Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Recommended Posts

Every time I see one I think of Brockeback mountain and pretty much either run for my life or start shooting them. I mean someone wearing one in an apocalypse can only mean one thing...

That hair and beards must be implemented sooner than later ? Can't be useful in the apocalypse without proper mustache and hair

I live in the South. I'm knee deep in conservative bible beating idiocy! People who are not only ignorant, mean, judgmental, and paranoid? But proud of it.

I think on some primal level, in the deep recesses of my subconscious, my brain has made this connection that anyone wearing a cowboy hat is flaunting how proud they are of being an ignorant brute, or they are simply trying to live up to that bravado. Or maybe I've just been watching too much Walking Dead and my brain compares you to Carl's silhouette, deems you useless, and decides you should be removed. Seriously though, I know it isn't the logical conclusion.. I just hate it here. And my need to shoot you? Just a reflection of that hatred.

Wow.

But of course, you're not judgmental at all. Or ignorant. Here's a friendly suggestion - if you're so full of hatred, why not fucking move?  I'm sure some place like New York would welcome you with open arms.

Best Regards,

a useless, mean, paranoid conservative Southerner

Played on US experimental, encountered about 10 encounters with numerous cowboy hats while i was unarmed, they always fired like 40 rounds mostly from sks or mosin, never hit once. I wont KoS, i would held them take their stupid cowboy hat at gun point and throw it away or replace it with burlap sack. In my country it is not socially acceptable to wear them and I hope it will stay that way.

your country sounds like a pile of puke if wearing a hat is socially unacceptable

I like you Matej! Oh, and I love Slovakia too!

Tell you what would be a lovely addition would be the ability to shoot the cowboy hat off the head? Just think of the fun you could have with that!

You should visit, it's lovely and in part quite visually similar to Chernarus. Bratislava is a lovely old town that sits on the Danube with classic old European architecture while the mountains to the North are really scenic.

Visited it, several times. Most recently on my way to the Ozora festival in Hungary.

I highly dont trust folks with masks. Ofc I realise, even the most friendly dude can wear mask, but still.

Have no problem with cowboy hats though.

Stop generalising.

It makes you seem like you have the IQ of a redneck.

If that's aimed at me, then I'm not generalising, it's based on the experiences I have had since the hats have been included into the game. If it's meant for other posters, then carry on..

I'm lovin' my cowboy hat.  Haven't lost it yet, but mostly that's 'cause I avoid trouble.  Well, except for lady trouble, there's no end to that...

"If you wear TTSKO/green clothes you're a KoSer"

"If you wear a mask/gas mask you're a KoSer!"

"If you wear a cowboy hat you're a KoSer!"

Why does wearing something make me a KoSer? What if I just like how it looks?

I am from the EU and it definitley is socially acceptable to wear whatever you want. Maybe your corner of the EU is full of retards, judging people on the way they dress?

Yes, and I am one of those.

There is no gear that brands you as nice or not nice. You dress the way you want. There is no way to be able to preemptively judge people on how they dress in this game - nor in real life.

So not true..

KKK, BPP, SS Brown Shirts, etc, etc...Sure they are all good people.

Of course even the scariest people can be basically be walking angels but they chose to look scary on purpose and for a reason for the most part. Be that fashion or whatever.

Profiling is a survival instinct. Everyone does it. It's fucking impossible not too...

I usually wear TTSKO gear and like the new cowbow hats so been rolling with them as well... very rarely kill on sight.

If someone is going to kos then it really does not matter what you wear. I would recommend a) not running around with a weapon out b) spot them before they spot you.

If I was really in the situations I end up in in dayz I would wear a cowboy hat, they help keep you dry, help keep you from getting sun burn/heatstroke and keep the sun out of your eyes, why the hell wouldn't you wear one?

Long before cowboy hats became a fashion statement they were used for all of those reasons.

I am sorry that you poor delicate Europeans are offended by a functioning hat.

If you were a cowboy hat and a gun in a game, you are an antogonist. You will end up with a bullet in your butt cheeks;)

Nope.

What's more I'm playing UK servers so it's not even the issue that it's socially acceptable to wear them (trust me, in the EU it's definitely not socially acceptable to be seen wearing a cowboy hat!).

You haven't been to Holland or Belgium have you... :D

Since I'm from the North in America I KOS all cowboy hat wearers. The south is an annoying drain on all of us,  and this is how I get my revenge.

Also, the typical cowboy hat you see now is simply a fashion statement. Original "cowboy" hats were a menagerie of anything with a wide-brim they could get their hands on.

Hmm since such generalizations are apparently acceptable:

Completely devoid of tolerance (though they will often try to claim otherwise), common sense, and critical thinking skills, liberal elitist scum are doing their level best to turn our country into a socialist dictatorship..  so I will KOS you, and anyone else who would even think about shooting me over a damn hat.

My cowboy hat. Come and take it!

I'm not a bad man by nature and there's no reason for KOS if you happen to run across me with my cowboy hat on.
