Admiral_69 78 Posted February 10, 2014 Maybe you folks could clear something up for me.Why do firestations have handguns and ammunition in them? What type of fires would require firefighters to be armed?Or do you think the distribution of loot is more of a "people made a stand here and lost"? (E.g. Made a stand in the firestation tower, after strangly removing their combat boots and TTkSO pants)Thanks!
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted February 10, 2014 I tend to think of loot as mostly being what survivors left behind, not what was left before Z-day. Like you said, I imagine soldiers and such rallied at fire houses, and they might have taken off their pants to eat or wash, or have had surplus lying around as supplies. :P

Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Its like the 90's movie Tank Girl where water is scarce and people battle over it on a daily basis. People figured there was water at the firestations and got into heated firefights over it leaving the fallens weapons behind....... It would be more realistic if they had "Police Stations" or "Gun / Sporting Good Stores" or "National Guard Armories" as places to find guns in Cherno, Electro, etc. They also need to put some of those locations in the North and East Coast. Most of the smaller towns up there have nothing in the way of Police / Fire protection. Did the whole area just "hope" that a fire truck from Cherno could get up to Novi / Stary in time to put out a fire? Was the whole top of the map a police free lawless zone?
deus_drone 98 Posted February 10, 2014 There is a simple Answer, this is Russia, they use bullets to put out fires. Don't see any fire engines do you..... proved my point.

People who tried to survive zombie apocalypse in its first hours went to firestation there, carrying those guns with them. They died, got eaten by zombies or their body were cleared by army. Some of the guns were left behind in firestation that way. Similar story for guns in school and office building.
ep_metheus 75 Posted February 10, 2014 Why do firestations have handguns and ammunition in them? The firemen armed themselves as they probably didn't know it only takes 1 hit with a firefighter axe to kill a zed.

Deathlove 2286 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) along with trying to put fires out with gun bullets they also tried putting fires out with explosives to. .........this ended up not so well for the fire fighters in the end. Did the whole area just "hope" that a fire truck from Cherno could get up to Novi / Stary in time to put out a fire? Was the whole top of the map a police free lawless zone?Well, to compare Day Z to real life, even the biggest city in Chernarus, Cherno, is extremely small compared to even a relatively small city where I am from. New Bedford is only the 6th largest city in the State of Massachusetts (with 90,000 people), and it would take about 3 hours to walk the length and breadth of the city. Compared to that, Cherno is very small, minuscule even. There are rural towns in my state that have larger urbanized areas than Electro.Plus, it only takes me about an hour/ hour and a half to jog from the south coast of the map to the north border. It would only take a few minutes to drive that distance. Granted, the rural town next to New Bedford, Dartmouth, has about 3-4 different firestations, so I don't understand why there is only 3 or 4 across the entire map. Most firestations have a rifle or two with a mid-range scope, to shoot gas canisters in case of industrial fires.

I invite you to research your questions about security and infrastructure in countries which were formerly part of the Soviet bloc. I think you'll be very surprised. Jack Dant 158 Posted February 10, 2014 If you think about it, the loot in firestations fits police stations better (handguns, holsters, handcuffs). Since there are no police stations in Chernarus, except for the new town, we can assume the same building houses both.
