col-psycho 0 Posted February 23, 2014 So I have been playing a bit of dayZ for some time and have come to the conclusion that we need a purpose. We also need to improve relations between people, and I propose a novel way of doing so, as well as some suggestions for giving the game some purpose. The suggestions I propose should be largely up to the server to turn on or off, as to not divert away from DayZ's core gameplay for the purists. Create the option to have random small groups, of up to 4 people. You spawn with these people somewhere on the map randomly, and they are your "squad" (using "group" channel for private chat.) The idea is that when you join a server, you have the option to randomly join a group, or go it alone. The group will be made up of people who have all made the choice to join a random group, and its up to you to all work together or go your separate ways. It is pot luck if you end up in a group with your friends, promoting a situation where strangers with no affiliations are in a position to work with someone else to survive. This could feed into the resource collection system by requiring some tasks to require two people from the same group to do, and the only way to acquire that particular resource, or the fastest way to get large amounts of it. Speaking of the resource system, I hope it evolves to include collection of complex recipes for resources to be harvested, processed, reprocessed, in order to achieve a particular ingredient or resource to manufacturer items. This was found in civil life / civil rpg mods as far back as OFP, and it provided a whole world of options for people to keep themselves busy with on the side, and promoted an environment conducive to co-operation amongst players. Also, would it be possible to implement a "safe zone" system? something simple which can be activated server side to allow a particular town or city to be a forced no-fire zone. (think survivor zone) This would allow players to meet and not be able to kill each other but maybe do some basic trading. What do you think?
mithrawndo 166 Posted February 23, 2014 1) Group Spawns: No. Any matchmaking system is just horribly open to abuse. I set up my new character in your little group and pretend to play with you whilst chatting to my mates on "Another Voice Comm". When you finally find enough to either make it worth robbing you or just to emphasise the hurt, we spring our trap. Rinse and repeat. I get it, I do. It's lonely out here sometimes and it would be nice to be able to find like minded people - but that's actually what the game is, to my mind, all about. That's what makes it so damn hard, and so damn good! 2) I'm all in favour of mechanisms involving repair or resource gathering requiring 2 to 20 people to complete. 3) Sure, why not. The way these recipes are delivered to the client is a topic in itself. 4) Game breaking suggestion, sorry but that's a no from me. If you want a safe zone, make one by policing it yourselves in game!
Nylrem 12 Posted February 23, 2014 If I recall correctly I think Rocket has already said no way to safe zones. And I definately remember back during the mod a few groups/clans that did make safe zones on their servers and trading areas. They would organize it on the forums so that there would be a specific location and time, usually a small city. They would then clear it out, and their members were the only ones allowed to be armed. If someone spawned in and didn't drop their weapons and comply they'd be shot. And yes some sort of group play is fun, but the apocalypse is lonely. You can always try connecting with players when you find them and risk your life, that is to some extent the point of this game, you can play it safe and hide, or risk everything and do the wiggle. blackberrygoo 1416 Posted February 25, 2014 This is why the servers display the teamspeak channel names (if in existance) . Just join up on the teamspeak on a server and you have a ton of fun and possibly make an awkward friend haha.
cj14 189 Posted February 25, 2014 Sounds good to anyone willing to trade...as in every other system implemented, there'll be trolls...for sure, but I'm good with the random squad idea...I'd keep playing on my own though...but the matchmaking system does not affects me one bit :) go for it
hypermoon 75 Posted February 25, 2014 Part of Day z is discernment. If you start allowing people to automatically be in a group, it takes away a whole element of the game.

What do you think? The rest I don't really care for, but a militarized safe zone would be AWESOME. Maybe you can shoot there, but if you do, Military-grade geared NPCs will swarm and attack you. This would give players a place to meet up and trade. The only problem would be getting out. I'm sure bandits would have a field day waiting outside a place like that for people to walk right into their hands.
