They just need to change how the servers work. 

 

Hardcore = no PP or gamma adjustments available

Normal = PP = low gamma = no adjustments

Easy mode = PP off Gamma = cranked( for pussies only)

 

I guess I could agree with the gamma. But seriously. Can't see shit! I'm sorry that it's not "realistic" but there is a fine line between good Gameplay and realism.

 

 

As for PP.. I can't run the game with the PP up! Also why is this even a problem. If that does indeed mean Post Processing effects, Not everyone likes crazy motion blur and hella bloom. NOT everyone can run it. 

 

Your solution isn't a good one sir, I'm sorry. And no I will not pay for upgrades. Even if I would, I am limited as I am on a gaming laptop.

i really hope they add options to servers to force those settings...

if you dont want pp play on a servers that allows turning it off and dont ruin the game for the others who like the more realistic influences of being badly hurt. same goes for gamma hacks...

 

i dont have a expensive gaming pc and pp low vs off is almost no difference ins fps..

While I would personally consider the gamma thing an exploit I'm not gonna whine about it or get on people for doing it. As long as the option is there, SOMEONE is going to use it, and that just leaves you at a disadvantage if you don't. The sooner they introduce a lock on it, or at least allow servers to lock it on an individual basis the better. Yeah I get that it's pitch black at night, but that's why the game has torches etc. in it. Variable gamma/brightness etc. is an option in most games because it means you don't have to mess around with your monitors settings to play at decent brightness levels, and wasn't really meant to be used in this way. But, it is, and there isn't much point in fussing over it for the time being!

Turning night into day by turning up gamma in video settings is clearly a game exploit.  Claiming anything else is clearly stupidity or ignorance.  Complaining about it is fruitless, complaining about people complaining about it is even more pointless.

 

Presently there are no populated night servers anyway.  They are just loot farm servers right now.

 

Hopefully this will be addressed in due course.  Up-vote it in the bug tracker and wait for a fix.

Ok much as i hate to i am going to weigh into this discussion/arguement....

 

First what is an exploit in relation to gaming, its defined as the use of any game mechanic in a method that was not intended by the developers....

 

Ok lets start with gamma brightness what is its intended use well quite simply due to such a wide array of hardawre used in pc gaming there is quite a difference in how something is seen on screen by the player. EG some people have very dark screens due to over use of brightness contrast setting  from the monitor or just old age etc. So these settings are there so you can set this to be suitable for the screen.

 

Now did the developers intend you to use 2 settings for this eg 1 for day 1 for night. Simple answer no they did not if they had INTENDED the night to look like a very grey overcast day why would they have gone to the trouble of making a dark night time, they would have just made night look like that in the first place.

 

Result this is an exploit...

 

PP settings ok again due to the great array of hardware used not all pcs can run the game at a great level to combat this and get there product to the greatest amount of the market they can they add settings that allow a game to run better with lesser graphics ( there a business in the end they wish to make money not much sense marketing a game to the top 10 % of the market your just cutting your throat.)

 

Here is the grey area with PP can your pc run the game sufficently with it on ??? if it can then you are again using a game mechanic in an UN INTENDED fashion . why would they have bothered to add blurr for ill health effects if they intended us to bypass them ????

 

Answer its an exploit if your using it for any other reason than getting sufficient performance to even play the game..

 

What most peoples arguement in this forum seems to be based on a completely different arguement and that is they all use it why should i be disadvantaged??? this is a far more complex social question that only you can answer for yourself.

 

Make no mistake when they do it they are exploiting!! when you do it to combat them doing it your exploiting to .....

 

Could they have implemented both game mechanics  better than they currently do then in theory yes but they havent, but the answer is the same are you using the game and its mechanics as intended or are you bypassing what they tried to give you for your own competitive edge????

 

Exploiting is different from cheating but both are unliked but its your choice if you wish to exploit under the current system...

Turn off post-processing and crank your gamma until they're properly implemented. In the meantime, stop complaining how bad everyone is for not playing "properly". If it was the "proper" way to play, you wouldn't be able to edit either of these options.

 

Well, was the Server hoppers, ghosters and combat loggers playing properly? The Devs obviously didn't think so.

 

Imo, Gamma cranking and turning off PP is the same thing. So is turning off the clouds. What the actual fuck. Everyone can use it, but its not intended to be exploited like this. Come on MAN...why should you be able to turn the night into a "glowing" grey blur? If it really was an intended feature, why even bother with day\night cycle? Or why bother with lightsources.

 

They had to implement these things for those people who doesn't have the required hardware. When they optimize the game, I expect them to come up with a solution to this problem.

 

Edit: That being said though. I do understand why people do it, like I understand why people used to combat log. I don't like it, and I sure as hell wouldn't do it myself. But I do understand why people do it. My point is; STOP fooling and justify yourself for using this. It IS NOT an INTENDED feature. It IS a kind of exploit! And it will probably be dealt with in time.

Unfortunately it is a game client setting and not server based so they would have to remove it from the graphics options.
