Zombie spawning

Recommended Posts

pre-patch I was looking forward to zombies spawning. Finally, a bit of life (or more undeath) being added to the game.

Now having played it, I have to say I hate the way zombies spawn.

I spent 20 minutes almost getting killed by zombies in Krasnostav. I couldn't bandage because the zombies were spawning so quickly that before I could bandage, more had spawned and were on top of me.

I ran to the outskirts, blood pissing out of me, but still they kept spawning all around me.

I managed to bandage but was immediately smacked by another zombie and started bleeding again

I ran further out of town. Still they kept coming.

I ran further. I'm now in the middle of a field well outside town.

Guess what. Zombies are appearing out of thin air and coming for me.

In my escape from town, I got through 2 sks snap loaders, 5 magnum snap loaders, 1 fnx45 mag and 2 of the new 22 pistol mags.

1 bullet per zombie.

Now I really wanted some more action in the game, but damn, having to go through 50 rounds of ammo to just be able to bandage is really taking the piss a little. Surely they've pushed things a little TOO far in the opposite direction.

It could have been a little more fun, but the fact that I could see zombies pop into existence all around the field and immediately turn and start running at me really detracted from the game.

Bottom line -

More zombies = good but surely it can be better implemented than this?

in Krasnostav

There's yer problem! What did you expect to find in a large town like that? Babystrollers filled with candy and floppy fish?

Agreed though.

Dean said something about zombies spawning OUTSIDE of towns after the players clear the area, then they will start walking toward the town as the players make noise. Will add some fun times with all the barricading and stuff that's planned!

loooooooooooooool. If you've ever played the mod or variations of the mod, you'd be saying "Hell yeah! Let's get it on!"

Play faster and smarter, live longer.

I think the system is a bit hardcore and a little frayed around the ends, but I think they are onto something good.

My advice to anyone complaining: Fucking man up.

There is a little juggling involved now Hozzdutch. Run or fight?

A good way to deal with them, would be to axe them up, or make a beeline and break line of sight.

The longer you stick around letting rounds fly off, the more zombies you will attract. The chances now that you will run out of bullets and rags due to excessive wastage as the barrage will not decease, is much higher than ever with this latest patch.

So, yeah, there's a lot of dumb folks out there.

But anywho, yeah, the spawns are a bit much (and are prototypical/temporary). Zombies spawn around you WITH AGGRO, even if they weren't spawned when you drew aggro in the first place. Makes no sense.

I'm all for making zombies a threat, I've been advocating for it for two years. But the morons saying "deal with it" or "learn to adapt" or "zombies are now a threat and people still complain" aren't taking the whole picture into account.

They need to revamp how one draws aggro. Zombies currently do not respect any changes in silhouette, speed, or distance. They aggro you from a mile off, regardless of whether you're slow-crawling through a bush or sprinting in an open field. This temporary spawn mechanic underscores the problem in how zombies draw and maintain aggro. Plus, I want my zombies to be persistent, rather than spawning near players (a la DayZ mod).

The poster above me raises a good point. You either fight or run away. There's no middle option, stealth. Which creates the tension that DayZ was built upon. This stealth is nowhere to be found in the current Alpha. It needs to be addressed further on down the line.

Oh, don't see it as a complaint. I wanted more zombies and I enjoyed the challenge of it. I just wasn't expecting to chew through every spare piece of ammo outside of my ammo boxes.

My main beef is against the fact that I could see zombies popping into existence in the middle of fields. A few times as I was running, they literally spawned 10-20ft directly in front of me.

As I was turning circles shooting zombies, by the time I'd done a full revolution, another zombie would have appeared in a place where there was no zombie before.

Now unless the zombies have access to Star Trek like teleporters, I just don't like the fact that they appear out of nowhere.

Use a melee weapon

I played on experimental weeks prior to this update and could Run Around pretty much any city just using an axe, they keep coming for you but it's a difference between 1-2 zombies every 30 seconds instead of 5-8 when using a gun (which causes agro when they spawn if you use a gun)

The whole thing appears to have got out of hand. To get into a town to loot some ammo and food costs you more then you get out. eg. Last trip into Electro used over 180 rounds and was able to loot 3 soda's a can of beans and 10 rounds of the wrong ammo type.

