Why are road signs in Russian, but books are in English?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand? If the excuse for the road signs being in Russian is for realism, then why are the books in English? I know some of the books (if not all of them) say printed in USA, but that still doesn't make sense why there were printed in English. I looked it up, and roughly 10% to 15% of the people in Russian even speak English. I would assume Chernarus would have similar statistics, or even lower than Russia, based on Russian influence and proximity to Russia.

If one were to argue, it is just a game (get over it), then why not just make the road signs in English (it's just a game get over it). Little things like this annoy me.

Anyone else annoyed by this?

Because books being in English makes the books accessible to most players and thereby able to provide an enhanced gameplay experience for players, while signs being in Russian makes them unaccessible to most players, thereby making it more difficult for most players to find their way and in that way enhancing the feeling of being stranded in an alien hostile environment. Both things thus enhancing general gameplay.

lol

I hadn't even made that connection.

You have a point, but personally...I'm indifferent to it.

I made myself a small Russian guide book awhile ago...I think it's still around here.

Well the fact is that this country uses Russian as it's language. However books are sold world wide, in many languages. I'd bet that you could pick up just about any book in English all over the world assuming it was popular enough like most of the works in this game. Also there are books in different languages (i think, might just be the titles because if i haven't heard of it, or can;t read the title language i don't bother).

You can actually find one in-game! There's a Russian-English cheat sheet in the book list.

I have encountered books in French, Russian, Chech and German. All kinds of languages could be added, since it is only a matter of choosing the right out-of-copyright databases. They could make all the books Russian if they wanted to. I like the fact that there are non-English books in the game, but, as a non native English speaker I also like that there is mainly English language books in the game, because, whether one likes it or not, it is the lingua franca or today, and having English books means they are more likely to be read, thus more likely to play the role in the game as books as they are supposed to. I am fluent in several languages, and would like nothing better than to have books present in the game in those languages, but I also appreciate English language books or English translations since they are simply more accessible and it helps make books a more viable object in the game. I am a book collector,

I really like books, but the first sessions of this game I played books was dead weight to me, I needed food, weapons and other valuable objects. But as I continue to play this game I have learned the value of rare books, as well as I have learned the lesson of not having to store food. As I have played I have learned which books are rare and I have collected those, as indeed I have done in real life. Perhaps someday books will function as currency. Pristine condition editions of the Art of War of Call of Cthulhu will function as large bills, and when that day comes I can safely say I am loaded. My regular and hardcore characters has respectively 4 and 2 copies of Call of Cthulhu and both have 2 of Art of War.

I found Art of War during my two first play sessions not long after launch, after that I aint ever seen that beautiful book again.. Call of Cthulhu has popped up quite a few times though, I was in fact carrying one on my person when I died on the Exp server tonight..

Why the fuck would I be in some Russian shithole during the zombie apocalypse if I am an American?  Books in english, but signs not in english is just fucking retarded.  Neither of your reasons provide any proof of enhancing gameplay in any way.  The real reason for the books being in english is developer laziness.
