What does server reset every 2 hours mean?

No it means that it will respawn all the loot and stuff,you will have to log off if you are online when it does this but thats it.

No just that it refreshes the server and typically resets the loot spawns.

It means only the server restarts to avoid stability issues and respawn loot. Your character is safe.

Just to clarify what is at play:

 

Presently neither loot nor zombies 'respawn', (as they will when that part of the game is further developed).  This means when the server 'starts', loot and zombies are spawned.  Once these zombies have been killed and loot picked up these areas remain empty until the server is restarted.  This is why most servers are restarting every 4 hours or 2 hours or even hourly.

 

Eventually servers will only restart due to performance or maintenance reasons as loot and zombies will constantly be replenished via a respawn mechanic.

 

Obviously your progress/gear is not connected to any one server but a central database (a hive) therefore server switching, restarts etc does not affect your character.

What MadTommy said, adding that Hardcore and Regular servers are on a separate hive (as well as the experimental servers, both separated between Hardcore and Regular, if you play on them) So, you can have one character on Hardcore and one character on Regular.