On the up side very few bandits now they are all running from zombies as well.

In conclusion yes more zombies but keep it real and no teleporting in 10m away.

I want to play Dayz Standalone no Star Trek the Zombie Generation.

Quick fix please.

Zombie spawning is idiotic same bullshit that sucked in the mod.

Whatever happened to having all of the zombies in the map spawn when the server respawns.

But nope instead they reverted back to the stupid mod approach .

tip: don't shoot at the NWAF. every madafakn zombie at the airport and balota smells your blood. use the axe.

I shot 3 full clips on those bitches(1 bullit for each zombie). It was at the point of fkn annoying! there was no foooking end

I'm not at home right now, but that does sound a bit rediculous, but I would definitely say use an axe. In fact I don't see why you would use anything else. Spending 180 rounds of ammo on zombies is just dumb.

Finally the melee weapons are more important than guns for survival. Guns should only ever have been necessary against other players and although the zombie spawning needs tweaking, this is great imo. I only used stealth and a hatchet in the mod around zombies and it was managable (even with the one hit infecting zombies), so I guess playstyles need recalibrating. I'm sure detection will be fixed soon and then we can just avoid the buggers.

What good are melee weapons if the zombie somehow still hits you after its dead due to the jank.

Atleast you can play the game dude, i just lag, crash or desync when a zombie respawns I'm sure they will hotfix this soon... Atleast I hope so.

Wow, And at no point you though that maybe the zombies were respawning because you were shooting

At no point did you think to use a melee weapon

The fix is to be silent ....... Just WOW

But if you switch to melee weapon like an axe in Elektro to kill zombie then you are risking being killed by bandit whoruns with a gun....

i'm a little worried logging out now that the spawning rate is so high. need to go to higher ground somewhere to be safer. then again, for the first time in my DayZ SA history i saw a zombie run upstairs to the top level floor in a 3 story building. needless to say, i was shocked.

I lol'd at this  :beans:

Oh god yes. I was collecting as many weapons as i could for testing.

From being at the town, I gained some food and drink.

I used 2 rolls of bandages, 50 odd rounds of ammo, my UK assault vest was ruined, my ttsko jacket was ruined, my fnx45 was ruined, 3 magnum speedloaders ruined, 1911 ruined, both of the 1911 mags ruined that weird looking 22 pistol ruined, in my rush to fend off the zombies, i dropped my mosin and couldn't get back to it.

/cry

Use a melee weapon

Yes. I've learnt my lesson now. Until last night, my normal tactic was;  approach a town, kill the 7-8 zombies with my gun cos i have plenty of ammo (I really don't have to worry about running out). Loot, move on to the next town.

Atleast you can play the game dude, i just lag, crash or desync

I didn't want to come across to whiny because I enjoy the game and accept the bugs and failing as alpha stuff.

But yes, I was playing on a server with minimal people so i could re-explore to find the differences in the map.

But yes, this was awful. Every server I connected to was suffering huge amounts of lag. Zombies running on the spot, then hitting me invisibly a few times while I run in a direction I hoped that zombies weren't in, signature time outs, not being able to use items until the server unlagged, items not appearing straight away (as per patch notes) when dropped because of the lag. So yeah, that made life incredibly hard what with the huge amounts of zombies there too.

And no, it wasn't my internet connection - I have a 100Mb connection.

When there was no zombies people who wanted zombies complained.

Now when thre are zombies, it is turn for people who don't wanted the zombes to complain.

oh, and one thing i find very interesting with lots of zombies is that those smaller coastal towns now actually have much loot left, sine freshspawns have hard time looting them because of all the zombies. it takes some patience to lure zombies away first, then do a quick loot-run before they get back too close. awesome.

No. There's a difference between making it more challenging and just having zombies consta-spawn the minute they're killed.

It would be more of a challenge to have so 30 zombies spawned in a town. It's a whole different beast to have them pop into existence behind you and start beating you round the head when you just looked to that area and shot the zombies there. That's not a challenge..the game is cheating!
