Is ts thread derailed? Or still on topic?

I mean, I really can't tell any more...

Okay, so, what do you think of... Great, I don't know what to speak off to continue the thread and I already gave my replies. Does anybody have any questions pertaining to Chernarus's connection to Russia or something? Also, no one answered to me back there. Who said Russia instead of Chernarus? My beans are on streamers.  :beans:

Chernarus is a nice place with a decent backstory.

Why people don't give 2 shits about the story i'll never know. It's like playing the campaign in a singeplayer game and just skipping all the cut scenes and just blazing through the game to play the set pieces. That's boring. A good game will always have a good story, something to flesh out the scenario you are in, to make you have some sort of investment in it.  It's like reading a book.

I think that the assumption probably came from the fact that the signs are all Russian/Cryllic so some people believe this is Russia.

Hello there

I often lazily refer to Chernarus Russian in the same way people use Tannoy or Xerox (or dare I say it mag/clip)

I do think of Chernarus as being a previous part of the USSR, correctly or incorrectly.

I also think of it as a fictional place and unto itself not  necessarily in the same place as it is in the real world.

Yeah, that's a good probability. It could be people that jump in the SA without playing the mod or Arma 2/3

I too think that Chernarus was part of the USSR as to the graffiti on building walls and the events that has happened on Arma 2 in the campaign over the region.

Wales have both...

ARAF is slow.

Nope, Wales has roadsigns in English, and in the ruins of a face-smashed keyboard

Seriously, I am of Welsh descent, love it's history and its people, and can actually speak a few words of Welsh. Never in public, though, otherwise people would think I;m having a stroke at 21. : P

Chernogorsk, zelenogorsk plus others are all russian towns, some belong to belarus, but most are set in russia. Also there is no sea in chernaurus but a river. Your links are based on the game, im talking real life

Also to add towns arent positioned correctly either they seem to be randomly picked and positioned along a coastline which doesnt exist in real life. So yes its set in russia but the map is fictional

Then why did you say that the map itself is set in Russia? WTF. The map itself is a fictional country, entirely independent from Russia although it used to be part of the USSR.

I do not consider the Arma history. I could care less about that stuff.

If we are talking Russian or Czech, the Czech Rep. is not a post-soviet state. Its is Slavic, that has had some relations with Russia over the many years. At one point they were all part of the Warsaw pact, but never were they under Soviet control or occupation.

There is an underlying history of tension between Czechs and Russians that has mostly dissolved in current days, but many years ago a Russian would have been quite offended to be confused with a Czech and vice versa.

But thats it, its a fictional post soviet country, not Russia or Czech ;) So there no reason to start talking about this.

You might not care about the history from Arma II, but BI does, in fact almost all they're games are tyed into the same timeline, have a look at it, its very facinating.

It does matter and thats the story behind Chernarus.

Heres the wiki about Chernarus

First line says:

Chernarus is a fictional post-Soviet country, accurately recreated from geographical data of real landscape.

Guys, it doesn't take a freaking scientist to google the ArmA2 site. Namely the factions section. ;)

The proud people of Chernarus were divided by the civil war and its consequences. A majority of Chernarussian citizens are of Chernarussian nationality, with their own language and culture. There is also an ethnic Russian minority living mainly in the northern territories, where Russian is the second official language. People are also divided by their political alignments and sympathies.

That's probably why there is the connection to Russia and a mix of Russian and Czech (the first Chernarussian language) everywhere.

So yes its set in russia but the map is fictional

Only partially. It's a fictional mix of "what-if" country featuring czechs and russians.

I'd like for it to be extended to include Novigrad one day but that's a pipe dream and a half.

Personally I was more excited when Rocket mentioned his wish, to one day include brand new map made for DayZ specifically, which would be more in western style (not cowboys, but either western Europe or USA).

I would love to see map set in USA, something akin to what they show in Walking Dead. You know, smaller towns not far away from highway, maybe with one bigger city, far away from spawn locations.

Just my thoughts.

You mean the locations or language?

If you spoke about the latter, then it's just some russian words written in the normal alphabet from the cyrillic, definitely not czech (I am czech. :P )

Never been to them so don't care.  Call me ignorant if it makes you feel better.

You learn something new every day.

I'd call you "common" not ignorant

Are you serious? Are you going to derail the thread and start another flame war? The mods have warned all of us on that one other thread, you know?

ON-TOPIC:

Wasn't there something called the ChernaRussian Movement or something? There's even a beret of it on DayZ.

-EDIT-

Yeah, here it is.

Chernarussian Movement of the Red Star

https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Chernarussian_Movement_of_the_Red_Star

They are a rebel group that wanted to reestablish communism on Chernarus in Arma 2.

To be as impartial as possible (I was bickering with him too in the thread you mentioned) it's really silly to have him say "I'm just going to call it Russia" and get the response that such an attitude helped contribute to things like ethnic warfare and genoice.

When I say "I'm hungry", it'd be quite unreasonable for someone to then berate me for casually saying that when so many have died from famine.
