How to balance sniper rifles.

Basically i have read tons of comments regarding wanting sniper rifles and the only way i'm sure that this can be balanced and made fun for all players is having to make players find their parts. Such as finding high power springs, recoil stocks and more powerful frames. Finding an AS50 is a load of ass considering it is a 1 hit kill so why should it do that from having to literally do nothing but server hop? 

 

It would also make an interesting crafting feature, much like putting a scope on a mosin, and grip to an M4, you should be able to find weapon boxes containing random parts for weapons meaning you can craft weapons that way... perhaps something like adding springs to existing rifles to make a more powerful mosin, or an m16 from an m4 with the required parts. It's really quite a big feature but wouldn't require loads of work considering that crafting already exists!!

 

 

I just think that finding already over powered weapons is a bit stupid.

Soon they will implement gun quality again. Then you will need at least a gun cleaning kit to make your rifle functional. Even if its worn at long ranges the aim will be off so you need to hunt for a pristine kit. It's only one item but its a start.

Everyone dies practically one hit anyways lmfao. Snipers are so overrated in games and in my honest opinion shouldn't even be in most games.

I support this, partially. I do not think that they should be able to make them any more powerful, just because they are powerful enough at the moment. However, they should be construable by finding different parts. This could lead to a development of a trading system in game.

...stronger spring...airsoft...Mosin...? Building weapons from parts is fine but imo a bit too "endworldish". I'm pretty sure it can be balanced like in Metro where you can still find "normal" weapons but considering the size of Chernarus, hopping and server restarts weapons are spread too dense.

That is silly. Of course they should be in a game. Using a sniper in DayZ, especially at a range, is quite challenging anyway.

A buddy and me experienced that it isn't in DayZ standalone. They just shoot a straight line no matter how far the target is - no bullet drop so far?

I guess, the Craftingidea is okay. It'd be nice, if you'd find just incomplete or damaged weapons in most cases and have to fix them.

 

But you can't really balance weapons.

A magnum kills or "stops" with one shot to the chest. Why? Because it does! If you don't want a weapon, which got a really high stopping power, you are not allowed to implement them. But please, let the weapons stay realistic. It's a big core of this whole game. 

 

The problem of the mod, where on every server where 50 snipers with a AS50 waiting at the nwaf will be fixed with the hive-economy-system. On all official hives, there will be - for example - just two AS50's for all the players. Because it would be rare and should stay rare.

How to balance sniper rifles.

 

Make the scope sighting realistic.  Upon attaching a scope you have to adjust the scope as you would a real one.  Make a range and zero it correctly.

No military uber sniper rifles, only hunting civilian ones.

Make them bloody rare & ammo even rarer.

 

or just remove them entirely! 

 

EDIT: Once physics is in.. making a range from cans & bottles would be fun!

Bullet drop is def. there. Try shooting a target that is far away, without changing the zeroing value

Add proper ballistics and wind. I'd love to see these armchair commandos try to manually adjust for wind that changes midway through their shot. GLHF. You'll never see a single sniper that isn't deadly serious about it.

Ballistics & wind have always been in the arma series.. i assume it is still in Dayz..

Okay, we really didn't notice even on very far distance! That's what was strange to us... But well, if it is there it is just slightly with snipers ;)

Not sure how new springs would make a Mosin "more powerful"? Other than that, finding better parts for your guns is a good idea, and indeed already in place for the M4, so I assume it will be added for most guns. And as far as "sniper rifles" go, finding a high quality hunting rifle and adding a powerful scope to it, would give you one if you really want it. I don't see any reason whatsoever to add extremely specialized military gear like antimateriel rifles to the game at all.

The ballistics might not be final, but they're pretty accurate. The bullet drop is the same for all guns (i.e. the same as if you would just drop the bullet from eye height), but you notice it less with higher muzzle velocities.

Meh they won't need to hop in private hive.. Servers that spawned you in with a full loadout in the mod made me so upset to see.  I betcha they'll be here too at some stage.

Damn you Blizzard for ruining WoW because of all those damn QQ babies that didn't want to quest to level up nor be social to form a party/raid to actually attempt let alone complete a dungeon!

 

now they have random raids where the bosses are dumbed down morons that are a cake walk to beat and hell very soon you will be able to pay to max level. (no joke item mall pay to max your characters level)
