Robbed during logout timer, alive but very sad :(

Recommended Posts

RESOLVED: No robbery apparently, only glitchies! I feel less violated now.

Sometimes gear will randomly disappear when you log off, it's happened to me 2 times before (on the stable). Both times, it occurred when I had 4 books placed inside my hoodie, and the same items disappeared: pants, shoes, backpack. My gun (and the ammo in it)/melee/shirt/helmet/gloves all stayed, except the bottom right book in the hoodie. Both times, I logged off of a low population server in the middle of nowhere, and you have to be handcuffed/unconcious/dead to be looted, none of which I was (healthy status).

First, some images.

After logging in:

I had logged out in a pine tree far away from a town (and the coast), and yet still, someone managed to come across my helpless character before the timer went off and rob them of their shoes, gloves, backpack with supplies, etc. Pretty much whatever they could grab before my char logged. I had a sawn off I had just made in that backpack, as well as some cereal I had just found (had only been playing on this spawn for a little over an hour). I would prefer if I had came back to a restarted char, but no, the rotten whoreson that robbed me was smart and knew not to kill me so as not to ruin anything.

Does everyone else think this kind of thing is okay? I mean, should we really be forced to run forever to outside the map or some crap just to be able to logout safely? The timer itself seems like its just to cater to the KoS brats so they can corner people who would rather avoid other players, as ghosting and the like could easily be combated through long ass server waits if you try to jump.

Help me understand why this is okay.

EDIT: Yes yes, I know the shirt is probably what got me, but its all I could find :'(

EDIt2L: If you're the guy that robbed me, bravo. I hate you ;-;. And if you're the same guy I helped hours earlier by killing a zombie when you had a gun and no ammo and no melee weapon, SHAME! SHAME ON YOU! Thanks for leaving me my pristine awesomepants, but I bet you woulda taken it anyway if you had the time you thief!

You know...never ever get attached to your gear - especially on experimental severs.

You should be happy you only got robbed, 99% would kill you insta.

I feel like we really need a storycorner up in here.

Hell yes its ok, in fact i would relish the opportunity to pull that off myself.

A squadmate and I had a similar situation fall into our laps the other day, where we found a geared guy prone and afk in, of all places, the top of the ATC at balota. Would it have been me that came upon him first, I would have popped him in the grape and been done with it, but my associate did, and had him cuffed before I got upstairs.

Being that we were both geared ourselves, we really didn't want anything he had, but we did want to ruin it for him when he came back from his piss break or whatever- so my partner tried taking the guys M4. Unbeknownst to him, not only did he take the afk dudes M4, but ended up swapping his own fully magpul-kitted M4. It took him a couple of minutes to realize the error, but he finally dropped afk dudes M4 and took his own back from the guy.

About 2 more minutes pass, AFK guy still shows no sign of being around- and the dreaded full yellow chain appears- immediately followed by a reset. When we logged back in, my partner found out that, much to his chagrin, he spawned in with afk dudes plain jane M4, most likely gifting his fully kitted M4 to afk guy upon his respawn.

So yeah, it's definitely a cool thing to do- and sometimes it even works out in your favor. Just be glad you didn't get dead.

Dang... That sucks! And anyway, it's to combat combat logging. Just somethin' y'gotta deal with. (PROTIP: Try slightly damaging your shirt. It breaks up the color!)

Gear attachment? lol. Did you not read where I said I'd rather come back to a restarted char?

I just think the 30 seconds of a char being in game after logout is just awful, especially without anything like safe zones.

Why are you complaining? You have a mosin on an experimental server! Are you... (Experi)MENTAL???

Ok... Your first posts are not impressing me.

If safe zones were added, people would camp inside of these to avoid KoS. Others would camp the outside and shoot people who come and go.

Play the game, don't complain.

I would've rather ended up dead rather than gear up a pos thief, just got a bit lucky as a fresh spawn and found quite a few guns but no ammo and various other gear at Rify. Nothing to get upset over other than the fact that this is a thing.

By safe zone I pretty much mean a portable tent, something that is specifically for logging out quickly in (and with some kind of restrictions so you can't combat log with it), not necessarily a player hub or anything. Also how can I play the game when I'll just get robbed/killed when I log off, totally helpless to combat it? I guess server hopping low pop servers to gear up until they fix that? Its the same concept as robbing logged out players.

As much as I hate it, I understand KoS and robbing. This just is bad design that caters to neandertals that get a kick out of KoS, and smart little guys like the person who robbed me.

Are they more rare in experimental? Found it in the top floor of a piano house I believe, don't know if they dropped there in stable.

I think the best thing to do is learn from your mistakes, log out in a more secure location and wait at least 1 min before you log out. Just sit there for 1 min first at least. Now if you have to AFK or log out quickly, then you just deal with those consequences when you get back. I have to do it all the time for my baby or the phone or front door, so I can more than understand. Ive had my losses on the mods many times from it.

I did, but if your not attached to your gear, why would u bother about add safezones or even get the timer removed?

And if it's about the logtimer, y not usin the searchfunction and take a close look at the other 15+ threads with more then 8 pages we got about?

Heh! If you guys are ok with looting people while they are logging out as it's just part of the game then you shouldn't have problems with any other aspect of it either like combat logging.

Or server hopping. Or ghosting. Its within design parameters, why not?

Because its nice to feel like you're progressing, transient as it is.

And about not necroing other threads that have nothing in common with this one other than the fact that it said 'logout timer' in the tags? yeah. F that.

I really was in a secure location, I just didn't have someone watching my back I guess. Other than the guy who got me. I can understand getting got while afk, but logging out in a pine tree in the middle of the wilderness is not a 'more secure location' in this game? Crapola.

You shouldn't use terms you'r not aware of, posting in a 3 old day thread has nothing to do with necroing those. Unless they'r totally useless, instead you'r opening another kinda useless thread just to tell your story.

Was this before the timer was implemented? This explains everything then. I figured you could just walk up to a person and loot them. Good to know the mysterious robber guy was only in my head!  :beans:

Why wouldn't someone else tell me you have to be under special conditions to be looted instead of telling me to deal!?

Actually, once it happened before the update, and I figured it had been fixed and not mentioned in the patch notes due to being such a trivial and unknown glitch, but after the logout timer update I found and put 4 New Testaments in my hoodie (you know, just to be silly) and what do you know, my items disappeared! Either really odd coincidence or I've just gotten unlucky.

You can also be looted if you're knocked onto the ground by a melee weapon, but if that were the case they'd have to have ruined your Motorcycle Helmet with multiple melee hits first, and you'd have logged in unconscious after that most likely. So yeah, probably lost your items due to a glitch.

Stay on topic please.

I'd imagine you're talking to me and Guppy? You don't like my absolutely marvelous otter picture? ;3

Just kidding, sorry though.

I have lost random bits of gear before on logout.  Even in a truly safe place - not a low-pop server, but in the middle of a field.  I was away off somewhere, found a little thicket out in the middle of a bare field.  Ran out from the closest cover, more than thirty seconds away from the bushes - so, once I scanned the area, it was clear that there was nobody who could get to me inside the 30 second timer.  Logged out, and when I logged back in random stuff was missing - my weapons were fine, but I was missing a couple cans of sardines - not the easily opened tuna.  A badly damaged protector case was gone - a bag of rice and some spare magazines; but the pristine protector case was there.  If somebody had somehow managed to sneak across the field - I had been in the bush a couple of minutes, doing inventory maintenance, drinking a soda, and so on, before I scanned the area again and logged out - they certainly would have taken other things.

Definitely a bug, but a minor one at this point.
