I found the ultimate friendly formula

Recommended Posts

Hi survivor, welcome to the ultimate friendly formula. Please join us.

How I discovered it: i am a die hard fan of the mod, and grew up wary of how players would KoS each other with no reason at all, since getting geared up was way too easy. After the SA came out, I experienced a wave of friendly players that would share beans and laughs; that period has almost come to an end. Now friendly players are rare to find and I fear it will become what the mod has, so I ventured to find what caused the KoS mentality and I found the reason: fear.

I've done some successful tests which went like this:

Example 1:

I enter Elektro in a 40/40 player server, known as the deadliest combination ever. Upon searching some buildings I become geared with an sks, a grey hoodie and spring hunter pants when suddenly I hear footsteps on the street. "Hey man, are you friendly?" I scream. "Yeah dude, where are you at?" he replies. We then met up and introduced ourselves, which led to an awesome scavenging adventure together.

You'll see, most players kill because they fear YOU will kill them first and ruin their hard work, so if you state your intentions before-hand and don't wait till the last second you will have an awesome DayZ experience.

Example 2:

I'm at Vybor in a 40 player server. Being the closest town to the NWAF, it is known for high casualties. I was currently fully geared up in green camo, and wearing (for testing purpose) the iconic bandit gas mask, when I spotted 2 players heading towards me. Following my theory, I didn't wait to encounter them face to face in the last second and anticipated by screaming "Hey dudes, I'm friendly" when they were 100mts away. When they ceased to walk and answered back (bandits don't reply), I holstered my weapon and showed up. This resulted in them introducing themselves and having a nice food and ammo exchange.

So if you didn't read all of the above (which I understand, it's a bit too long), summing up:

-Anticipate, don't wait till the last second to announce that you are friendly. Do it before-hand and at a safe distance so players know your intentions

-Wait for a reply, bandits often don't use their mic.

-If they don't holster their weapon, take the iniciative. You are risking yourself, but if you followed the first two rules then I ASSURE you'll be safe.

I have much more stories to back up my theory, but that would result in an endless post. Hope you guys found this useful, keep those friendly attitudes!

most of the players i saw saying "friendly" while having a gun just did that to take the first move and ended up killing me either as geared/bambi

I even tried many times as bambi to run to a player/group , saying friendly and starting talking , and they replied me, talked to me and 30s - 1mn later killed me for no reason

the worse case is in Elektro in 40/40 , people are not there to make friends , they are there to kill as much as they can bambi or not

Fair play if this is what you believe bro but most players barely give you the chance to announce that you're friendly let alone get within 100m of them.

I usually just kill everyone I see, unless they're on my team. Then they get to live :)

DayZ is a very fun game.

My point is announce that you are friendly but keep a safe distance. If you are still insecure, watch how they interact and/or react to your voice.

OP, be advised, that method doesnt always work in a world full of immoral and honorless wimps.

I am not stating it is bullet-proof. I agree most users are a-holes, but they are easy to spot in-game. They react to your voice with their gun ready to shoot and have similar attitudes. They also leave awkward silences between replies. If you keep a safe distance when you announce your intentions, I assure you 90% will react friendly.

Good stuff, generally good rules to go by. Voice contact is the most useful element in terms of finding friendly people. However, many people will befriend you only to kill you soon as you aren't looking.

Either you got the mute bandits who say nothing even if you try to interact with them during a firefight or you got the little squeaky kids yelling profanities at you.

the ultimate formula for enjoying dayz again: forget about survival, forget about zeds and apocalypse, camp hard, kill every bambi, deathmatch only. use every possible advantage the game gives you like 3rdp, every bug, glitch (no cheating ofc...)

because in the end dayz is nothing more than slowmotion (team)deathmatch. if you are honest. no other purpose / task / challenge.

i'm friendly... :)

Thank you :) I've yet to encounter these people. I usually judge survivors by their voice tone, helps a ton. A backstabbing a-hole will mostly keep silent and won't interact much.

I was at the NWAF. We were 4 in the server, and upon looting the jail next to the fire station my spidey senses tell me to check the door; they were right. There was a guy prone, aiming at the door. As I was in a safe distance, I yelled "hey man, i am friendly"... no response. "Dude, if you don't talk i'll just assume you are a bandit". Still nothing. Then he reloaded his M4, and I peeked over the corner and headshotted him. Some people can't be fixed.

The thing is if i'd want a deathmatch i'll go play other games. Since DayZ is popular for the human element, killing everything on sight is missing 70% of the game, IMHO.

Do you have any idea of how many posts there is about this same subjet? And no, you don't put it in a different way under any light.

Please OP use the search tool before posting.

hmmm.  Yesterday I did that exact sort of thing... saw one newer guy being chased by zombie...  I follow to try and help, guy meets friend, they kill zombie.  I yell hi, they turn and aim.  I go prone and say friendly, hi, please lower your gun.  guy lowers gun, zombie hits me from behind and one of them tell me there is a zombie behind me, stand and shoot it turn to kill another and get shot in the back of the head...

Earlier the same day I helped a guy try to save his brother.  It all depends on the person you run into and/or what they need.

DayZ is all about meeting people and surviving together. It is so attractive because it has that human element similar to real life; there are a-holes as well as friendly players. Though I agree that if all survivors were friendly then people would stop playing it, it is important to have a balance between these two classes that I just mentioned. People that just kill because of sport are noobs to me, because that means they don't know how to play the game in any other way. I've met bandits that fulfill the role of... well... bandits. They make you surrender, handcuff you and take what they need. They'll let you go afterwards. The problem is some players kill on sight because f*ck you.

So far aside from the bandits I ran into (posted another thread about that encounter here) every single player I've met has been friendly, including a 2-man fully kitted team in the NWAF.

I just put my weapon away and walked right up and said, "Hey guys, friendly, don't shoot." and they were cool.

You forgot to mention the other main...the only other reason....for the fuck of it, for the lawlz, just cuz.

I can tell you now its not just fear, people are just bored and the game doesn't have anything to offer aside from pvp (same issue with mod).

Lets not forget the simple reason why the corruption has spread so far and fast across SA.

(bandits don't reply)

I would have given you my beans except for this.

Or the person does not have a mic.

Or they just don't need anymore friends.

They are not feeling like risking their gear.

Other then that some really good advice.
