Bush-Plane on pontoons and guide gear.

Recommended Posts

Something that I don't remember seeing in any of the mods was a bush plane on pontoons capable of landing on water. Forgive me if it does exist and I missed it but the concept seems like it would fit. There a ton of hunting guides in Alaska that use these aircraft and it seems conceivable that one of these planes could make the trip over from Alaska for use alo g the coast line. Furthermore these guides are known for carrying a few types of firearms including short barreled lever-action rifles chambered to 45-70 known as "guide guns" and large bore revolvers such as .500 and even 45-70 in some cases to protect themselves from bears. My thought was one of these planes spawning per server with a guide gun and revolver in the gear.

Fair enough, was just thinking of it and thought I would throw it out there.

Nonetheless it was interesting to read ;)

Chernarus+ is gonna be huge, it should have planes.

You will probably be able to build runways and bases.

[a] no Alaskan bush pilot is going to randomly fly 4,500 miles to Chernarus

powerful bolt guns are far, far more common than .45-70s

[c] shotguns with slugs are also more common than .45-70s

[d] .44 will always outnumber .500

I think bush/light planes would fit but chernarus does not seem like a place to have hunting guides in my own opinion.

Well, I think its safe to say that this idea has been met with less than positive sentiment.

You would have done better to drop the "Alaska" part and just said "bush plane" and "dangerous game rifle".

I would agree with Gews. It just pops that image into the brain of Alaska and Chernarus, which don't really mix to well. (IMO)

this is good idea and it is more realistic than helis, helis would be rare in real life apocalypse than civilian planes cuz almost every civilian can get plane if he wants to and those arent so hard to fix than helis irl

Just a single prop airplane on pontoons was all I was thinking. Runways are somewhat limited and the ones that do exist are a tad on the dangerous side because of their location.

That's the nice thing about smaller airplanes, they would not be as hard to customize compared to larger ones or helicopters. For example putting floats on one that you find would not be impossible.

I would love to see some changes to aircraft in the standalone if they are implemented. First you should only be able to refuel them at airstrips or with military fuel trucks. Aircraft don't use standard gasoline you get out the pumps at 7/11. They take aviation fuel. Second, with the exception of maybe one huey or Blackhawk per server I'd see military aircraft scrapped. Anyone that's ever worked on them knows that even in optimal conditions they're near impossible to keep from breaking, let alone in a zombie apocalypse where replacement parts aren't an option. I would love to see aircraft restricted to a couple small aircraft like bush planes and crop dusters, maybe a gyrocopter, and MAYBE one military aircraft per server. The last of which should be treated as a very VERY rare commodity. Only 3 or 4 aircraft per server.

I really like the idea for hard to find fuel, though some planes like the one I suggested uses a two stroke engine, which can use regular gas as long as its a high octane gas. I would also love to see ultraligh aircraft and a way to trailer them, such as removal of wings/tail section.

I really like this idea , it's got a real "survivor" feel to it . Instead of the military feel a helicopter gives (IMO ) the water plane makes a more civilian approach to the game , it's much slower and most likely not mounted with weapons so it won't be overpowered .

There needs to only be 2-4 Max per server depending on the server cap I guess , just so they're not everywhere , and if they could be camouflaged that's even better ;).

Only if you can paint this on the front of the plane. lol

Most "Jet fuel" is actually really common.  In the Army, HMMWVs, generators, and mostly every other engine we have runs off of JP-8, or "Jet Propellant 8."  Just so happens, that JP-8 can be used as a diesel alternative.  You could just centralize military/air vehicles around diesel and civilian vehicles (cars, trucks, boats, etc.) around normal gasoline (unleaded, of course.  Wouldn't want any brain tumors!)  Occasionally, you run into stuff that doesn't use JP-8 in the military.  I work on a UAV system (drones, if you don't know the acronym...) that requires AVGAS (100LL or 100 Low-lead) which is a high-octane leaded fuel.  It's not the airframe that I work on, but that's what the Predator uses, too.  maybe, if they do want to add in diesel and JP-8, they could make it where diesel simply runs rougher than JP-8 (since it isn't as refined) and causes faster deterioration.  Maybe you could run a mix of diesel with a little JP-8 thrown into it in diesel vehicles.  They would run a little hotter, but would crank out a little more power.

I, personally, am a big fan of adding in a bush plane.  I had been thinking about it for a long time, but never thought to make a thread on it.  Fun fact:  most pontoon systems also have wheels.  Would be an awesome addition.  Maybe have it where they have a low top speed so that they are scaled to the environment.  Not sluggish, just low enough where you don't traverse Chernarus in thirty seconds and so that you stay in an on-ground player's FOV for a good while.  Also, it would require some dynamic sound generation if you wanna go for real realism.  Sounds would fill valleys at levels much louder than a plain.  Also, sound would sound like it was coming somewhere behind the aircraft at higher speeds and altitudes.

Thirdthorpe made an excellent point on the required maintenance of military vehicles.  HMMWVs are NOTORIOUS for breaking without ever being used.  Military equipment is so chock-full of "features" that they are actually really fragile instruments.  Like he said, no than one functional military helicopter.  Preferably, no military airplanes.  Maybe have it so that there are a lot of broken down helicopters that could potentially be repaired, but only enough parts to get one going and to maintain it a little.puddle jumpers could have 2 on map that are functional.  Maybe add a diving feature to swim down to crashed planes/boats to retrieve gear?  Puddle jumpers should also come loot spawns for first aid kits, flare guns, map fragments (or GPSes), survival kits (knives, MREs, fire starting gear, pocket saw, etc.)  For weapons, I feel they should be fairly limited.  Maybe a revolver or a hunting rifle (could be a perfect place to spawn in a lever-action rifle!  Such an aircraft attracts a certain kind of person, after all).

Also, shark teeth would be phenomenal.  It's kind of a staple of aviation.  I painted one on one of our birds my last deployment.  I would upload a pic, but the local internet is no seshu...

While I love me some bush planes, this map is WAY too small for airplanes. The only place they could land on floats would be the ocean, and most bush planes small enough to possibly fit on the tiny Chernarus map generally aren't equipped with amphibian floats (i.e. floats with retractable wheels). Ultralights would make more sense, but even those would fly clear across the map in a few minutes.

You would be surprised, even small ultralight aircraft can have floats with retractable wheels
