SKS discussion / performance / damage

Recommended Posts

I see a few SKS discussions floating about, but none are really giving any good information, or at least people are leaving one setence answers that then conflict with other answers a few posts below it.

Can we have a discussion about the SKS in terms of how it performs? I managed to find one and would like to continue using it, but I also don't want to handicap myself in a firefight with all these M4 and LR Mosin snipers.

First off, what's the deal with the damage? I was reading that it's a 1 shot kill, but my friend swears he had to put 6 rounds center mass before an enemy went down. Was it lag? (Sometimes I have to shoot someone in the head 3 times with the Mosin, but they actually died on the first shot but he was lagging and it took a moment for the server to register what happened)

Is it possibly like the shotgun loader glitch where if you use a stripper clip you do less damage?

The SKS is basically a Mosin, but Semi-Auto. It's a decent counterpart to the M4 with more range, the ability to use telescopic scopes (Fairly sure), and higher stopping power. It's a good gun, but only at medium range. It is outshown by even the Magnum up close.

Patch log shows LR Scope can't be attached.. I own an SKS and have a very similar scope to the PU scope. Because of the design of the receiver cover there are limitations to what can be attached.

My biggest beef is that the bayonet should be standard. The vast majority of these, whether issued or stored in wood crates with cosmoline were manufactured with the retractable bayonet. It has limited utility in the game obviously, but once bayonets work they'll be a perfect substitute for not carrying a standard melee weapon.

It cannot use the long-range scope.

Has anyone confirmed that it will accept the PU scope?

Yeah, I'm rocking the PU scope now. I'm a little concerned about people saying it's so accurate. I scoped a zed at 75 Meters. Had my crosshairs center mass, prone, hold breath, fire.... nothing. Took 4 shots before I him him.

I tested it out on the size of the building, using the PU scope, and my shots were not grouped very well. Not super bad, but not great either. Does the PU scope actually make it worse???

I'm assuming you skimmed so fast you missed the part where I was prone, not out of breath, steadied my aim and fired. So.....

Lol chill out man, learn to take a joke :P

And no, even though I am a millenial, I did in fact read this entire thread. However, I just have to assume

Because all of those things you did I have done also at significant ranges and yielded excellent results :)

Hard to tell when people are joking here, as people generally like to make really snide comments for no real reason.

Either way, I wasn't trying to flip on you, just was assuming you read part of the post and just assumed I was running sideways while shooting from the hip while I was testing the SKS. But I don't really know how else to shoot it most accurately, as prone without having moved for a while and shooting would result in such bad groupings. My SKS, PU Scope, clip and all the bullets are pristine, but while firing I noticed that the bulets, in a 10 shot group, about 6 of them went pretty much dead center, while the 4 were six inches to a foot outside of the center. The first shot went up and to the right, the second was dead center, third dead center, then 4th bottom left and such.

Either way, this worries me because in a firefight, everyone spreads pretty well with the M4, and the Mosin is like a laser.

It can only be zeroed to 300m, so it can't really compete at the long range game like the Mosin.

The SKS is basically a Mosin

Ummmm, no. It's not, at all. That's like saying an AK-47 is basically a mosin. Sounds retarded, right?

I assume he's talking performance wise (if not then I agree with you).

Zeroing is a convenience, not a necessity. You can't still pull it off with practice.

SKS is garbage with no option to add a LR scope(which was a completely dumb decision), it's funny how you can find so many of them in every town up north, nobody wants this gun without the ability to put a LR scope on it.

After murdering 8 people in the electro hospital tonight with it I have to say it's pretty powerful close range weapon

The same way a scope is a convenience.
