The Map is smaller when compared to Day Z Mod's Chernarus

Recommended Posts

Its a lot smaller. You can literally see Misty Hill from Berezino. Thats ridiculous. And don't give me draw distance crap. The Earth is round.

It's not smaller it's bigger.

Myth=busted.

Although it does still feel smaller even though it's not. I don't even care for vehicles at this point, if it feels this small.

Man, you gotta LOVE General Discussion. 5 Threads with "the map is too big", 10 threads with "Gif us vehikles or refund" and still people also whining about the opposite. And that's the same with every topic. And that's why devs should never ever bother reading these threads here. In fact, nobody should read it, it may not be good for your sanity.

So we conclude: Map is bigger but you run faster. This leaves us with only one point:

The amount of Penis related jokes I had to prevent myself from making, when I read "It's not smaller it's bigger." or "Although it does still feel smaller even though it's not" or something like this is just too damn high.

You have to resist the temptation! Don't fall into the dark humorous side!

My sanity and brain cells are dying each time I have to curious-ness to go into these type of threads....

Correct me if I'm wrong please but I think they will actually add lots more buildings and infrastructure to the northern map areas. If you have been up there you will notice what looks like development areas ready for a town or buildings to go in. I don't know how close to the beta release before it gets added.

At 6 feet tall you can see 3 miles to the horizon. Chernarus is a mere 5 and a half miles across. Clearly not ridiculous...

BY TEH POWA OF SCIENCE!!!

Anyway, map just FEELS smaller due to sprinting without any sort of stamina system to make you stop.

Running from Balota to NWAF:

-- Mod: FOREVER.

-- SA: 16 minutes.  (and thats not even running with fists up!)

Yes, I have actually timed it...

Also assuming misty hill would be at sea level which the "hill" in the name does not suggest.

Its all due to two missing features. Stamina and that insanely high amonth of ressources sprinting drained in the mod. It just feels freaking bad if you overlook a place and see roadrunner-bambies vanishing in the distance :D Normal travelspeed has to be jogging or even walking again. That will make the map feel much bigger, will add a need for vehicles and makes it all in all more authentic. At the moment you cannot only travel more distance/time with sprinting. I think you can also travel more distance/1000 water, which has to be changed. Later on walking needs to be the most efficient way of travel, while jogging, running and sprinting need to drain expotentially more ressources.

So you can decide to jog through the land, because you dont want to waste too much time by walking, but at the same time dont have that much ressources to support running over bigger distances.

I agree but i think jogging should probably be the most efficient followed by walking (very efficient but too slow) and finally sprinting should use up hydration twice as fast as jogging and more energy from food.

Hm... you know, lately I've noticed that just thinking about reading the forums causes me slight anxiety. You might be on to something here!

Also, the map feels close to similar for me. I think the biggest difference is the run speed, and even then it doesn't seem that bad. If I had ArmA2 still installed, I'd test it out myself... but too much work. Would be interesting to hear someone's findings.

If the sprint speed is faster, i'm alright with that at the moment. We don't have vehicles.

I think 99% of the problem is the bigger view distance.

In the MOD you couldnt see Cherno from Balota because of the 1k view range on most servers.

In SA its 3k, so instead of your mind filling in the blank scenery with an imagined long distance, you now see it for what it always was....not that far at all.

A good way to show this is load up the A2 editor, set view distance to 10k, then just go for a fly in a heli.....the map feels tiny when you can see the coast from 200m above NWA ;)

How do you time forever?

With death. You will NEVER get to NWAF from Balotta in a straightup sprint in mod. You will fall unconscious and die due to not stopping for food/water/rest/etc.

Thus: Forever.

If i had to guess how long it would take with stops... probably around 40-50 mins. Think I will give that a go when servers go down for next patch on SA (whenever that is...)

In the MOD electro to devils castle is a 28 min none stop run. You can get there with nothing atall but you wont be in great shape when ya do. 2 soda and 2 food gets ya there with 100% health....

Used to camp there in mod for a while...done that run a few times lol :)

Hello there

The earth is round but is the game engine's "world"?

Regardless, the map is bigger.

It is.

Honestly.

No proof provided... none, nada, zip... in two threads on the subject. Just assumptions and speculation.... FYI your playing a video game... not actually roaming the Earth, so I doubt they accounted for the curvature when they designed the map... why waste the time?
