Stages of my character

Recommended Posts

When I first started playing Dayz, it was head to toe in green camo, gas mask, M4/Mosin, shitton of ammo, every  item known to man, backpack, vest, cargo pants.

After a month, it was the same, but wolf mask. I wanted to be camo'ed and scare the crap out of the kiddies.

Now, after 190 hours of gameplay, I wear shorts, a orange or yellow jacket, sunglasses, no backpack, vest, army boots and look like I just escaped a looney asylum.

I carry the base essentials:

No water- I can find that in town.

I carry food or use you to take your food (maybe 4 cans on me, if that)

M4 / SKS / Mosin - just 1 weapon. Carrying more than that just benefits my killer more

Ammo - probably 80 to 100 rounds for the M4/SKS. Maybe 50 for the Mosin

No backpack- I can hide better without it and less loot means whoever kills me benefits less

Orange jacket- Dayz is all about fashion

Since bullets usually hit my upper body, I usually put my ammo in my vest, so it will be ruined if I die.

I dont wear a helmet anymore. Personally, I think a helmet is crap and doesnt do anything since I usually died in 1 to 2 rounds when I did wear a helmet. Now I wear a cap or hat with a respirator (respirator looks cool as beans) that matches my outfit. Dayz fashion is #1.

I'm always at healthy. When I drop down, I grab my food/water.

I carry the base essentials knowing I will die soon. I also do it so I dont leave a lot of loot for my killer.

So I play on the edge of dying every day now. I dont get too attached to stuff since I dont carry a lot and/or I opportunistic kill for loot as well. I never get upset when I die because I dont get attached to my stuff/player.

Playing this way is the most fun for me.

I love it when I fresh spawn and I see people without helmets, I know I have a good chance of knocking them out and taking their shit(especially on first person only servers), but on the flipside I don't really wear helmets either, I like the look of no helmet. I've found that I have developed along the same lines as you, wearing bright items just to attract peoples attention and it's more fun to outfit myself with weird stuff now that they are implementing tons of new clothing.

it makes it more fun. more risky but more fun.

as for bambis, im always on the looked out now that ive been punched out like Rocky IV and unconscious to have all my gear stolen. if one gets close, i dont even hesitate to start shooting.

Im like Val Kilmer in Heat when I see bambis:

I do this too, put ammo and mags in my shirt & vest. I expect that a patch will eventually reduce access for gear in the backpack so I'm also just playing with that assumption in mind.

I'm going to try out this play style at some point but I plan to use the improvised courier pack or improvised backpack. It seems like you're making a lot of concessions since you expect to die, but wouldn't it be easier to not wear blaze orange and avoid dying in the first place? Im sure it's exciting having many player encounters in any case.

Actually, the color doesn't come into play much since if I'm hiding, I use a tree/wall/fence (anything but grass...grass goes away to flat ground after about 70ft) so people rarely see me anyways. Plus, I've learned to slow down and not make movement/unnecessary movement while in the city and that cuts down visibility as well. Best way to approach the game is to see them first before they see you.

Btw- if you must use a backpack, you use the hunter backpack. Much smaller so when you are laying flat, it looks like a rock as opposed to an enormous backpack. 5 or 6 less slots, but not a big deal.

Improvised courier bag, red canvas half pants, red striped tshirt, black vest, and a hard hat. Perfect setup for the discerning looney.

I've been reducing my gear greatly as of recently, only keeping what's actually necessary.

Only use one weapon (used to hoard them for no particular reason, it's not like I would use four weapons with a lot of ammunition for each weapon - in a single fire fight.

Never wear a helmet anymore just a beanie or a cowboy hat. I've grown fond of the brown hoodie and the brown hunter trousers so that's what I'm trying to get now.

Keep all my ammunition in my hoodie or my vest (if I have one).

Keep a canteen of water even though I never use it, cause I drink in towns instead.

Keep two cans of beans and one or two cans of sardines + can opener.

Some medical supplies.

A sewing kit, just because I might need it for later.

Going to try and add a gas stove, gas canister and portable gas light, pots and the like just for when it will actually be needed and I want to know what I can keep in my backpack and what I have to get rid of.

I play similarly. The only thing I would add to this is I only play on full servers. I scour every area I figure a fucker might hide to snipe new spawns. The whole reason I play this game now is to kill those who kill the weak.

Sometimes I just enjoy killing any players, taking the best of their gear. And continuing on my killing spree. You basically turn your character into a walking treasure chest. I do this for the exact opposite reasons as you. Whoever kills me deserves all the loot I've accumulated through banditry. Its like making all those pointless previous kills actually worth something.
