NATO and Soviet Army assault rifles

Recommended Posts

Which organisation's standardized assault rifles are in service/used to be in service by the armed forces in the real life counterpart of Chernarus?

Could we have a history lesson of the armed forces that were either established or located in the real life counter part of Chernarus, and the firearms they use for service in the past and in the present.

Where did the M4A1's come from?

There is no real life counterpart, it's a "generic" country.

The Chernarussian Defence Force used the AK-74 as their standard service rifle as of 2009.

Equipment of CDF soldiers is a mixture of older gear, modern kevlar helmets and camouflage fatigues based on Soviet airborne uniform design. Soldiers are armed with AK-74 rifles, PKMs and other personal weapons of Eastern provenience.

The new Russian made AK-12 (replacement for the AK-47) is comes in NATO 5.56 and 7.62 versions

Ak-12 is in the Trash. It wasn't adopted. It wasn't used by the CDF anyway. I don't believe it comes in 7.62x39, either.

Chernarus isn't in the Czech Republic. The map is based on satellite images from that area. Chernarus is (In arma, ofc) actually in Turkey on the Russian border, and is about three-four times bigger, the map area being the South Zorgia province.

The M4s were brought into the country by a regiment of spec ops soldiers, that's why they outnumber the amount of AKs you can find in the country. I bet they dropped their M4s and took the AKs home because they are more reliable. ;)

This is a fictional country according to you which makes the question of a history lesson moot, so what you are saying this time is fictional lore?

We'll the lore of it is that it's a post soviet country, so Soviet surplus SHOULD be the majority.  Past that its conjecture.  The country is loosely based on the Czech Republic, which has become more westernized.  The reason why the M4 is there in abundance is because it was the first weapon they worked on that had the most attachments (bayonet/silencer, hand guards, bipod, flash light, scopes, magazines, stocks, all the 'mounting points' that they can work on and get working with one weapon, then copy what they did over to other weapons) and is in a way a placeholder for the AK (I would assume the 74 would replace it as the 'standard' assault weapon and make the M4 a bit rarer).

Lorewise I think when the Standalone gets more weapons, AKs (AKMs/74/74u) will be the more common of the military weapons, being 'standard issue'.  Some of the more western military type weapons could probably be explained as belonging to police forces or the few NATO forces that responded to the outbreak or something before the outbreak.   I don't know if the events of Arma2 have taken place in the same universe as DayZ, but that would also explain a few of the NATO weapons.

They didn't say when the outbreak happened but it's clearly in a "post-soviet" country. I'm sure eastern bloc weapon fanboys don't want western weapons gone...just less likely to find compared to native equipment.

Honestly i think the M4A1's have no place in Dayz at all unless the writers at BI draft up some lore for the Dayz universe

Imo it's more of what rocket decides on a whim...you can lose track of what you do or wanted to do very easy when you become popular too fast. You feel the need to satisfy the wrong people and forget your fanbase.

I miss the Falcon rifle in the list. But others are right - Chernarus is not Czech Republic which can be easily proven by these cowboy hats laying everywhere, in Czech Rep. no one wears them :)
