Finding Mosin Snipers

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a way to fight back against these guys, but I don't get it.  Before I approach somewhere like the airstrip, I'll carefully scan the surrounding hills and bushes, seems clear enough but seems like it never is.  When dealing with long range snipers, are you pretty much at their mercy or is there some way to fight back.

If you have an idea where they may be you can try and flank around their area and kill them. If you're not sure either stay properly hidden and spring out and zig zag to the closest building (if you want to risk it and it's not too far), or just leave. Just make sure you're never standing still.

^this is what I would do anyway.

Most 'bandit' snipers can't shoot a moving target so will only engage you when stationary or moving in a straight line.

Try being really unpredictable in your movements, stay in as much cover as possible and only stop to pick up crap you want, if it doesn't look like what you want don't waste time standing near it.

Each time they fire and miss is another clue as to their location helping you evade them further and also attracting others to the gunfire.

Near the buildings in the airfield you're also going to be buried under server hopper guano so you just want to be on really high alert.

Take cover, don't run in a straight line, LISTEN. However, if all you're hearing is the bullets whizzing past you, chances are they are WAY far away. Mosins have a big range with an LRS. Be careful in buildings with windows. I'm much more likely to catch a Mosin sniper if they're shooting at someone else, cause then I can follow the gunshots and flank them. Most often, like you pointed out OP by saying you scan the high ground, they usually are on the high ground - only sometimes it's much higher and farther away than you think.

There isn't a cut and dry strategy for taking out snipers, at least that I know. Good luck.

NONE of that advice matters if you have your object setting on low or very low.. players will not render beyond 3-400m tops.

So place your OBJECT setting on NORMAL or higher.. and then apply tactics.

Actually joining high-pop servers and scouring the fields outside any of the airfields is a lot of fun. Very profitable.

this.

also, join an empty server and think "if i was a sniper in this area, where would i go?"

go there. learn the area and how to approach it when hostiles are in the area.

most sniper face their target area and never check their surroundings once they camp out.

many have fallen to an axe from behind.

what P-C said...  know the terrian.

Also, you need to know that there are 2 types of "snipers"

The COD type newbs who will hide in a bush or tree near treeline with a hight advantage.  Half these guys can't shoot and most act like sharpshooters, not snipers.  They tend to put lots of rounds down range from 400-700m.  They are easy to find and easier to avoid.  If you are having trouble with these, you need to learn how to/where to move.

The real danger is true snipers.  These are the players who will not be where you expect.  They do not try to cover a large area, but rather set up with a small target area.  they do not take a shot they can not make.  You will almost never find them on a hill or at the tree line.  They will never fire more then twice at a target.  And they always have an exit route planned out.  These are the players you need to worry about, however, even they are not too hard to find if you know they are out there.  Look for slightly elevated ground with rocks/bushes/trees that has a hill next to it that they could quickly move behind.  Look 50-100m into the woods for rocks/bushes/pines.  Look for buildings with doors that give LOS down long stretches of roads.

The best advice tho, is do not play on 3pp servers unless you know how to counter both the above player type.  3PP gives them the advantage.

From some videos I've watched with true long range snipers, simply count your blessings upon a safe session. These people can be so damn far away and still make contact. You would never see or sneak up on them unless it was happenstance. Never activity looking will allow you to detect them before they spot you.

Just never stand still because with the general lag and bit of rubberbanding and of course desync it is very hard to hit you from more than 400 m away. crouch inside buildings when looting so nobody can shoot you through the window while standing still to loot....

The way I find them is to run down airfield-runways at full speed till I hear shots. Then I back off and approach the area the shots came from from the back..

I disagree.

That recoiless rifle wont do shit to a good sniper but provide another target and since that weapon is not in game the point stands. Also this is not my opinion but a statement made by soldiers in the field.

And no i wont sit at top of hill waiting for easy targets, thats too boring. Im a survivor and play like one
