A broken leg will never heal properly in real life without at least setting it.

This is why we need suicide

I am all for suicide but only if you have a tool to do so i.e. gun, knife etc. You shouldn't be able to just click suicide over and over until you spawn near electro, people are already jumping off rooftops to accomplish this, no need to make it even easier for them.

To make this a non bitch post I think this should be looked at seriously.  Legs should heal over time, I still hate the magical bone regenerating morphine.  To be realistic I would have it be something like you have to splint your leg/arm to be able to use it/move (would still be a limp and unable to sprint).  Lets say 5 days would be how long it'd take for your leg to heal without any medical intervention, 2 days with a splint, and 1 day to fully recover with splint and regular morphine/painkiller use for the pain.

What about making a difference between a sprain ankle and a broken leg?

Jumping from two to four meters could result in a sprain ankle, depending on how much you are carrying and what shoes you wear (maybe on what kind of ground you jump). I know, two to four meters sound much, but if you think about it: Who would jump that distance when you could lower yourself from the edge and fall the rest.
To represent this, you could use the sprain ankle thing for those distances if you are kneeling / duck walking and slowly walking while going over the edge. If you are standing up and/or running when going over the edge, normal fall damage occurs.

If you have such a sprain ankle, morphine and/or a splint could be enough to go on normally. But you are forbidden to run (double tap W) til the ankle is healed, see below)

If you break a leg from a more serious thing, like falling from greater heights, getting shot and so on, it should be more of a problem.

Morphine alone wouldn't help. At least you have to use a splint. (Morphine and a splint might let you walk for a short period of time, half a hour maybe) BUT, you should have the option to chop down a bush or tree and obtain sticks. Also, crutches would be nice. Finding some in hospitals or making them out of sticks, rags, duct tape and such things.

If you use a crutch and a splint, you should be able to walk in a normal speed and even run / jog (the normal movement without double tapping W) for a short period. But you are forced to use one-handed items (no axes, rifles, baseball bats and such, just knifes, machetes, pistols, you name it).

If you have obtained a healing status, a broken leg should be cured after a few hours if properly taken care of (namely the splint). 4 to 5 hrs maybe? Yes, I know, it isn't realistic but on the other hand, going from stuffed and energized to starving within a few hours isn't realisticly either.

A sprain ankle could get away after an hour (healing status) or immidiatly if you use morphine or a splint.

Could this be a thing?

On behalf of the entire medical community, I direct you to a place of sanctuary and redemption. Here, you may seek the aid of many professional doctors, combat lifesavers, and all-around medics like myself. They will aid you for no cost, given you listen to them. http://www.reddit.com/r/redditrescueforce

Also, I shall enlighten you!

There are more options than morphine or suicide.

In the current build, sticks and rags can be used to make a splint. This will set the bone, allowing for at least limited mobility. Splints are often used in combat situations, to get an injured unit in fighting condition.

Yep, crutches would be needed.  More widespread simple wooden crutches and less frequent folding crutches.

This is why we need suicide

IIRC, this is in progress...

Who else wants the suicide as seen in DayZ trailer?

Go break your leg irl (don't, I'm just trying to make a point) then see how long it takes to just "heal over time" correctly.

Also, it's almost as if there's a sticky post for people in your situation.. HMMMMMMMMMMMM

Found my first morphine injector, but it's badly damaged... will it still work as intended to fix broken legs?

Yes, at the moment badly damaged morphine is only cosmetic. It won't work if ruined, however.

You used to be able to log out then log back in with healed legs.  That has been fixed but is it really that hard to crawl around for a while until you find morphine or a rooftop to roll off of?

I had faced the broken leg issue for twice in one day. Yes you're right that in reality blah blah blah....
But if you really want to talk about reality, let's do it why not?
For sticks and cloths to make that stuff to heal broken leg, why is that so difficult to find sticks?
We have trees around but we can't make our own sticks? Is this happened in reality?
Saying about cloth, why can we get it from clothes only, how about other clothing materials like pants?

I like the idea about making the game real, but before that, can the solutions to the obstacles be more realistic first?

Like facing thirsty, infected or stuff like that, why don't we have more food or water found in normal house?
I can say that usually we have no spawn from houses next to the coast, is this very real? I wont say so.

In the mod if you had a broken leg you had the option for respawning, it would be nice if they add this option too to the standalone.

Also I think the morphine should work only as a temporary fix, until the morphine effect passes out.

I got caught by the broken leg bug (where if you go in a fire station or walk downstairs, you'll randomly have your legs broken), and thought I was at the end of the road, I didn't have anything to fix my leg with and I was stuck between two sets of stairs, however I used http://www.reddit.com/r/redditrescueforce and filed a request for assistance, 20 mins later I had been rescued, back to full health and could continue my day, would highly recommend and much better than suicide cause you can keep all your stuff and not start back again at ground zero.
