1st kill, Did I make the right call?

Recommended Posts

I don't want to be a bandit KOS kind of person but I did pretty much KOS last night.

Was looking for look in the military base. Everything looked empty, no signs of other players, all the doors closed ect.

When I get to the barracks and open the main door I can hear some wierd sounds. Like if I was getting hit by a zombie, except I wasn't. I walk up to the last door in the barracks and at this point it's pretty damn loud. Thought it could be a player camping in there waiting to shoot me and definietly a zombie in there.

Got my magnum up, flung the door open. There is a guy prone with his rifle pointed at me and a zombie hitting him.

Got scared shitless, quickly emptied my magnum into the guy while I took cover behind the wall.

After reloading I shot the zombie and went inside. I shot him in the head again to make sure he was dead.

But now that I think of it... he didn't even fire a shot at me. I think he may have been passed out from the zombie attack.

Was it a dick move to kill him?

I guess I could have tried to bandage him and make a friend... on the other hand it does seem like he was trying to surprise me in there...

Oh my...you killed another player who looked like a threath?!?

Ahhw, I don't know how you can play this game without feeling guilty now. I'm sorry.

Consider anyone at an airfield or military base to be a threat if they have a weapon, regardless of what situation you find them in.

Or, put it this way; Would you have preferred waiting to see if they were a threat and finding out by hearing a shot ring out and "You are dead" appearing?

Military areas are generally seen as a KOS zone. I maybe would have backed away and tried to talk, but I don't think you should feel guilty for killing the player, especially considering the pressured situation you were in.

You did the right thing. From my experience, everyone in this game is an A-hole who will shoot you without hesitation.

here are some conditions/rules i go with, the hero way

-never killed spawnlings

-say hi to unarmed survivors

-shoot with a pistol since taking a pistol is faster.... if you see a survivor trying to take out a weapon.

-if a survivor run/flees as soon as he sees you, dont chase

here are for survivors

-find food and drinks

-kill zombies avoid players

Here are for the bandits

-shoot without any reason

- cripple the spawnlings for fun

-shoot as soon as you see a survivor from far away

-chase down the survivor if he attempts to run

-make an unarmed person bleed to dead

Right call. If I opened a door and there's someone laying on the floor pointing a rifle at me, I have to assume that he's camping and I'd have to drop him. I would probably have called out first though, to see if I got a response. If not, then yes, I would have shot him too.

Without needing to read more than the title, if you're alive then it was the right call.

My guess is he was afk the whole time or he was in the last stages of logging out when you and the zombie crept up, essentially combat logging.

There is being the hero, and then there is getting your first kill.

Even a good guy noob subliminally wants to kill another player, just to feel that you can handle your own. I speak from experience.

I never KOS, but in the mod I followed a bandit as a noob, and when he was looting a corpse, I took him out. Bullets in his unsuspecting back. at that moment I felt a huge release, even as a good guy player I needed to get a kill under my belt, just to feel that I belonged...

hell, I even remember his name to this day

In SA, you don't get the chance to kill a bandit to get a kill out of your system, so I can understand the guilt a little bit more. I haven't killed anyone yet in SA, because I never meet anyone, due to hanging around the north. When I do get the chance though, Im looking forward to the rush, cos no gaming experience beats it! He will need to shoot at me first though, & that's why I think SA needs hero/bandit skins.

I felt guilty about my first (and only) kill, mostly because it was unwarranted and a reaction out of a brief power trip.  Poor guy had no idea I was even there.  But I got over it.  I DID feel justified about shooting at my second target, since he was looking in my direction with a Mosin.  I wound up just scaring the pants off of him and we worked it out with words after that.

Dude i had some half geared guy come at me with an axe from behind, I turned around just in time to see him trying to chop my head of so i fired a shot from the hip and got him in the leg, now hes crawling around with a medipack out looking at me, so i took a few screenshots and shot him in the head. Moral of the story, if you try and kill someone and don't succeed, don't expect anyone to help you after you get banged up. Did i feel bad, yes, I'm sure i could of helped the guy out and patched him up but you came at me bro and had to be dealt with.

I'm not a bad guy, but if you try and axe me in the head and I shoot you in the leg... I'm taking your medpack and anything else useful you have, firing a few shots in the air and then leaving you for the zombies.

If someone says hi like a real person instead of a maniac, I'll likely help you out with some stuff I have or at least watch your back while you loot some stuff for yourself.

Only had one encounter at the airfield that resulted in both of us walking away unharmed with no shot's fired, and that was because he said "hello" and offered to surrender the area he was in I had already looted so I didn't care and told him I was leaving anyway. I looked over my shoulder repeatedly but never saw him again.  Airfields as a rule are KoS, the only time one might try and talk is if the other person has their weapon shouldered, but if they pull it shoot to kill.

Every time you kill someone without talking to them first or making contact it's kill on sighting IMO, but don't worry about it, I shot everyone who came even close to me when I started up.

Shut up. savor the moment and move on to the next one.

Yeah you did the right thing man. Airfield/Airstrip is a dangerous place. Shoot first and post in a forum later if you have a questions, like what you did just now.

p/s: my K/D for this game is at 2/6.

Can you imagine how hard this game would be if the posters on this forum were as deadly as they make out?

I am sorry folks, but sometimes I have to chuckle when I read post after post saying how sorry anyone would be if they came across them, reading this place I often wonder how I survive for 5 minutes, let alone 5 days!

"you try to hit me with an axe, I will shoot you in the leg for your insolence" made me write this post.

Stop here. Doors closed means either un-looted or it's a trap. So... that's a huge sign of other players. If you move through the PD and find nothing and then a bunch of closed barracks, you're probably going to die entering those barracks.

At all times, if you can, learn to conceal yourself and track an enemy for a moment - it's going to be required if you want to be a good guy. It will be extremely difficult if you're alone. Then again, try not to be alone.

If you see a group, you're best to hide and leave the area in my opinion. Most likely they'll kill you, however there's a small chance they could be friendly. I've been a part of helping a few people at major airbases, and other locations, with Beck's Privateers. So... if you see a huge group, I guess exposing yourself to them has a chance of you hitting a jackpot.

But the moral of that particular block of text is: don't ever fire on a group as a loner if you don't know what you're doing. Or at all, cause it's mean.

As a final note: does anything think that if some weird circumstance everyone stopped killing each other that Rocket would focus on the PvE a little more?

Wise strategies there. As for your final note, only in a perfect world. Sadly, everyone is going to keep killing each other, rather than help one another. Only on very VERY rare occasions, like 5% of the time do we see friendly players/groups.

My first genuine kill was sketchy - I had a very well geared guy, was on the reef ship for gear - fell down a buggy ladder and broke my legs.  I crawled to a spot where I could snipe someone, and then server hopped to a max pop server, caught a geared guy and took him out with my rifle- but destroyed most his gear with the kill - it was also hell getting to him, but I officially now know how to crawl upstairs and all over. I server hopped a few times till I found sticks and was able to fix my legs - lesson learned carry sticks or morphine if you like to climb ladders - and when you kill someone don't expect much gear to be left. Probably should have called out for help - but who is gonna help a well geared person with broken legs - not worth the risk

so, you intentionally got into a spot to kill people, and expected help from someone after you attempted to murder people AND server hopped. i hop i get to kill you someday.
