Game Development Priorities

  1. 1. Do you think the development priorities at the moment are right?

    • I do, combat logging and/or server hopping were major problems and I respect that they are being dealt with.
    • I do (Other reasons)
    • I don't, they should focus on other aspects of the game before dealing with player interaction and player abuse issues
    • I don't (Other reasons)

Answered the first choice but to be honest I dont think server hopping is totally alleviated with the 5mn timer.

Now that they've finally fixed combat logging, I think they should direct their attention to the overall clunkiness of the game's mechanics and physics.

Instead of this they should be, in my opinion, implementing loot respawns (I know this is being worked on, I just figure it should have had a higher priority). This would not only fix the bugs coming along with the constantly restarting servers, but also fix the server hopping for obvious reasons.

It doesn't. I've played the mod for years and people still server hop in the Mod and the Mod has respawning loot. Nice theory but proven false by the Mod.

Combat logging and server hopping are not game breaking features the current fix for them has spawn a load of other issues which now have to be worked on instead of stuff like game/server performance which would lead to being able to increase spawn rates of items and zombies , also pathing issues and the fact zombies can see you through builds etc are more game breakers than whether you your loot of some guy you KoS. I still feel this game is getting developed like an mod and not a multi million dollar selling game .

Actually, they are game breaking features. It's really hard to test a gun when you can never find one because the place is swept clean by server hoppers. It's really hard to get feedback on how the combat system handles when people log out the moment they are bleeding.

They ARE working on zombie pathing. It's one of their priorities but this was probably what happened. They had a meeting to decide what would be worked on in that "Sprint". Zombie pathing is an ongoing thing but Server Hopping was brought up and it was determined it would take one sprint to fix that issue but multiple sprints to resolve one of the numerous issues with zombies. So server hopping was put into that sprint as something to be completed. For all we know some little component of Zombie pathing was ALSO in that sprint but was not put into the patch because it relies on something not in that sprint before it will function. So work was done on Zombies but there is no change seen by end users.

That is why it is rather silly to complain about what is in each patch and what you think SHOULD have been there instead. Zombie pathing is not a single one month task. There are probably multiple systems involved in something that complex and over the next few months they will be constantly working on them but we on this side will not see any of these changes until it all comes together.

Day .... ( Z )   without the Z its just ... another day

since the MOD What happened to the ZOMBIES - the BAD mean ZOMBIES...

They walked around, they chased you 5 at a time, they heard you talk, they climbed stairs... so many could come in 1 building that you couldn't get out over the BODIES,  and they kept coming.. NWAF was TOUGH with NO other players on the server, they TRAP you they break your legs an' then 6 of them they EAT you, dude!

Devs had to put a LIMIT in the MOD so that not more than 40 ZOMBIES would come for your ass if you were ALONE in an area

so where are those ZOMBIES, did they all COMBAT LOG????

I do!

They've handled combat logging superbly. I suppose server hopping is still a work in progress, but better than before.
They are working on server preformance and engine stability, zombie pathing, that sort of thing---Stuff that will lead to a more numerous and menacing Zed threat, which I personally can't wait for!

And in the mean time we get a steady trickle of more shootaz and clothes and go hunting each other in!

i am convinced that the reason it was implemented at this stage was not because it was on the development manifest for now. it was added to respond to the extreme dissatisfaction of the community with the undesired behaviour of a number of players. one of the advantages of agile development is being able to react to challenges on short notice. so despite the fact that most of the gameplay isnt even implemented, and despite the fact that the undesired behaviour of logging and ghosting had no detrimental effect on testing in general, a significant and vocal part of the community chose to focus on this issue.

while irrelevant to the game at this stage, it was given a "fix" to accomodate the community.

was it right to give in to the demands of the community and commit ressources to fix it at this stage? thats up for debate.

but did it negatively impact the development, did it withdraw a significant amount of resources from the core roadmap? i doubt it.

it was added because it could be added, at a affordable resource cost of man-hours.

it is quite amazing how people with no insight into the project jump to assumptions and want to tell others how to set priorities.

i would assume your experience as project manager is quite extensive, as you can extrapolate such knowledge from publicly available information? or rather none at all, and it is all based on the infamous 'gut feeling'?
