What to expect from the Ruger 10/22

Am I the only one tired of primary weapons? Add a Makarov maybe....

Id like to personally see some of those rare underwater soviet weapons in action if they ever decide to implement mechanics involving diving and scuba suites.

Im sure when beta hits theres going to be a huge wipe across the board and some of the more common weapons will be harder to get.

Also It should be pretty quite. I shoot it without ear plugs, should be heard up to 150-200 yards away and that's it.

Unless you use a suppressor, please use hearing protection. Standard velocity from a 10/22 is ~89dB which is enough to cause some hearing loss over time. It's not painful and it won't make your ears ring but prolonged exposure can cause damage.

As a relative latecomer to this party, I hope you don't mind me asking: Who and where did this voting take place? Just interested in knowing how this went down.

Really not sure Badash.  I just recall reading it was voted in by tge fans.  Probably because people own them, so they wanted the gun they have in real life!

oh i dont doubt they will find a good balance just nostalgic for the old marakov ( pretty much a glorified cap gun hey it had its uses but was hardly a power gun..) So many time struggling early on it was like the holy grail getting that marakov ( felt like it) didnt scare bandits off that pop like noise it made told them straight away they had ya unless you were lucky...

I'm so glad there's gonna be a 10/22, I've had one of those since I was like 6.  :D

But question, will this be more of a "friendly" type of gun? Will you be KOS'd less often? (While it can certainly kill someone easily, I wouldn't think it would be seen as dangerous as a Mosin or M4.)

The 10/22 was voted in but it is a gun without purpose.

It is weak, I would assume rare in Russia (and therefore Chernarus), and short ranged.

I just don't see a purpose other than shooting rabbits.  You would need to empty all 10 rounds into a person to have a sure chance of killing them.

I imagine at some stage, this will become more common than M4s and Mosins / SKSs.

I've seen both screenshots and 3d files of them, and if you look in the change logs there is a "Ruger 10/22 stance" or something like that I one of the most recent updates.

I think what he and I were saying is that in comparison to a .308, 5.56 or 7.62 or some larger caliber, these guns are practically silent.  In no way were we advocating using any gun without eye and ear protection, just saying that you can, in a wide open area (outdoors) shoot with no ear protection and not have damaging affects if done in moderation.

One of the developers posted a link to an online survey a while back: post, with survey link, can be found here. However, it was closed but I would assume that they will continually seek feedback from the community in the future: whether via surveys, informal information gathering (I.e. reading the forums), or feature requests via the FeedbackTracker.

Which is the crazy thing.  Mosin are super common whereas 10/22 would be quite rare and quite weak.  But then again, they stuck M4 in the game instead of AK47.

All of this information is based off of the real gun. This is what we should assume if they are trying to make the gun realistic.

So I've become drastically paranoid lately because of the amount of people getting frustrated that the Ruger wont be a one shot zombie kill, or that it wont be acurate at long ranges.

First off, its not a hunting rifle. YES, I know that it can be used to bust squirrels (which i do quote often as I'm an avid hunter) but it is a plinker, a sporting rifle. So dont expect it to be high powered. Next, it has a standard 10 round rotary mag, so no it is NOT the B95 like many people think. It can take 20, 30, 40, and 50 round mags. I have even seen in stores a 100 round drum mag for it. In real life I can hit a Gatorade bottle with it at 100 yards with a 4x scope. BUT it only penatrates one side of the bottle and the slug is stopped on the other side. So dont expect it to be a good gun for survivor killing, it should act as a zombie defense gun. It should take quite. A few shots to even take out a zombie, remember a .22 is not that powerful.

I also think that this should spawn mostly in barns and residential house, not school, house spirals or military areas. Ammo should follow where the gun spawns.

Just wanted to clarify some stuff with the Ruger, can't wait for it to be in the game and I think it'll be a great addition.

I have very low expectations for the Ruger if it is accurately modelled and not buffed, yes it may be good for close range zed headshots but that'll be about it due to the calibre. it should be absolutely useless against players especially with the damage absorbing clothing + inventory items

No. We know guns work. Since this is the Alpha, I'd really like to see the framework put in place and a few examples of hand thrown weapons i.e. grenades and smoke. Both military (v. rare) and especially improvised.

