HarrisKevyn 14 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Posted this on another forum, and a few people seemed to generally like the idea, so im creating a discussion on the paticular subject."What if every single time you respawned, You got a different set of clothing to work with? You know, for the hardcore role players.Say they also added in a perk system that randomized upon death, like blood. You would respawn and say "oh look, i must have been a mechanic/police officer/dockworker/etc." They would then have perks directly tied to that character until it died.Anyway, just a rambling thought. Reguardless, i would love to see more clothes diectly pulled from jobs and workforces, rather than just have the worlds largest hoodiefest."Wondered what any more of you might think. Would you like to see this implemented on a Hardcore Server, or no? And as always, suggestions and imput are welcome. DemonGroover 8836 Posted March 6, 2014 Hopefully there are clothes like that we can find - but i think the idea is to spawn as nothing and you make up your own story.
HarrisKevyn 14 Posted March 6, 2014 I Was thinking mostly back to the roots of Old School D&D, where you had a backround profession you rolled for that didnt play a huge role unless you wanted it to. Again, not something for everyone, but could be something interesting for the Hardcore servers if they wanted it.
mgc 92 Posted March 6, 2014 Could be fun if well balanced. ""They would then have perks directly tied to that character""What kind of perks?
Zjasuu 337 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Then everyone would jump off a building until they get the military general with an M4. /Edit: Also, perks...perks, really? Edited March 6, 2014 by Zjasuu
tors 5 Posted March 6, 2014 Hopefully there are clothes like that we can find - but i think the idea is to spawn as nothing and you make up your own story. Wasn't there talk at some vague point (can't remember when exactly) that spawn locations would eventually be altered/changed from the (currently) default coast setting?; so as to further facilitate the 'story' telling process - for example, spawning inside that plane wreak at the international hotel, or some abandoned hospital facility in the northern interior, etcThen again, I've heard that Mr. Hall likes the idea of strictly spawning in the coastal regions, so i'm not sure if such a thing will be implemented? Also; as regards the original post re; clothes - i don't think anyone would mind having varied/random clothing items at spawn: as long as they all have fairly useless traits/attributes & are only cosmetic variations on the theme of low tier character gear, thus forcing the starting player into getting superior clothing as well as obtaining food and drink. The starting conditions for any new dayz character should always be harsh (in my opinion).
Lumeria 27 Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) I have no issues with this as long as:1. There should be no military, police or any other class which can be armed with a gun. If there must be this class, there guns should not be loaded or they have a melee weapon of some description. It would suck if you could spawn with a loaded gun, so you could just shoot people after spawning, and also be unfair to those who worked for their guns.2. The perks should be reasonable. There should be no over powered perks which give an unfair advantage. I have no problem with a chef cooking meals less likely to burn or to undercooked food, but a chef never burning or under cooking food is not a good idea.3. As someone above suggested, the clothes should be found anywhere.4. It should be an option for servers to turn off or on if they choose. Some people would really dislike this idea, so giving people he option to avoid it would be a good thing. Edited March 6, 2014 by Lumeria
DemonGroover 8836 Posted March 6, 2014 I think spawning on the coast is now so intrinsically DayZ that it wouldn't seem the same otherwise. I suppose random clothes are OK as long as they don't give an advantage.
janol 65 Posted March 6, 2014 Hopefully there are clothes like that we can find - but i think the idea is to spawn as nothing and you make up your own story. Personally, I'd love the idea of spawning as random type of chernarussian, with appropriate clothing and some gear. Say, with a medikit, morphine and a doctor's coat, for example. Or in farmer's clothing with a shovel and a sack. Policeman with a flashlight, a pistol and two or three bullets. And so on. That would make plenty of sense. Were did the guy come from? What he did before? This does not restrict in any way "your own story" aspect. Its a new beginning after all. What you were before the apocalypse is gone. Currently everyone just spawns as some kind of light geared generic survivalist. How is that better? But as for perks, I would have to say no, and I don't think that will be happening. But randomized starting gear drawn from the characters previous life would be super cool.
liquidcactus 719 Posted March 6, 2014 God damn it, I just want to see a business suit to role play as slender in the forest at night while you stalk a person that's using a torch A how about a damn priest outfit, Imagine how much you would cream finding some weirdo role playing as a priest inside a church in a small town and gives refuge to those seeking. THAT WOULD BE OFF THE CHAIN BABY, COME ON SAY IT WITH ME
