napalmdog 71 Posted March 12, 2014 I particularly had a fondness for Namalsk in the mod days of DayZ. The wind, the noises of children, the bloodsucker, etc. I am really hoping that DayZ grabs onto some of these elements, if even only the strange shambling zombies. I can imagine creatures that prefer dark places, Zombie bears, limbless zombies, zombies that are spotters that simply screech to alert every zombie within 500 meters. What horror distracting elements would you like to see in game?
Guest Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Just some authentic sounds, wich would appear while walkin thru different places. singing of the wind thru doors, windows, tree, watersidesleafage rustleif it's night and lights work, maybe some sound of electricityanimal noisescreepy bloodsucker noisesmaybe randomly a radio in a house just start playin just nice ambient sounds, if there is nothing can make a sound, no sounds should appear. DayZ is not that kind of horror game imo. And stuff won't just happen randomly unless it's affected by nature.

I'm happy things like that will never happen in this game.I'd like to see maybe zombies in houses or bushes jump out and scare the fook out of us. Offtopic@EnforcerWasn't Uranus renamed in 2026 to Urektum? Source:Urectum (formerly Uranus) is a gas giant in the solar system. The planet's former name, Uranus, was often of the cause of much laughter in the immature English speaking world, where its name could be interpreted as "your anus". However, by 2620, scientists finally got tired of that "stupid joke", so they renamed Uranus to Urectum, believing the revised name to be much less funny. charliepow 100 Posted March 12, 2014 Have you ever played the current experimental build at night? Me and a friend we scared out of our minds. I had a headtorch and he had a handheld one, and we were trying to loot one of the north-east towns and Zeds were coming from all directions. He was spotting them with his torch and I'd attempt to shoot them before they got to us. In a panic I accidentally shot him and broke his arm but we eventually found morphine in the hospital. Crazy experience, keen to do it again.
TIC 1050 Posted March 12, 2014 I'd like to hear the sounds for the night ambiance being greatly improved. Something I'd like to hear is crickets and owls while having a campfire and rustling in bushes to keep you on edge.
Jamz 253 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Definitely more ambient noises, they're not bad at the moment but distant howling and gunshots perhaps. Even explosions, occasionally, very far away. They should only be occasional though otherwise they become too familiar. While we're at it, more static corpses - draped over tables in houses, in car wrecks etc. Signs of what happened. Guest Posted March 12, 2014 Howling from a wulf, yeh - gunshots from player, yeh - explosions from players smackin down a gas-station, HELL YEH! - random ambient not produced by nature/zeds/animals/players - HELL NO! I know exactly what some guys mean and lookin for (the ideas r good but imho like a fish out of the water), c'mon, i mean this aint a horrorflick or shocker/horrorgame. I'm pretty sure there several ways to fill the ambientsound with stuff that is creepy on his own way and stay as realistic as possible. something like, dynamic doors wich get openend/closed by the wind and make some squeak/creak/slamming sounds. ld-airgrafix 403 Posted March 12, 2014 Sounds are some way off atm, zombie growls without a zombie anywhere near, gates closing/opening sound goes of for no reason. Guns reload sound occurs for no reason.
Munson_fry (DayZ) 312 Posted March 12, 2014 we have more horror than i can handle. those creepy rabbit sounds keep me up all night!

Some of those corpses need to stand up too and start shambling after you.
cav_guy 62 Posted March 12, 2014 Sounds are some way off atm, zombie growls without a zombie anywhere near, gates closing/opening sound goes of for no reason. Guns reload sound occurs for no reason. They really need to fix the gate sounds. They scared the hell out of me the first couple of times I heard them. Now they're just part of the background noise - sad. They also need to add door opening and closing sounds. That would ratchet up the tension real quick if you thought you were alone in a town.
Sebidee 167 Posted March 12, 2014 I think there should be more dead bodies, or crashed cars, or blood all over the place. There could even be little "stories" with a half rotted body and a note on the wall written in blood. Just things like that. I really think the way that the zombies sound is quite scary, so maybe if they get the sound effects right that could help.
napalmdog 71 Posted March 12, 2014 I would like to see more "Humans don't move like that!" animations on the zombies, just to make the panic higher.

minime1000 78 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Sounds have never been BI's strong point but I hope they step their game up with DayZ and ambient sound effects. It is seriously lacking atmosphere. Edited March 12, 2014 by myshl0ng

napalmdog 71 Posted March 13, 2014 I'm a sick individual. I like the idea of a player walking into the woods, a bright light and noise envelopes them and they find themselves in the woods in another part of maps miles away. ;)

napalmdog 71 Posted March 14, 2014 With no clothes on, surrounded by inside out cows? Actually if there was a way to teleport the player i some subtle fashion without him being aware, that would be the best! Something like that Amnesia/Glitch thing from the Matrix. That would be awesome!
o5pr3y (DayZ) 77 Posted March 14, 2014 The teleporting idea reminds me a lot of STALKER. As much as I love how in depth and creative the lore was in that game, I don't think it would fit in Day Z.This one is too much more ground in reality, and too practical. Of course I could be wrong if it turns out Aliens and radiation caused teh zombie outbreak, in which case bring on the bizarre!!

Something like that Amnesia/Glitch thing from the Matrix. That would be awesome! That might be quite cool if they added a Namalsk map with Object All. Even some crazy stuff around Green Mountain might be quite effective, make the player ask more questions!
Nibashe 52 Posted March 14, 2014 I WANT TO HEAR THE SOUND OF TWO OBESE PEOPLE HAVING SEX! THE HORROR! Seriously though, I would love some eerie music, sound effects... Indeed, the music from the movie insidious is amazing. The sound in a game makes up for more than half of the game. I look forward to see what the game has in store for us.
