So how does the timer trump server hopping?

  1. 1. Do you feel the timer prevents server hopping?

It doesn't.

It just adds another level of inconvenience to those who choose to play the game properly.

Every airfield/military base you get to is always looted, while the towns surrounding these locations remain untouched. If you connect to a server and get kicked by an admin, you now have to wait 170 seconds. If you connect to a server and suddenly crash to desktop, you now have to wait 170 seconds. I'd be all for this change if it somehow defeated server hopping, but it doesn't. As it currently stands, find a server that's just reset, loot it, leave it, play Flappy Bird or read the forums for a few minutes, rinse and repeat.

It's pointless.

Never had any problems with this. Also places being looted is mainly people logging out of close to these areas and logging back in. I have been playing on early mornings and I have looted most of the military bases with loot. So it depends on the time

*shrugs*

Main point for introduction of timer was not hopping but combat ghosting... so... yeah... doesn't.

The only system that will prevent it, partially, is if Weapons and Ammo don't get transported from server to server.

I'll agree that it prevents ghosting to a point. If you get into a longer standoff, say, ten or more minutes, it's still viable.

Hi.

Of course it doesn't stop Server hopping for loot, it merely slows them down.

I guess the only thing it does is help with ghosters.

Regards.

If you're playing the game 'properly' how is it inconvenient? If you're playing properly you shouldn't need to move from server to server. Plus I've always found more than enough loot everywhere and the server I regularly join is always around the 40/40 mark.

Maybe it's debatable whether it stamps out server hopping altogether but it's got to do something to help deter it.

I haven't seen any hoppers for a while anyway.

But then I don't camp military spawns. That's what's pointless imo.

This, and if you keep getting kicked from servers, guess you should stop playing on shitty servers, I've posted it before, use your head when choosing a server.  If you hit a badmin, report the server and laugh that while you had to wait for however many seconds, you cost them $60 I'd lol like fuck while singing "Karma the alligator" in my head.

Server hopping will be addressed, when the loot respawn and randomization happens spreading the loot around and causing it to have lower respawn rates in high traffic area's.  So server hopping while still occurring it doesn't particularly bother me.

i used to server hop, now I do not...

case and point.

your argument about level of inconvenience doesn't fly.

I play the game properly, although no where near as much as some.

I dont have a problem finding loot.

I may even say that it doesn't affect server hopping at all, only thing it affects is combat logging.

/edit, oh and 50% of the time when I change the server I don't even get any timers.

It's inconvenient for the reasons I mentioned in my OP. Perhaps you'd like to fully read it before commenting.

I have reported many servers. An easier solution would be to remove the kick command altogether, in my opinion. What purpose does it serve, anyway? The only reason it's used is to kick people when they join, and the admin doesn't want them there, which is a reportable offense. What other reason would you have for kicking someone? They killed you? They are swearing?

When did I mention not being able to find loot? I didn't. Read the OP before commenting, please. My point was areas surrounding military bases and airfields are [generally] never looted while the airfields/military bases are, hence the thread. It wasn't created because I can't find loot. It wasn't created because I'm mad people are server hopping. It was created because I don't feel the current implementation of the timer makes a bit of difference to server hoppers.

At least it has somewhat of an impact on ghosters, I guess.

On a side note, I find the server timer a bit frustrating.

Reasons are, is when my P.C. crashes I have to reset my P.C. then when I try to join a server  get the timer.  This happens a lot with my current ATI card.

Also when I join a server without 3D view (I love the scenery) I have to log out and back into one which has it.

Very frustrating having to wait just to play a game

I agree, that's its intention. That means it's not pointless.

I do not believe the timer is a direct response to server hopping, it is a bit more relational to combat logging. I am for any and all threads and questions people have including this post. But, as we all know, the timer does not stop server hoppers, but I have not personally experienced one combat logger since the timer was implemented. Stopping server hoppers can never truly be done, if they want, they will just wait for the timer until it runs out. The one thing that will help is loot respawn. It will be a multitude of little things that will help alleviate the server hopping problem. There is no 1 single fix that will do it.

It's one of those stupid thing's if they remove the kick command as a whole, I believe, cos I believe the worst in people that people are going to abuse the fact admin's can't do anything to them, while I have never been kicked by admins for any reason, the core reason is I stay on servers that I know are properly moderated or because they are representing a company they won't abuse admin privilege.

I know people still server hop, and to me that's a bit funny that they are so dedicated to being lazy they'll still do it, for me server hopping is a bit of a dead issue because while it's still occurring I know that eventually the reward/time ratio is going to be so high it'll be stupid, but people will still do it, because they "need" the "best" weapons. I feel sorry for these people, defining themselves by what weapons they have in a video game, but that still won't stop them.  Once they have gone thru all that trouble, they are likely to go to that coast and start offing new spawns because they are so afraid of losing their precious gun.  Then some person with a SKS or other "shitty" gun will run thru, off them, grab the M4 cos while the hoppers where waiting for to load in they where getting better with their guns.

There is a fair few tales on the forums about "badasses" with M4's who are unloading entire clips solely for the smell of gun powder cos they sure as shit weren't hitting anything.  I believe that a good percentage of these players are the hopper's because they believe the gear makes them good, not their skill with it.

I'm shit with an M4 that's why I don't use one.

120 hours and i have never been kicked.

The only time i have seen the timer is when i join a server and have forget to start TrackIR.  So i have to shut Dayz, start TrackIR & start Dayz again.. is it inconvenient?.. yes, do i mind? hell no.  Its gotta be fing annoying to server hoppers.

Annoying them is enough, even if it doesn't stop them!

Oh no, I have to wait 5 minutes or less!

Also, taking a look in the server browser to see if a server is 'regular' or 'hardcore' will save you from playing properly (first person).

My friend had problems with the game crashing the other day. ended up having to wait 280 seconds every time he logged back in after a crash. got very annoying.and he was crashing within 2 minutes of spawning in so it was very annoying.

It doesn't stop server hopping, especially since the timeout is smaller then the time it takes to run from a looted military site, to an unlooted one.

Nothing will change server hopping tho, and at this moment, with crashes and badmins, it also punishes the innocent with that timeout.

So umm yeah, the timeout against server hopping should be longer then the walk from lets say NWAF to that military site, 10+ min.. But until most of the stability issues are solved, I think that shouldnt be implemented, since it punishes people, that already have been punished with a crash.
