Persistent Storage Ideas?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if any of you out there have any good ideas when it comes to storage. This is NOT a thread to share your viewpoint on whether you think they should add storage or not. It is a thread for ideas for storage objects.

I was trying to think about some sort of storage that includes the existing game mechanics, whether it be persistent or temporary.

I thought, why not a cardboard box?

Say you're walking around and you find one of these:

and then find this:

You could lay the cardboard on the ground where you would want to place the constructed box. Place duct tape in hand and build this:

Have it hold as many things as the smaller sports backpack.

But here's the catch. Like in reality, cardboard that gets wet, can be destroyed over time. So make the rain getting things wet be applied to these storage containers as well. Over time they deteriorate into:

After they are in a "ruined" state, they can disappear on server restart? Once in a ruined state, you can take the existing items in them, out of the container, but can no longer place items in them? OR maybe they will only disappear on restart if 10% or less of the space within the container is occupied? I'm not sure here, but these are some ideas.

I'm hoping this thread sparks some of your own ideas.  :)

I do like the suitcase idea. It obviously wouldn't hold a lot, but I suppose it would be better than nothing.

I would think that realistically, within the capabilities of the game engine, you would want to try to have something you have to build so that a million suitcases aren't spawning and the hive has to keep track of an area with a million "placed" said suitcases though.

A cardboard box would not be weather proof so it's only good for storing stuff inside buildings. We already have a couple of wooden boxes in the mod why not add those, too? Or even the steel ammo boxes, they are small but are good for storing cans.

i would support this because then maybe people would have a reason to pick up duct tape.

I think fridges, closets and so on that the game world has could be persistent storage places.

Duct tape works. I use it IRL to gag my wife when we play so I don't have to endure her constant barrage of linguistic torture.

"How much more running?"

"I want to shoot someone."

"I'm bored."

"OMG I heard a noise. OMG I heard a noise. OMG I heard a noise."

"Why am I playing this game? My Farmville is suffering because of you."

"I want a divorce."

I definetely go for the grave.

A hidden supply with a simple cross on it.

All you need is:

- sticks

- a shovel.
