Sawn off Winchester 1895 // Mare's Leg-like

So.

Where do i start?

I think i go for the 15/08-setup:

 

 

 

 

Dchil suggested the Winchester 1895 to DayZ:

The Winchester would fit really good into the DayZ environment.

It can use the same ammo as the Mosin, as far as i know.

(IRL, Mosin uses 7.62x54. But in-game it's 7.62x51)

There were lots of Rifles produced for Russia in the early 1900s, so it could be found "fairly common".

I think the logical problems should be pretty much solved right now ;)

So my idea would be a side-grade to his weapon-suggestion.

So i sat down with a cup of tea and started thinking.

 

 

 

We are able to saw of the shotgun.

We will be able to saw off the Blaser K95, probably.

(But who would saw off a 3000$ hunting rifle anyway..? ;) )

 

So why not sawing off the Winchester 1895?

 

 

 

 

 

You may ask:

What about the magazine?

"Normal" Winchesters have it like this:

 

 

The 1895 models loads like this:

=> Sawing off would not result in lowering the magazine capacity (which is 5)

 

 

 

Where to carry?

 

 #1 In the backpack like the sawn off Shotgun, taking up 1x4 slots.

Or, because there could be still the stock left over, 1x5 slots.

 

#2 In a bigger Chest- or Leg-holster (Like in the picture or the video),

which is made for the Shotgun, the Blaser or the Winchester

 

 

 

It would be sawn off on the green lines:

(the green sprayed area is the "magazine", where the bullets are in)

 

 

 

 

 

Finished, it could look like this:

 

 

 

 

And what's worth an invention, without naming it?

What could it be called?

Winchleg, Wleg, jumping Shorty...?

Winchester 1895 shouldn't be added to the game at all, it is an outdated rifle chambered for (mostly) outdated cartridges. Would far rather see a Model 94 or 336c when they add a lever action (if they do).

These aren't at all common anymore. Some were shipped to Spain in the '30s and the rest back to the US in the '50s. They were also unpopular, inferior to the Mosin and replaced ASAP.

 

Plus, sawed-off Mosins look even cooler.

 

There are Lever Actions made like this by their factory, however. I would support one of those.

I don't know if you didn't see this - the one he wants added is the 7.62x54r Version, Shipped to Russia during WWI. (Although few were actaully used)

And 7.62x54 is the oldest Cartridge still in military use. 120 years and counting.

Actually the PU wasn't made for the Mosin. What it was made for doesn't spring to mind but it wasn't the Mosin-Nagant 1891/30.

 

EDIT: I think it was SVT40 it was made for but don't quote me on it.

Same with Blaze/Blaser and Python.

Who in Chernarus would buy a 3000$ hunting rifle with 2 shots per reload? Why are the Colt Pythons in Russia in civilian houses?

The guns were there, and this is what counts, IMO ;)

And the Blaser K95 also seems to be inferior to the Mosin but is still in the game.

Sure, why not? Lemme saw off your FNX.

Nah man, sawing off makes the gun shorter overall and increases "spread" (more or less).

Which is better to use in close quarter fights.

My opinion is: Shorter guns in close quarters are easier to handle, point and turn around. Sawn off shotgun is faster to handle (in cqc), than a Tac-50, for example

an example. It doesn't really get the point across i want to make, but:

Shorter weapon = easier and faster to move.

(@ least i think this way ;) )

Word of Arma dictates that bullet damage is calculated purely from Bullet Velocity. Random numbers like this aren't what to look for in the files, 3 and 4 digits are what you should look for.

nah, i don't think it will do -12 HP, when hit.

But maybe the work together with the speed, i thought.

 

 

Nevertheless,, the magnum fires a bigger bullet, which is only 20 m/s slower, and the Ruger shoots a smaller caliber at 380 m/s.

So the Ruger would still do less dmg then the Magnum, maybe?

 

Nevertheless: A bullet, (nearly) what size to the head will kill people, i believe..

at least Hannibal used slingshots like this and killed many Romans (through the helmet)
