Some ideas for swamps

East of elektro, there is a swamp area. I was thinking it should be expanded:

 

-Make the swamp area larger and place some buildings in it (shanty town in the swamp) because there is no reason to move through it except for your clothes to get wet.

-Increase the negative impact of wading through swamps so players really want to use the wooden catwalks

-Add more swamp ambience (sounds, swamp fog, less visiblity, weeping trees)

When the temperature system is implemented,people will stay 500 meters away from water,you'll see :)

I like the swamp ambience idea though.

-Besides getting your clothes wet it is a generally safe and rather direct way between electro and cherno.

-There is not really a reason to increase a negative impact of wading because once hypothermia is in the game wet clothing will likely be more than enough reason to stick to catwalks.

-I have mixed feelings about this. Sure it would be interesting but its just a small patch of wetlands/marsh not a full blown swamp. If it took up a large chunk of the region so the map had more diverse biomes then I would be on board, but I think the landscape as a whole may be here to stay as is.

what boggles my mind a bit is that the swamps are actually more puddles than anything else. they are ankle-deep at most...

Sure it looks somewhat nice but i feel that there could have been far more to it, same with the Plattenbau settlements

I do agree that Swamps need more love overall.

 

We have coastal swamps but we don't have any swamps inland and alot of the swamps are relatively small. It would be awesome to find some smaller swamps inland as well as one area that would be an exceptionally large swamp area.

 

Swamps would need to be more dangerous, a common danger with swamps is the idea of quicksand or sinkholes. Stray too deep into these puddles of water and you'll gradually sink, if you fail to get out in time you'd take a slow death as you sink into the mud and you drown.

 

But these swamps would need things inside them to make people WANT to go there. it's fine adding boats, both small and partially sunken fishing wrecks but it would be awesome to find other vehicle wrecks which are half submerged under the water, meaning a player might risk wading into the water to reach that precious mosin sitting on the front dash of a partially sunken pickup truck.

 

Alternatively, I had thought about the idea of some Swamps existing in small villages and even a military base. Think of an abandoned military base, nestled in the center of a swamp. The abandoned look I would imagine would be like the base at Kamensk alternatively a small town could have been abandoned even before the outbreak, leading to an abandoned swamp town. It would be risky as most buildings would be flooded (leading to many gaining the soaked status by simply walking through) however certain footwear such as Wellies would solve this.

Somemajor swampage further inland I think would be ideal.. with a lot of very long grass obstructing vision would promote seedy behaviors and fore worn those who enter alone that anything could happen...    ANYTHING...
