What sorcery is this?

STORY TIME! :)

So I changed to a french server yesterday, with high pop about 38/40 I think, and I was heading towards NW Airfield...Since the server was so highly populated and NW Airfield is generally seen as a deathmatch area I was moving very cautiously towards it...

Only to find that there is NOBODY there. I spent half an hour at the airfield, and the only people I saw were zambies. What's even worse is that I didn't hear a single gunshot from anywhere. I even fired a few myself, in a suicidal moment, but still NOTHING.

I mean, how is this possible? I thought the Airfields were the most targeted places to go for players, especially the NW one. Did everybody suddenly move to Elektro and the military base near Pavlovo?

Admin, please don't bury this  :(

Same here. I've been playing on NWAF continuously for a week, exclusively on 15-25 player servers and I only saw one player in that entire time and heard no shots whatsoever. Everything unlooted as well.

All high pop servers are basically elektro deathmatch. You will more likely find someone at the airfields or any other military base on a 5 of 40 server then on a high pop. Thats why im only grinding these servers :D

All the *ahem*  new players...  can't really find their asses in the dark with both hands, what makes you think they even know where NWAF is?

That is correct.

When you kill the Electro sniper the game resets and you have won.

So I changed to a french server yesterday

Ah, see there's your problem. They were probably all surrendering to the one German player who joined.

But in all seriousness, that's pretty lucky. A while back I was playing on a server and all the other players had left because it was, like, 2:00am. I was about a mile from the NE airfield so I figured I may as well loot it before turning in/ switching server when one player joined. I started looting the hangars and what do you know, the only other player on the server runs in. Doesn't even shoot me. Hell, he led me to an SKS that he found but had no use for. Really nice guy.

The odds of running into the only other player on the server are pretty low, especially since I usually avoid populated areas. Only went to NEAF because I figured it would receive less traffic than NWAF and the one on the south coast.

Edit: Love your avatar.  Mr. Bean should be a custom character for DayZ.

Yeah a week or so ago after getting bored with my character I decided to "get risky" and venture to NWAF on a full server to find some trouble.

Only there was no trouble to be found.  :(

Well, heck, that's one big fucking coincidence. But it's a small world these days...a small, 225 km2 open world, devastated by an unknown infection that has wiped out most of its population, turning some of them into mindless zombies. That is where DayZ takes place. It's a fictional creation based on areas of the Czech Republic, where ArmA developer Bohemia Interactive is located.

Ive killed many players at the NWAF and the mil base just south of it.. but the ONLY way I have found it to not just end with me sitting there watching the sun cross the sky is:

Must be a fresh server restart, and I mean fresh.. empty. Join those servers, and watch it fill up quickly to 5-8 players. If not, find a new server to hunt in. These are the servers that hoppers look for, and they tend to go to those areas. You have to move around, because some will only loot within a building and then relog somewhere else to rinse and repeat I suppose. Its really best when you catch them in the building, pants down.. head shot him after saying, "Hey, did you think this would be safe to do?" in sidechat. ;)

North east air field is the new Nwaf.

That is where i am most of the time.

I always get most action on "DE moin moin" server (name was something like that), almost always 40/40. Lots of clans go there.

Well there's your problem. Everyone on there just drops their guns and runs when they see a bandit.

And yeah go to NE airfield everyone goes there now because you just run up the coast.

You must be kidding, I just came from NEAF because I wanted some action in NWAF and now suddenly everyone wento to NEAF  <_<

Also your first line is pretty similar to the one from BeefBacon  :P

NWAF is so mainstream. Hipsters suvivors are going NEAF now.

In the mod, NWAF was the only place to find barracks. That is why it was such a hotzone. However in the current build of the Standalone, the loot you find at the NWAF is the same as the loot you find in Balota, is the same as the loot you find in Zelen, is the same as the loot you find at the NEAF, etc. etc. etc.

I hope some day the DayZ team as unique loot back to the NWAF in order to give people a reason to return to it. How bound satchel charges and RPGs that only spawn in one building at the NWAF and nowhere else on the map.

Could be a little too awesome, if you ask me.

are the airfields better locations for deathmatch than Elektro for some particular reason?

IMO why NE airfield is better then Electro for death match

1. Much better fps

2. More open space so easier to spot people. Electro lots of buildings and windows, z-fighting, graphical glitches, incorrect LOD changes all over cant see shit from distance or up close as everything is "swimming"

3. Hackers are most likely to go to Electro then airfield

4. A lot less fresh-spawns on airfields

5. Airfield is relatively close to spawn points

6. 2 towns are very close to airfield

7. 3 water wells and some water pools/river in the forest nearby

8. Lots of wooded area to be unseen while flanking

...

good points. thanks.

although this is kinda controversial; "Lots of wooded area to be unseen while flanking" and "More open space so easier to spot people"
