Horde of hundreds zombies spawning

I think this was one of the Load Testings they did...shut down all the loot and spawn Zeds instead and see how many the server could handle.

 

To cope with the current total dynamic entity count of over 10000 we have had to make a great deal of optimizations. If loot is completely removed, we can easily run 4000 zombies in our debug builds.

...and remember, that was written in december, so that means, it's quiet possible that these numbers are much bigger now.

Something I'd like : instead of random zombie respawn, dead player's corpses would automatically transform to zombie after a few minutes. With the gear of the (dead) player of course :-)

Yes, imagine that hundreds of zeds that see and walk through walls, wouldn't that improve gameplay experience ?

Um wow done in development so probably using pretty good hardware in the pc playing it frame rate between 1 and 11 fps.. Dayz the slide show...

 

I want more zeds alot more zeds but they need to find the juice for it first.....

In the new year we will be optimizing the way we handle dynamic objects (such as loot) a great deal more which should give us significant savings - but the change was considered too risky to be done prior to alpha launch. If we had problems, we would have delayed the project further by months.

 

In one sentence: If server performance gets better -> more zombies (and respawning ones), so the aim is: More zombies but no fps drop because of that.

So let them make a new hive. An alternate to Regular and Hardcore. That's where everyone should spawn with a magnum or other handgun, with a lot of ammo. Have nothing in the game except a ton of zombies. :D

Sorry guys, devs already said that those who survived are immune, so there will be no infections or resurrection of players as zeds.

The pathfinding looks the exact same as the zombies in the mod. What's going on there?

The zombies in SA are placeholder (AI and probably models) which I assume to mean "copied from the mod until we get around to rebuilding them from scratch".

 

Hundreds of zombies in a field would be interesting and/or shit scary. It would be quite funny to see someone run past a window closely followed by a horde of a hundred or so zombies. And I imagine that once the numbers are significantly bumped, we'll see a shitload in places like Cherno/Electro which will probably stop those locations being Bambi magnets (because you'd be a nutter to contemplate going there unarmed).

Honestly I don't mind if there are as many zombies as there are in Dead Rising 3.  I think it would make the game more exciting.  Just please fix the glitch where they walk through walls!

 

Also I don't mind if they can see you through walls.  Maybe the zombies' sense of smell or hearing is heightened?

THIS is what the anti-kos crowd ought to be rallying behind. As someone who engages vigorously in kos, seeing that horde would make me rethink my plans.

 

Not change my plans, mind you, but having that horde in the mix would definitely require some strategizing beyond camp and kill.
