Alt+Tab and DayZ

Recommended Posts

So reading through a few guides and stuff it appears a lot of people keep a map open and alt tab between. That kinda ruins the spirit of the game for me, so I won't be doing that, however I do occasionally need to tab out (especially when I'm trying to tweak settings and need to reference stuff). However my game takes forever to alt+tab out and back in and half the time it locks up completely.

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Is a fullscreen windowed mode planned for the future? I found a 'windowed' option in the .cfg file but enabling it makes the game behave very weirdly (all text and inventory etc is super sized) and become unplayable.

Don't use a laptop. I found this to be the case in my old craptop, but upon switching to a (fairly mediocre) Cybertron PC, it was almost no time inbetween tabs. Not 100% sure, but this is all I got.

Ah okay, I'll try that. I didn't even know you could do that I never open the Steam overlay.

It's mostly for when I am tweaking settings and I want to check something first. I was having to log out and log back in just to check stuff so eventually I just stopped bothering. Sometimes it's to look at the wiki for info - like I couldn't figure out how to open a Medkit after I'd picked it up and I had to completely log out to check because alt+tab takes so long. :p

Or find a map and assign number to it

Huh? What do you mean by that?

Most games I can never alt/tab out of without having some problems but Day Z is one that works fine for me.

I just don't care for how sometimes you are looking around with "Alt" and then go to open your inventory "tab".

When you alt tab out DayZ freezes until you return so it takes a second or 5 to come back.

Go to your Steam library and right click DayZ > Properties > click "set launch options" > type in:

-noPause

and click ok.

What that does is keep DayZ running while you are alt tabbed.

Here's where I got this info.

If you try using multiple launch options, make sure you add them one at a time, in case one makes things worse instead of help.