As I have said many times. The .22LR is the #1 murder caliber in the US.

No other caliber kills more people...Your .50cal can suck my .22LR.

Also .22LR is used in a couple states to hunt deer. Basically a man sized animal....What more do we need in the realm of facts..

Also accuracy from a .22LR is next to shit. My SKS is more accurate for example. Back when I was young .22LR was made to a higher standard and over the years it has dropped drastically. The only accurate and reliable ammo for a .22LR is CCI.

With how inaccurate guns already are in game they could leave it alone in that regard. They should also add in a 1-50 chance of a dud round when using the .22LR.

Also at least in the USA the .22LR is the most sought after round and hence has become so rare in the last year alone that prices on the street are double and there is less than a tenth of the amount of rounds on the market from the year prior.

Lulz, a couple months ago I sold a box of .22LR which cost me $15 for $50....Don't even ask what I sold my extra case off 556 for....

Little tid bit of info on how reliable the 10/22 is. I have well over 15k rounds out of mine. Probably in the 30k's by now...

Ok Ill give you that the 10/22 is not the harbinger of doom, however Im afraid the weapon will be under powered in Day Z. It shouldn't take 5+ shots to drop a survivor. I own the weapon in real life and know how it shoots. It's not an M4 or Mosin by any means but if you were to get shot even once by the 10/22 (Headshot = instant death), you're not going to have a fun time. Depending on where you get hit depends on if you'll still be standing. Lots of things play into that though, especially the type of ammunition used.

I just dont wanna see someone eat my entire mag in their chest and keep prancing on like it didn't happen.

My guess is that the .22 is going to end up like the machete.  Completely broken.

Realistic would be that the 10/22 can kill a rabbit at 100 yards and a human/infected at 50 yards if hit in the brain.

Well AKs are coming to the game soon as well.  It's all a matter of waiting patiently for things.  I agree, I'm stumped as to why they added M4s before Ak47s considering every other gun thus far has been a sort of "typical Russian gun."

Also I don't know how life in Russia is, but I know that in the states far more people have .22 rifles in their house than have Mosin Nagants laying around.

Sounds like you just have a crap gun.  Or you just never clean it.  I have an AR-15 .22 and a bolt action .22.  Both shoot just fine, dead on accurate, and with the AR it fires as fast as you can pull the trigger.  However, I will say that because there's such a small amount of powder in the cartridge, I occasionally get stovepiped on the AR if I shoot it too fast.  But I've never had a problem with accuracy for either of my .22 rifles and only had firing issues with 1 and it's a minor inconvenience.

And yeah .22LR has become pretty rare.  They can be used in handguns and rifles alike so you need to be 21 to buy them (I'm pretty sure federal law) but that's even if you can find them these days.  Luckily I loaded up on a ton of rounds when they used to sell boxes of 500 for like 20$.

Same reason the tactical shirts have the American flag on them.  MURICA!!!

I gotta say while you are right, there are a good lot of mosins in America. The same goes for SKSs. they are extremely common due to having been imported after mass production in virtually every soviet bloc country.

Ok, so this is true. Im a huge gun nut, and i love the .22 for small game. For basically anything up to a medium doe, the .22. it is pretty damn quiet compared to say, my .223, can kill without wasting meat, and is accurate enough to kill in one shot. The first deer i killed was with my slide action .22. I snuck up to within about 10 meters, crouched, and hit the doe broadside. The little thing ran (well, wobbled) for about 70 meters more before dying. I only had the one shot in my gun too. (it was not even 20 meters from my house, in nowhere, michigan) When i was cleaning it, I noticed that it was a perfect hit to the heart, with no extra meat wasted, and a rather large bruise where the bullet went through. God bless .22 lr, haha.

Are you sure .22LR wont penetrate a single gatorade bottle at 100yd?

Dont think so buddy. Maybe you're mistaking it for .22 pistols, these are crap, but .22 rifles are quite deadly, and can be supressed very easily (even without threading)
