & PvP is the best gametype and nothing out there yet has got it beat...IMHO
artisan661 13 Posted April 9, 2014 I love zombies and the whole survival aspect of the game. When i 1st seem gameplay of the mod(on arma 2), i was immediately hooked without even playing it yet lol Its really a heart pumping experience at times. Thats the main thing i really enjoy it. No other game does that for me. This game has a huge risk/reward system without putting an actual system in. Its just the nature of the game. Go to a high value place and risk encounters or play it safe and loot other stuff, or try to find a player to kill. I think its up to the person to make different experiences for themselves. Ive seen some hilarious stuff in the mod, wasteland and SA, by people getting a little creative lol....let those imaginations roll fellas I havent played a game quite like this before. this to me is a more realistic zombie game. With the entire experience of a huge map that you can travel around, with a lot of towns and people who you cant trust. Having to navigate and then take care of the character.....just to die to a bug or a little kid....fun times. Times i like to be solo and do the whole survival part and get out, or hang around as a fresh spawn just to see wtf will happen to me or someone else.....like a social experiment lol
