Why putting heart attacks in game makes no sense

Recommended Posts

Why would it make sense to go out of our way to have heart attacks as possibilities to our character when there is far more common health needs?

Why add this........ But not the following that are more likely

1. Have to pass a kidney stone

2. Have to pee

3.  Have to shit

4.  Have a migraine

5.  Get scurvy

6. Get a sexually transmitted disease....

7.   Etc.

Seriously.  What the fuck is the reason to put heart attacks in the fucking game?  Its just fucking annoying, random bullshit.

I'll just copy and paste.

Maybe you should learn a little bit more about cardiac arrest. Trauma such as blunt forces to the chest, gunshot wounds, and most importantly extreme blood loss, can all cause cardiac arrest. Its incredibly common in ER rooms, you just don't hear about it the same way you do about someone dropping dead from heart disease.

A circulatory blockage is merely ONE of the ways bloodflow to the heart can be restricted.

Doesn't bother me, also, it's not like everyone should be able to run nonstop a marathon over and over, not rest, bad diet, etc.

So you guys want this?      If you want shit this real, then why play video games at all?   Or why dont our characters have to stop and pee?

Replace heart attack with any of your 7 other options and you'd see a thread just like this for every variation.

"Why putting Getting Scurvy in game makes no sense"

What the fuck is the reason to put getting scurvy in the fucking game?  Its just fucking annoying, random bullshitz!!

Actually scurvey makes quite a bit of sense, if you think about it. I mean if they're going to add heart attacks, why not add a disease related to a lack of vitamin C?

I mean it is incredibly hard to come across fresh fruit, and the scurvey idea makes MORE sense to me actually than this heart attack idea. but that's just my take on it

If it is indeed implemented only as Hells High had stated (cardiac arrest), then I'm all for it. However, I don't think it should necessarily be the "cure" for being able to sprint across the whole map. The fact that they are referring to the feature as "heart attack" (myocardial infarction) does indeed worry me a little.

OP: No matter how it's implemented, you should know damn well that it's not going to be implemented as "random bullshit" in a game like DayZ.

You missed my point....... All of the health ideas are gay.      We dont need more health realism.    The fucking game does not even have decently real physics.   Give us decent physics for zombies before adding anything else for realism.

Please don't use that word.

The point was that this guys one idea of what is more or less important is very subjective.  One man's great idea is another man's "gay" as Rick1633 so eloquently and homophobicly put it.

Heh.

Scurvy, funny but I wouldn't complain about that one, I eat every fresh orange I find lol.

I don't mind the heart attacks, as long as they are done well, the more difficult they make the game the better. You think heart attacks are bad, wait until you see the bitching in the forum if they make the zeds dangerous. The forum will drown in tears.

Regards.

ugh this thread, we have people getting shot all over the place "WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A HEART ATTACK?!"

Yeah we could do with scurvy, would make fruit worth eating, at the moment it's not great on the time to eat/energy ratio

Yeah, so now if you manage to survive a few bullets from an incredible encounter against the odds, you'll die of a heart attack afterwards. No thank you.

It doesn't seem that the heart-attack is meant to be random, it is a complication when you drop for something else (starvation, shot, axing). Just a complication that must be dealt with when a character completely drops. I expect that you won't notice much as normally you'd just be dead, but this gives a chance to bring you back if you have the complicated medical equipment necessary.

As for priority, in alpha priority isn't game-play, it is determined by code architecture. You have to build these fundamentals into the health system to build on top of that. If you put all the game play stuff in first, then you have to do a lot of rework to get the fundamental mechanics you want.

A while back, I suggested that you should add diseases like Scurvy. It'd make fresh fruit more useful. I would love to see that feature, really.

I didn't even really bother trying to understand what he was sayin lol. It didn't make much sense to me. I just kinda went on my own "slightly related" tangent to work towards a logical discussion.

Based on the interview posted in another thread, this is meant to only happen when you are down, not if you are walking around after a fight. Considering the recent changes to where you take less damage, it will likely just equalize back to a death you are familiar with, just with more complications to patch you up afterwards.

Someone said they're character died from a heart attack just looting buildings. No combat, no eating anything bad. I'm going to use Epinephrine on my character if he ever suffers a heart attack. Just to spite it.

Though it *may* have just been server messages considering those white messages he saw (that have only been seen on that server) were indeed supposed to be red.

Here is what I don't get. Why are there two sides to this argument? It seems like this has happened to a couple people so far and everyone on the board is either defending it with their life or trying their damnedest to kill it.

People are saying "it won't work like that" or "why does it work like this?" when neither side has cited any sources on how it works. This is all speculation from both sides and until someone comes up with the evidence that shows how it works or how to fix it...or just any information about it, I am going to stay on the fence. For that matter, nobody should be speaking from a position of authority.

Discuss all you like, but all this "you're a noob" and "this is stupid" is ridiculous and makes the community look like a bunch of twits.

That's just me.

How about you guys work on fixing the server browser before adding more things to the game? I love having broken interwebz for five minutes after I refresh the server list two or three times. (:

I don't like heart attacks either. It just doesn't seem to make sense. It completely screws over any solo players, as the only way to stay alive when you get one is to have someone else use the defiblirator on you. If people want to claim realism, we are talking about a game where you treat multiple gunshot wounds simply by bandaging and then regenerating for a hour or so. What is realistic about that? How about organs that get damaged? If that were to happen the only way to survive would be through surgery, which would be impossible in the world of DayZ. There are some things you simply don't put in to keep the game playable, this is one of them.

They should have called it cardiac arrest (as a result of trauma or blood loss) instead of heart attack and avoid all this. Because when you say heart attack people imagine a fat guy sipping soda and eating a burger dropping down (after trying to outrun a zombie perhaps). I'm sure that won't happen to your character, even after you've sprinted from Balota to NWAF.

Let's keep in mind that not all devs are native speakers.

I don't like the idea either if in fact it means I can no longer take shots and survive or run the map to get from one side to the other... I mean (ok I get it you want to test it first) but if they had vehicles the map run wouldn't be an issue find a gas can and a car put gas in car repair if needed and drive but that's not an option and it takes what about 40 minutes of running to get from one side to the other... now I might die because of it and then end up on the shore with no way to run back to my corpse because i will die of a heart attack trying to get back to it...

I'm a solo player and I totally agree with you on that point. +1000

I'd rather to have more interactions with the environment before heart attacks are implemented. I mean, my last fresh spawn died of starving in the middle of a field after near a cute rabbit. In the previously town there was also several kitchen gardens with nice pumpkins... In real world I'd have eaten the pumpinks, hunted the rabbit or found something to eat in the field (at least some roots).
