Lore suggestion: parasite instead of virus

Recommended Posts

Basically, I dont think a virus is capable of changing humans to basically zombies (infected), just as we have them in DayZ. Actually, there is are a few parasites capable of changing the way, how their "host" works. it would be a lot more realistic if one of these parasites would have evovled to attack humans, and because humans were never confronted with this kind of parasite they would have lost control over it. So we survivors arent immune, we just had the luck we didnt get those parasites jet, but we have to see we cover every body opening as fast as possible so we dont get infected. That is why gasmasks, helmets and army clothes are important, same as eating food we cooked or is in closed containers, as they cant get in there.

In a way a parasite and a virus are similar..it's just the difference in size.

And a parasite sounds so Goa'Uldish.

Even better, the parasite could have been spread by rabbits, it would make the game more unique and realistic, you could make a cool intro with the lore and actual scientific facts about these "animals.

First parasite incident, a hunter was infected while gutting rabbits he had caught...

First look the "lore" of Arma2.

Chernarus Defense Forces vs Red Star guerrillas; add UN forces into the mix, to keep peace ( not to control the outbreak ).

Someone, somewhere release the virus.

I'm not 100% sold on the idea: a/ because the lore seems so nebulous and undefined, & b/ as parasitism usually involves some kind of symbiotic relationship between parasite and host (whilst being skewed in the parasite's favor) - which i don't really see making sense as regards zombies/infected. however, viruses infect all forms of life, can cross inter-species barriers, and (to my mind at least) seems like a more 'logical' reason for any type of outbreak scenario.

A virus is definitely capable of causing an infection capable of reducing brain function to a feral state = high levels of aggression and the host seeking basic survival needs (eg: eating)

A virus also makes more sense because of its ability to spread fast, incubate over time and mutate making it harder to lock down and quarantine then a parasite
