Time for a break from DAYZ already I think

Recommended Posts

I died twice today because of rubber banding...

Both times I was on top of a building...and suddenly in mid air falling to my death.

Is this pure a server / game engine problem or can it be something on my side?

To be quite honest, I'm thinking about taking a break from playing for a while after about 150 hours of playing for several reasons:

1: what drew me into this game was the survival aspect and potential to interact / coop in a nice way with other players. I know I could join a group but I was hoping for gamers who are like minded and can form alliances on the spot  But since this is Alpha and the survival aspect is far from completion I am not getting enough satisfaction. (yes, was to be expected because of alpha stage)

2: just like with any other online game it is being dominated by children and ass holes that just want to be in a pvp shooting game. I have strong doubts the devs will be able to solve this problem.

3: constantly dying because of rubber banding, KOS and lag is getting old fast. I like the looting aspect of the game and don't mind doing it but constantly dying for stupid reasons is getting annoying. Am I not skilled enough to survive in this virtual world? Probably. Is it a world that motivates me to want to survive, probably not. I can hold my own in shooting games but that is not what I am looking for in DAYZ. Could well be a mistake in my expectations.

4: many on this forum are, well, smart ass kids and wankers who think they are funny and have nothing constructive to offer. Obviously some forum members and players ARE the right stuff so kudos to them!

So I should probably take a break for now and come back after some updates that, hopefully, somehow counteract the kiddos and selfish assholes. This game is either not for me or it is still too early to tell. I am hoping for the latter because I always wanted a good survival type game.

Hopefully soon, with hunting and some of the new additions right around the corner, some of the survival elements will become more appealing.  We are a ways away from what you had envisioned I'm afraid (its what I had envisioned by the way), and nothing wrong with taking a break in a game early in development.  Stay close to the releases and hopefully we'll all get that finished sandbox that's appealing to play in!  As far as the kiddies and aholes go?  Its the internet, that isn't changing anytime soon!  :)

I know how you feel, I played the mod for over a year and had to take a break from it, just picked up the SA over the weekend and I'm sucked right back in. Give it a break, play something else and I'm sure the bug will bite you again.

Hello there

To be honest a break will probably do you good. 150 hours in a very unfinished game is a lot.

KoS will be addressed but it will always be a danger. Get used to players being a huge threat.

I played for the first time in months today and the only two encounters i had were both neutral rather than aggressive or friendly, although i did have a sawn off shotgun brandished at me and on a busy server. No shots fired though.

As to difficult folk both in game and on the forum, if they step over the line one can always use the report button.

Rgds

Like someone else posted previously. You add persistent storage and it becomes a different game. Add vehicles on top of that and it will become another different game. There are countless bugs at the moment but we are seeing improvements. I am in the same boat as you to be honest, but I'm willing to wait it out and keep playing as the game gets better. Hopefully when you come back it'll be going the way you want it to :)

I'm not sure if its just me, but rubber banding is way way worse than it was before.I hadn't played in about a month, jumped on a server to see the new guns, and ended up dying off a roof as I rubberbanded back onto it.

Same here on the rubber banding, zombies also seem to be all over the place (and this is with 70 ping and 0 desync) but  I'm not here to complain about it, as stated many times before we are here getting an early peek at a work in progress and anybody expecting more than that should indeed take a long break.

Well better off than me. I'm still being forced to take a break due to Battleye not responding issues since last week and a slow response back and forth between BE support and myself. May have to wait it back out until another patch to see if it clears anything up

It is too early to tell however there will always be kiddos and selfish assholes, just like there are in every other games  ;)

have a break alot of us have and are playing mods on arma 3 like breaking point. while dayz is fixed sorted and updated. when Dayz is of a decent standard and decent content then well play again.

its a great game but cause you want it done and ready to play it can be infuriating so a break is best.

150 hours for a game is pretty good value for money, I'm usually bored with most games by the 20 hour mark. Take a break for a bit and try it again at some point in the future.

So why are all you guys climbing to the top of buildings? Just to enjoy the views?

It's been well known since the game came out that Buggering about on top of buildings is risky and if you are sniping then it's a risk you have to take until it gets fixed.

To some people saying "hunting", its fun, who would argue with that, but it gets repetitive, more like vehicles and base building will be the things to keep people in the game.

Dont take a break, the trick is not to get attached to your gear, easier said than done though. To get enough food to survive, you need to go inland. Unfortunately once you are inland you will trip over so many guns it will be impossible not to take one. As soon as u have one with enough ammo to take on a small army, you ofcourse dont want to loose it. Thats when this game becomes boring, you avoid the coast, and keep to yourself in the woods, jumping at every sound. I am in the same boat, even though i had so much fun being weaponless on the coast just a day before. Kos is definetly reduced when you got nothing.

My advice to you, forget guns and large backpacks, go inland find school backpack only put in couple of cans of food, get a fire axe and bandages. Come back to coast and have fun, other players are only heroes when not threatened by you

You may be very right about that, will give that a go next time I die. It is not so much that I am attached to my gear but about wanting "my game" and feeling others are forcing "their game" on me.

BTW, had my first experiences on a busy experimental server and was able to team up with some other bambi's, that was more like I would want it to work.

Unfortunately unless you run in a group i wouldnt recommend going coast with too much equipment. If you want to team up my steam name is lanadejan, add me. I dont play much but might be handy to have friends ingame

I've actually gone ahead and took a break also. Infact, I've got rid of the game completely. Why? Basically everything what OP has stated.

I'm certainly most definitely be going to get the game again. As soon as they add Hunting, Persistent storage, I will probably start playing again.

As of now, The game is just unacceptable to play on. Riddled with constant dsync issues and not to mention the most annoying.. 13 year old l33t pricks who think it's cool to sit under/inside the map for hours until they kill someone with some good loot. That is the most annoying of them all and it still hasn't been fixed, 2-3 months down the line.

Hunting, Cooking and Persistent Storage will indeed, take the game to a whole new level of experience. It will allow us to focus on the different aspects of game. Spending hours hunting, cooking, gathering things to store away, hunt for other player's storages.. amazing.

DayZ to me is a proper and pure survival game. I want be able to hunt and cook and i want store my precious items somewhere safe and sound. I want to go hunt other player's shit and be like 'Holy shit dude, guess what I just found!?'.

Until then, I just simply cannot play as the gameplay experience is so boring, repetitive and unrewarding. And that's coming from someone who has clocked 300+ hours on the game.

Well if you don't know i will tell you that there is loot on top of roofs, not just up there for the view or sniping, grow a set and take a look sometime.

i actualy uninstalled SA recently..

realized i simply dont like the direction its gone..

to much of a koS forcefeed murder sim... not enuf of a survival horror game.

perhaps when/if it ever hits retail release candidate i'll look into loading it back up.. but to be honest i dont have much if any faith the devs can find a balance for this game given the state of the community that plays it.

luckily the mod has tons of versions of dayz that can be had to play...

Hey I'm man enough to admit that in DayZ I have Climacophobia/stepnophobia.

Factories are fine, but anything involving ladders, no way until it's more stable. This toon has survived an age and that's largely down to not playing Parkour on buggy rooftops.
