  1. 1. Why does KOS exist

    • I fear for my survival because he may kill me
    • It is easier to take his loot than find my own
    • I dont want to be watched
    • Competition for loot and supplies
    • I kill anybody for fun
    • People are assholes

What we could need would be some identification of players. SAO (Sword Art Online) for example has cursors above the players heads. If they didn't harm other players, the cursor stays green, but if they harm them, it becomes orange. I know that this wouldn't be clever in this game, because it would give away positions and do other stupid stuff. What i thought of would be some kind of system like the hunger one. If you see another player that killed, lets say, 5 survivors already, your character mumbles to himself: "I don't know if i should trust that guy." This message only appears if you have direct sight to this guy in a radius of around 30 metres or so.

Only time I KoS is if the player is in a group (And usually I target the most-armed, best geared member), if someone rushes me with a melee weapon or fists or has a gun in their hands. I'm simply not going to take any risks because I've been on the other side of the coin and shot regardless.

The idea of an identification system is ridiculous because it makes it too obvious, you shouldn't be able to determine a hero from a villain in a matter of seconds, there's little risk involved in a game where risk should be around every corner. The mumbling is a good idea, but again, can't be too obvious, there needs to be risk. It's part of the game, people need to stop getting so frustrated over it because they're not alone, I'm positive we all have been affected by KoS. It isn't an issue, it's just how people want to play. Ultimately, it's down to you, those who have such a problem with it to change the way you play, to be more cautious and to take more care when moving from place to place, looting house after house etc.

Then why not make it hidable. Like, with a really rare item you can use you can hide that status and are invisible for a few days. (meaning the your status is hid and nobody can see it) I know what you mean about being obvios, but I really would like that feature. A hero (he mumbles: "Seems like i can trust this person") can shoot you on sight, where a bandit where he thinks that he can't trust him can aid him.

Exactly players like you are the ones that fear death the most. You can shoot me thousands of times, i actually don't give a damn. I prefer to stay true to my roots, rather then becoming a noballer and shoot on sight xD.

In the few times I've been killed by another player, I've always just assumed it's because I pose a threat to them. They may justify it a million other ways, but at the end of the day if I didn't seem like a threat they probably wouldn't bother to kill me. Lucky for me, most people don't ever know I'm near them and lucky for them I don't KoS most of the time.

Just because people are assholes. Until today I have never KoS'ed. Yes, I have a Mosin with a LRS, but I use it mostly for scouting, since there are no field glasses in the game. I observe. But I was KoS'ed once by a camper in Elektro.

Ummm tough one this...I think it can be a mixture of things when it comes to it. I.e. if your character is starving and there is no way you can find anything and you stumble across someone, do you either kill on site and loot all his gear or be friendly and see how it plays out and hope he will give you some chow. This is the great thing about DayZ.....there is a different type of game play every time you play.

Yesterday for example, everyone i came across were out to kill me or anything that moved...i didn't dare show my face for to long in cities like cherno/elektro. But after switching servers later on i came across some awesome people, exchanging food and supplies, helping each other out. I even ended up helping with a rescue mission as two bandits had kidnapped a small group of heroes friend.

I started this weekend (just got the game). I have died a bunch witch is ok. But man the KOS is hard. I am running around with nothing I have no weapons and they just KOS. One guy asks are you friendly try to respond and he kills me.

Found a dead body loot it some guy shows up and begs me not to shoot him. I ask if this was him he said yes. I start to tell him that I will give his stuff back he punches me and kills me.

I kinda thought there would be more people working as a team or making friends to get loot. Got to say is kinda hard to have people get set up and just hunt other players.

I don't care about dying at all. You're the one asking them to add a green or red arrow over people's heads so you automatically know you have to run away from people. I actually risk going up and talking to people.

Yes there is a huge difference between red and green arrows or your character literally telling you if someone is a bandit or hero .....

And I couldn't really care less about being ignored by a guy who's been on the forums for 6 days and is already trying to turn the game into the shit-show, easy mode, complete opposite of what the game is supposed to be that the mod turned into and puts people on ignore for having a different opinion then themselves.

Want to magically know about people who you've never met's kill history which ruins the entire game .... I hear there's this thing called DayZ Mod for ARMA 2 that does that.
