Find a flaw in my logic, because this seems too simple.

Recommended Posts

No, I'm just trying to come up with a way to combat the plethora of complaints on these forums regarding server-hoppers and ghosters. Also, I get tired of seeing a hundred 2/40 and 1/30 servers, and maybe a handful of 40/40 servers. I've yet to see you make a suggestion.

Like what?

Ghosting should be impossible, given the plethora of complaints about the cooldown timer. If you're sticking around for over five minutes, without eyes on your target, and they manage to log back in behind you, the problem is YOU.

As for server hopping and other exploitative methods of loot-farming, I don't really see how it affects me. Low-skill players with high-value gear, roaming the woods of Chernarus, actually sound kind of good to me. It's like the airfields come to you. No need to limit people's options for online play, just because someone, somewhere is abusing the game. *Oh, won't someone think of the children!*

I think it's hilarious that you want the devs to limit people's options because you don't like seeing 1/40 servers on the server list. Seriously, get over yourself. Besides, low-pop servers aren't even a sign of server hopping unless you log into one and check the server list to see people come in and out. I've logged into a freshly restarted one and had me and the same guy as the only people on the server all the way till restart. I even managed to spot him in the supposedly "empty" north.

In summary: A noob with a scoped mosin is little threat to you, so server-hopping is a self-defeating problem. Anyone with the experience and skill necessary to really make good use of the milspec gear probably knows how un-fun and inefficient server-hopping is.

Actually auto assigning servers is counter productive because instead of having popular servers, you just have servers which won't end well as seen in other games (i.e. leaving a lot of servers as just dust-collectors). Also, people rent/want to play on private (clan/community) servers as well. How will a person get on his own server?

Another problem you mentioned yourself, queue, why should people have to wait for the server to free up instead of just finding a server that has enough slots for all your m8s?

And you are saying that because you don't like to play one way others should too. I could continue to crush your so called logic but well, it should be all self-explanatory if you just stop for a moment and think.

The game is meant to be played on full servers. It's not meant to be played skulking around a deserted server without any sense of danger whatsoever. The queue (with the current number of servers) would be non-existent as 90% of them are empty already. If people want to play on private hives, and they end up being introduced, that's fine. As long as they're separate, that would in no way impact the suggestion I have brought forth. It would only apply to public servers.

I fail to see your "logic-crushing". I don't really give a rat's ass what they decide to implement, as long as it works. It currently does not work. The game is an alpha, I understand that, but when one makes a suggestion about potentially improving the game, he's just trolled by a bunch of people who do nothing more than sit around the forums denouncing anything they don't agree with. There are no counter-arguments with any validity whatsoever. There is just constant attempted berating.

Ah well. C'est la vie.

You're stuck in a jail. You have three people surrounding you. One of them decides to ghost inside the wall. He logs back on your server, spawning inside the wall. Meanwhile, you are unable to leave the jail as you're still pinned down by the other two players. You can be shot from several places within the wall.

What do you do in that situation, dude? Seriously, I'd like to hear it. Do you run outside the jail? No, that'll get you killed. Do you wait inside the jail? No, that'll get you killed. Let me know.

The 290 second maximum timer is nothing in terms of ghosting. Most standoffs take longer than a few minutes. I've had some take as long as a couple of hours.

How many times has that even happened to you? And if three people cornered you in a building with automatic weapons, you probably would be fucked in real-life.

The part where they have to rush in and dislodge you is the unrealistic part.

EDIT: Besides, it doesn't matter because YOUR SOLUTION IS NOT THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THESE PROBLEMS. People have pointed out negative consequences as a result of your "solutions," but instead of trying to refine your ideas and make them better, instead you go "but THIS is also a way people exploit the game."

Lol, okay Rocket. Thanks for telling us how to play the game.

In reality, the "right" way to play the game is the way that is fun for you, that doesn't ruin it for others. That's pretty universal...

And right now, we're testing an alpha, so the "right" way to play the game is a variety of playstyles, with a variety of equipment. You trying to hammer out a standard meta-game is the part that's wrong.

You obviously haven't read the thread. Fuck.

I've integrated two points of constructive criticism into my idea. The rest of the thread is people just flaming. Show me which post I have neglected to incorporate, and I'll think of a workaround.

EDIT: I could quote many times where ghosting was possible since the inception of the timer. If you're pinned down in any area for more than ten minutes, ghosting is plausible. Fucking tryhards. LOL GHOSTING IS A NON-ISSUE IF YOU GET GHOSTED YOU'RE BAD. Yeah, maybe if there's only one guy and he spawns in right behind you.

You're using a very loose logic, there. Just because you "can" currently run around and gear up on a low population server doesn't mean it's working as intended. That's the next best thing to server hopping.

Centralised servers are the stupidest thing the developers could do, no offence. It removes any ability to kick a hacker that the anti-hack isn't detecting, kick Mic spammers, create your own rules on your own server (no kos servers etc.), and change settings on your own server.

Not to mention that it would destroy any sense of community within the game because you can't join a server where you know people and have to do that "party" bullshit.

The only thing I can is if the developers want to lose half the people that play Day z then centralized are the way to go.

Those are some crazy statistics, dude! This is a survival game. If people leave DayZ because it's too hard, good riddance.

I requested this thread be closed. Hopefully they extend the server timer to an hour (as per a suggestion made here), then you guys can server hop once per hour and be merry.
