Einhaender 1 Posted April 6, 2014 I think being able to hold a place with barricades would add something to the gameplay value. Let's say some people barricade themselves somewhere significant and thus others would team up to get to that place. i.e an airfield that to some degree has been taken and barricaded or a part of a town. Together with "loot respawn" and "one-character per server/set spawn points", once they are implemented, this would create a lot of new situations for players to adapt to and, imo, multiply the fun. It also adds to the realism and contrary to what some people believe - it would create much more immersion. Personally, I wouldn't settle somewhere though. I've always been and probably will be a forest guy.
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted April 11, 2014 How is occupying a town not survival?well, occupying and camping are two different things imo. And there's a fine line between the two..
Katana67 2907 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) I mean there's a difference in some things (like having the ability to build a base versus having the ability to build a fully-functioning base). For example, I'd love to be able to create a base. But throwing security cameras and keypad locks on stuff isn't something I think is in the spirit of DayZ. However, as per my own outlook, anything can be incorporated into DayZ so long as it abides by a few things. One, it abides by the fiction, which is relatively flexible. Second, and most importantly, is whether or not an item or action has consequence/risk. Survival, in its simplest form, is the effective management of consequence/risk. So if they want to include something, as per your example, like a security camera... it has to be justifiably difficult to find/create, operate, and maintain. For instance, if finding a camera was rare in itself. If finding an intact monitor was rare in itself. If POWERING said items required a functioning generator which produced noise and required fuel. All of which has to be done in a world with hostile players, zombies, and environments. Likewise, if a camera could be disabled if discovered, via small arms fire. Then I have no issue with it being in the game. Edited April 11, 2014 by Katana67
