Alternatives to the ballistic helmet

The ability to survive a mosin headshot thanks to a helmet (may it be motorbike or ballistic helmet) is entirely overexaggerated. Modern kevlar army helmets aren't designed to help you survive a headshot. Their entire purpose is to protect you against shrapnels. Since we don't have grenades in DayZ they should of course help you in close combat not to get knocked out so quickly but a headshot should be fatal, no matter what you're wearing.

why should any non military helmet stop a bullet?

if you want military grade protection in game, use the military equipment, op what are you actually complaing about here

 

edit, oh yeah people who think balistic helmet doesn't protect you  are wrong. it can save your life , as you dont get headshoted and killed, you get ko'd for a minute or less, assuming you are healthy

Dont dis the motorbike helmet...imo it is better than ballistic.

I have personally being shot in the head while running from a sniper at long range and not been knocked out or killed. Helmet was ruined and vision fuzzy and shaking with pain but I got away to live another day. I was fully healthy when shot and sniper was very far off.

Motorbike also covers the entire face and provides protection from KO. Whereas someone could shoot you square in the chin and you would recieve no protection from ballistic helmet.

I frequently drop ballistic helmets for cowboy hats or Ushankas simply because of the way they look. EVERYBODY is green when they gear up, so I like wearing all black, or a brown an tan cowboy look, etc etc.

You could just wear a blue ballistic helmet. There problem solved from wearing all green..... lol

A ballistic helmet should solely stay as the best helmet... for bullet penetration. A ballistic helm is made specifically to protect your head from bullets, you use this helmet because you expect to get what you need from it protection from bullets and this beauty delivers.

I don't agree with the UN variant being the best. I don't look like a bandit, but I stick out like a sore thumb due to it being bright blue. It's awesome looking though and I would love to get a complete set of military gear and help people, although I think I'll lose it rather quickly.

I do like the boonie hats though. Reason people should wear them? They look cool.

I don't wear them because I try to stay away from military gear. I generally try to go all black with black cargos & black tac. vest. As for head gear I always switch it up.

 

Right now I'm rocking a black ushanka. Before that, black boonie. Before that, black radar. Even when I come across a black ballistic helmet I don't pick it up. Simply because I don't want to look "full military".

 

Yeah I generally stick to the shadows..

 

EDIT: On a side note, maybe ballistic helmets should have a con such as making you turn your head slower? If not I'd just say make them much rarer. I seem to come across at least one every play session, which for me on average is 3-4 hours.
