Gonzo84 6 Posted April 1, 2014 Ok I have read the existing suggestions on doors and here is mine. So originally to open a door you hover over it and click Mouse Wheel Button. My suggestion is instead of the door opening automatically, you need to hold the Mouse Wheel Button and walk forwards to open it. If you are creeping and open the door slowly, there will be little to no noise. If you are running and open the door there will be a lot of noise.
VoidingNixx 39 Posted April 1, 2014 It would be nice to see a mechanic similar to Rainbow Six gameplay, for doors and such, if that is possible to add. You use to be able to fully open a door, or mouse-wheel it to open/close the door in increments. Where the game is currently, I would be happy just to have a sound for when doors open/close. But I totally agree with you. It would be nice to have a system like the one you have mentioned.
Crazy_Spider 235 Posted April 1, 2014 I often prone into buildings and people never know I'm there until it's too late... We need door opening sounds ;)
JiJi (DayZ) 223 Posted April 1, 2014 I think I remember door or gate animation (states opened/closed) are coded a way that it cannot really interpolate middle states the way you want to work. However sound is very much possible.
TheRealDen 24 Posted April 1, 2014 A sound would be nice, yes.But i don't know if the described system is really necessary.Easier would be a think like if you open the door as it works now, there will be a noise. But you can select another point "open/close door slowly" and the door will again automatically open/close, but this time of course much slower and with little to no noise. That is easier to script and IMHO acceptable.

Often doors actually squeek less if you open them really fast and more if you open them slowly.

Yeah you are right here, perhaps introduce WD-40 as an item to which you can apply to door hinges before you open them so you can sneak in unheard :)

Jex 1104 Posted April 7, 2014 Every game that is ever made that has doors in it (with the exception of Star Trek games) should have the Raven Shield system of door opening - no question
