Alternatives to the ballistic helmet

How does the flight helmet compare to the ballistic helmet? 

 

I think it sucks. Can get insta-ko'd by fists, and gets instantly killed by mosin..

Same. I have a pristine ballistic helmet that I keep on my person but typically wear a green beanie. If I feel threatened or know I'm going into a zed-heavy area my guy puts his helmet on. Otherwise, I try to look as peaceful and friendly as possible despite firearms/weapons.

I guess, that good alternative would be helmet M56 from East Germany, many of them was sold in other countries, some in East Europe, others in countries of third World.

And you can fly higher than a SR-71...if you have enough bullets in your minigun.

I just wear whatever I can find. Normally end up with a hard hat or a motorcycle helmet lol.

Anyone know if the hardhat prevents 1 punch KOs? I would like having that as an alternative to the bike helmet.

 

Anyway, since we are in the process of making suggestions for new types of helmets in the game, and that the bicycle has been announced, then why not a cycling helmet:

None of these suggestions would honestly make a good side-grade to the ballistic helmet.

It's colored in a natural green, which is pretty much all you'd need to blend in. The stuff you stay in isn't of a uniform color and the helm fits most places perfectly.

 

 

Once the gas mask and other gear gets a proper implementation, perhaps it should be mutually exclusive with the ballistic helmet. They do clip after all.

just becuase something is green doesn't make it good camo, nothing in nature is smooth and specular like that helmet, it is easy to spot.  Beanies and radar caps are not easy to spot because of their size and texture.  And yes like someone said ruined ones blend better because they are not single toned.

 

This is my list of dead giveaways:

 

1. bright clothes

2. neon backpacks

3. wearing army gear in a urban environment or near rocks (grey and black works much better there)

4. balistic helmets

I never wear ballistic helmets. Why? Because they are way overrated and I have never seen or heard of anyone surviving because they had one, it just gives you a false sense of security. Also, although the color blends in, the model definitely does not. It is fricking huge and makes you look like a noob to be quiet frank.

nah i don't feel like moving on, not yet, this bone isn't picked clean yet :-P

 

Doesn't matter if it is natural green, the green is not the problem, it's the texture, and i don't mean the bitmap that is loaded as a texture, I mean the texture as in it is smooth, it is not course, so it does not look natural, also it is specular, that means it reflects light, not much but just enough for me to spot someone, it's not totally mat, but it is also not glossy, i would say it is semi glossy, it does not provide good camo, ask anyone who snipes a lot in this game.

I actually got tired of the ballistic helmet and I went on wearing an olive baseball cap. I'm still searching for a cap that has a green camo pattern though. :l

You heard it from me. I've witnessed it first hand. But I'll repeat it this time just for you - I shot a guy in CQC with a mosin SQUARE in the head (it was a careful shot, he did not see me so I am positive where I hit) and he woke up after a few seconds - he had a ballistic helmet.

Fine. I said move on because you're not convincing me - I know what gloss and mat is, I do 3d modeling for a living, and let me tell you that if this is definitely not half way from mat to gloss. Not even close. The amount reflected is minimal.

 

And I do snipe people, a lot. When I'm in a bush, I never get scoped out (I don't play that noobish regular where I can completely hide either). I always get the drop on people, but when I kill them and go to loot them, sometimes things get messy, and that's where I don't want to take ANY chances.

 

Any other time, I was never saw before my first shot. Of course, you have to take into account your background and outfit color (including helm), but like I said, never had a problem, primarily as a sniper.

 

If you think its not adaptive enough, fine, don't wear it. You're not going to convince me though.

Dont forget ww2 helmets come in two different parts.

 

You have the steel lid then a padded inner bakelite/fibreglass equivalent inner helm with padding and straps etc.

 

They're not super  comfy but none too bad either.

Let's bring different varities of helmets and make the ballistic ones more rare to find:

WW2 helmets:(very unconfortable,offers low protection,the shell is plastic and the inside casing is iron,bothe parts are retractable,i have tried them)

WW2 helmets made out of plastic? They're definitely made out of metal.

Source: Got one less than 3m away from my desk. I can't speak of the inner components, as it's lacking those, though. I also had a german one at one point, they're not called stahlhelm because they're made out of plastic, you know?

Right now there would be no practical reason to wear, say, a green radar cap instead of the helmet.

I frequently drop ballistic helmets for cowboy hats or Ushankas simply because of the way they look. EVERYBODY is green when they gear up, so I like wearing all black, or a brown an tan cowboy look, etc etc.

I find going south from the airfields near coast that the sun blares on my screen, giving people heading north an advantage. Perhaps if the cowboy hats and caps dimmed this effect in first person view, as well as sunglasses.

I want to see pilotkas and officer's visor hats as well. They don't offer ballistic protection but they would be appropriate for the region.

Surprise that no one mention the PJ helmet. Considering the M4A1 easily to find in certain town building and airfield so a PJ helmet is a must.
